About this mod

In this alternate universe, the fire has already faded. No torches are lit. There's no hope, and you must traverse Lordran using your muscle memory of DS1. You only have your player lantern to guide you in almost entirely dark environments. Well, and the skull lantern and cast light spell if you acquire them.

I manually went through each area and adjusted the drawparams to darken everything to where the only illumination you'll commonly see is from bonfires, item drops, player messages, and bloodstains. Your player lantern is slightly improved over the unmodded game, but you'll still need to treat this like a horror game. I also was careful to have the sky visible in some areas and slightly differently colored, inspired by the original look of the area, and sometimes just had a bit of fun with it (Sen's Fortress for instance).

I don't recommend this mod for first playthroughs. It is compatible online, although as we know, there's no actual guarantee against the anti-cheat. But, this mod is just drawparam changes and textures. It makes no changes to item drops or what merchants sell, or any gameplay change at all beyond visual changes.

It is built on top of the texture upgrades I made in my Dark Souls Re-Remastered & DS1 Texture Overhaul mods. They are mostly ported from PTDE and then upscaled. I did this because the player lantern illuminating these textures and new normal maps, just looks so good. It's worth it, I promise.

Installation:
Download DS-R Materials Update mod by Stayd
the files go in your "mtd" folder inside your DSR folder
Then download this mod and copy the files directly into your DSR folder.
Download patch 0.76, copy the map folder to your DSR game folder. Easy peasy.
Overwrite when asked.
Done!

Optional:
If you'd like a slightly improved visual experience, mainly with how the player lantern looks and reacts to the environment,
download the DSR Shader Overhaul mod
put the ModEngine2 folder in your DSR folder
inside that ModEngine2 folder, you'll find the "dsr-lighting" folder
inside that, you need to delete the "param" folder
Done! Now when you want to launch DS1, you simply use the "launchmod_darksoulsremastered.bat" file inside the ModEngine2 folder
