Hey everyone, today I am presenting you the latest update of Dark Souls: Prepare to die again, which is called Of Ash & Dust. This has been a crazy journey and I am so happy to release this update today after working on the mod for almost three years now. Thanks to everyone who helped and supported me over the time.
The mod has been on a long journey over the years, from inception as a Scholar of the First Sin-esque expansion of Dark Souls 1 to a complete rework of the scope of progression and regaining that feeling of the first run through your journey across this gaming classic. Much has now been adapted - from the addition of new spells to upgraded bosses and areas given much more meaning and a sense of cohesion across both the first and second half of the title.
All of that- and now, all with new things to experience... with the long-awaited and carefully developed v9 - Of Ash & Dust
One thing to note is that PTDA is not compatible with ANY other mod which affects gameplay (such as "Rekindled", or "Daughters of Ash")... this is a standalone project and should be treated as such - though generally speaking graphics enhancers will pair just fine.

Hey there. I installed the mod but my Controller isn't responding. Same with mouse and keyboard. I have to hold Enter to be able to move the Mouse. Can you help me?
Hi I have the lordvessel and I depose it upon the altar, but i can't warp to any bonfire. Is it a bug or is it normal? It's not very funny to walk after O&S
You need to rely on Ferrymen which are Skeletons that are by the open stone coffins. There is one in Anor Londo on the balcony opposite where Lautrec's armour is, it brings you to Darkwood Forest outside the Titanite Demon near Andre.
I don't know if anyone is still answering questions, but is there a way to get the covenant items without playing online? I'm guessing so, since it would be difficult to grind for them when I can only play with others using this mod, but still.
Oswald of Carim, the guy at the top of the Undead Church, sells them for 4,000 souls each. So if you want all 30, it'll cost you 120,000 souls per covenant. Path of Dragon no longer requires Dragon Scales so he doesn't sell those. So it's just Sunlight Medals, Eyes of Death and Souvenir of Reprisal are available to be purchased.
I get that this mod is supposed to be harder than vanilla Dark Souls, but did you really have to add a stone guardian in the Moonlight Butterfly arena? You can't get around him, which makes him eventually corner you and cause you to die automatically if you don't kill him fast enough. And if you try to kill him quickly, he'll cast the spell that makes you unable to roll and get hit by not only him, but the butterfly as well. It's not like you can play safe, because if you do he'll end up cornering you. This fight wasn't hard in the original game, but that's no excuse to make it hard by being cheap.
I do like this mod so far, it changes your approach at dealing with the enemies which is a good challenge. The change made to the Taurus Demon fight with the invincible npc added that only he can damage was an interesting one. I think he can't be damaged at least because my character was barely able to do anything to him. I can't really judge this mod that much yet, but I hope most of the fights aren't harder now because of dumb stuff like extra enemies. It worked with the Taurus Demon, but it was unbearable with the Moonlight Butterfly. Please, remove the stone guardian from that fight. That change was frustrating and unessesary. Some things are best left untouched.
he is far enough back that you can stay away from him, which will make the butterfly fight take longer, or just kill him quickly at the start - that witch npc can help, most likely (sometimes she ignores him for the butterfly a bit too much).
Its still better than DoA which has a crystal golem coming right for you right from the start. Anyway, a +5 mace of some kind two-handed will make quick work of any golem in any version of DS1/R.
Hey, I don't know if its something I'm doing but every time I trigger the cutscene to travel to Anor Londo the game just never loads it, it doesn't freeze or crash, the game just stays in the black screen that plays before cutscenes and loading screens, any fixes or other such would be greatly appreciated
I killed two lords(Four Kings and Bed of Chaos) and I must say this mod made me a noob again, I loved erey second of it especially when the bonfires are not in the places that they used to be, it gave me that fear of dying and losing all my progress. Blighttown is scary again and oh is it dangerous, Gaping Dragon is changed too however it is still an easy boss fight, I loved the passive Black Knights in the Lost Izalith. There are so many changes I adored however I still can't help but dislike the addition of the Ferryman and no Warping. Finally I would like to ask a question, who is the second Havel in the Ash Lake, and is it hollow because it failed to kill the last Anchient Dragon?
Hi, thank you for your kind and honest feedback on the mod. The Ferryman system was designed to allow a lot more exploration in early game, but I admit that it should not have replaced the vanilla warping system in total. That was a mistake and I would not do that again today. The second Havel is supposed to be the REAL Havel who went hollow trying to fight the dragon down there, implying that the one in the tower is just a normal havel knight, to keep the legend of Havel alive.
Thank you for the reply, I admit that the Feryyman system is cool but I think it should have been an addition rather than replacement, DS1 already had a terrible warp system so the Ferryman could have helped making the system better. Also the Ferryman in some areas should have been locked to keep the original feeling of getting stuck in an area before the Lord Vessel(Blighttown is the perfect example). The second Havel makes much more sense now and more accurate to the lore, tbh the Havel in the tower felt so random even in my first playtrough of DS1. I read that you stopped developing the mod and I think it is for the best, the mod is fine the way it is now, maybe some minor updates could help the overall quality.
Before i downloaded this mod, i was wondering why... even though this has 27k downloads, yet the endorsements are so little despite that this mod restored the cut content. Now i know why.
The restored cut contents are somewhat neat... i guess, but other than that? it's so frustating. This mods makes so many unecessary changes, you can't even warp to any bonfire after acquiring the lordvessel, and the freyman mechanics is so annoying. That mechanics is good for the first part of the game, but it's just become annoying afterwards.
Exploration is not even worth it, like... the harder part of some location with harder enemies doesn't give you good rewards. Also changing parry to shield bash is too much, modders need to understand that ds1 is very limited in terms of build. We only have 2 slots for everything, so... you need genuinely good items that can be used to "multi-tasking", such as GC shield to parry and at the same time gives you the stamina recovery boost. But because now it's changed to shield bash, i need to parry with smaller shield in the second slot. And yet that is not the only problem, cuz the second slot should be used for better equipment, such as pyromancy flame, catalyst, etc. Ykwim right?
Uninstalled after defeating nito and two of the dlc bosses. Because after defeating manus, it brought me back to firelink, yet i haven't killed kalameet cuz i can't even come back to oolacile.Yes, all of this because the modder removes the bonfire warp.
i'm not hating on you or your mod, but at this time, i'm just really frustated by it.
I am at Sens Fortress and I saw I could summon a ferry man so I did before killing the man serpent and then the man serpent killed my ferry man and after resting and seeing him alive again he wont speak to me and I cant use the ferry
Good evening. I have been itching to replay the game and your mod appears to be just what I need. Tell me please, are there any mods that complement your Dark Souls Remastered version? I want something that can be handled by a 3080 PC, but also entirely lore friendly such as 4K textures. For example, I see people playing yours and Rekindled, but can those go synergize without overwriting/contracting each other nowadays? I want a fully upgraded canon experience!
Heyho, this mod is only compatible with texture mods (but only install them AFTER arriving at Firelink, otherwise it can lead to an infinite loading screen from Asylum to Firelink). Rekindled was at some point a part of this mod, but the latest mod version is much more advanced than rekindled and is a fully standalone experience.
