Description:

Throughout my time playing Dark Souls I've always found backsteps to be quite underwhelming.
You barely get any i-frames, theres a high risk of taking more damage due to 'instability', and if you were to use backsteps as a means of setting us some running attacks, then good luck waiting until the animation finishes and lets you do stuff. Which seems way too long especially on higher equipment loads.

This mod attempts to improve backsteps in a way that makes them viable as both defensive and offensive move.

Changes in Full Version:
  • More i-frames for Light, Medium and Heavy load backsteps (9 i-frames instead of defaut 4). DWGR backflips get a boost from 9 to 11 i-frames to make things in line with normal backsteps.
  • Running attacks and consecutive backsteps/rolls can be done earlier into the animation. Slightly for Light load and significantly for Medium and Heavy.
  • 'Instability' damage window has been nerfed in length. Significantly for Light load and less so for Medium and Heavy.
  • Larger Hyper Armor window for Medium and Heavy loads.
  • The window where you can turn your character after pressing the Roll Button is now larger. Allows for easier maneuverabilty.

I've also made a Lite Version of the mod, which only features changes to i-frames, 'instability', Hyper Armor and rotaion.
Both versions are included in the mod archive.

The exact frame-by-frame changes represtnted in a graphical way can be found in the table 'Animation Metadata Changes.xlsx' included within the mod archive.

Installation:

  • Make a backup of /Dark Souls Remastered/chr/c0000.anibnd.dcx
  • Replace /Dark Souls Remastered/chr/c0000.anibnd.dcx by the c0000.anibnd.dcx provided within desired mod version folder in the archive

Merging:


In case there's another mod that uses c0000.anibnd.dcx, you might merge it with this mod using DSAnimStudio
Animation IDs that need to be adjusted can be found in 'Animation Metadata Changes.xlsx' in the format 'a00_****'.
Alternatively, you can message me, and I'll try to make an optional merged file.

I've included a version merged with my other mod - Gesture Cancel Remastered in the downloads section of this mod.

I've also included a Full version of this mod (with optional GCR) merged with Better Rolling by Hocter.

Merge of all of the above (BR + BB + GCR) together with Charitable Parry by Greensad can be found in the optional files section of the Charitable Parry mod.
