The dinput8.dll is corrupted I think. The size is only 42 kb and it causes my version of DS3 to error before even launching with the error:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click OK to close the application."
This is 100% the DLL listed since I removed it and the game was able to launch. Any suggestions? Any dependencies I'm missing like a version of .NET 3 or some such fun?
normally there is no step 3 and the issue isnt with mod actually. Around late 2022 game was updated and almost all of the mods became incompatible. So if you just revert back to previous version of the game you should be able to play it without any problems
Yep, this is the correct answer from D0maT. There's a good video called "How to downpatch Dark Souls 3 so you can play mods.". Follow the instructions and it will work.
Is it possible to mod the model and sound of one weapon only, let say I just want to mod Lothric Knight straight sword with lightsaber model and sound only?
If you just want the lothric knight straightsword to look like a lightsaber, you can just delete all files in the parts folder except the "wp_a_0206.partsbnd.dcx" file. As for the sounds, DS3 uses the same sound file for all straightsword swings. So the best you could do is change it so only straightswords have the lightsaber sound.
Hey I already have modengine installed with it's own ini and dinput8 file, how should I proceed with installing this mod? I have it linked to another dll called hoodiepatcher and that's further linked to another dinput8 file except that one does not have it's own associated ini file so I can't further direct it to the lightsaber mod's dinput file if that makes any sense. Is it alright if I just direct my original modengine.ini file to chainload to this mod's dll file? Is it safe for me to rename one of the modengine.ini's so they don't replace one another? What if the 2 ini files have differing settings? Sorry I'm a pretty big casul when it comes to modding.
Ok I think from what you've described all you have to do is put the "parts" folder in whatever mod directory you are already using. The dinput8.dll file shouldn't matter if you're already using modengine.
