How to Use 2 separated Folders, for Mods that not working with Mod Manager
Install Dark Souls 3
Install Dark Souls 3 as usual on your preferred hard drive.
Configure the Mod Manager
Open the Mod Manager and navigate to the Steamapps/common folder where Dark Souls 3 is installed.
Select this folder – with the latest update, the Dark Souls 3 folder should be recognized automatically.
Create a Second Dark Souls 3 Folder
Copy the entire Dark Souls 3 folder.
Paste it onto a second hard drive in a second Steam Library (SteamLibrary) under Steamapps/common.
Switch Between Installations
When launching the Mod Manager, you can now switch between the installations by selecting the respective Steamapps/common folder.
I have not yet found a way to make this work with just one hard drive.
Managing Save Files
The exact way save files work in this setup still needs testing.
Note: Yes, you could just use the Mod Manager. For mods like Vanilla Plus, this should work as expected. However, I had overhaul and randomizer mods that were installed differently and placed directly in the installation folder, making them incompatible with the Mod Manager.
Note: I will update this, asap, right after I had time to test it. My second Overhaul Mod just downloading atm.
I've been busy building skills and trying to land a programming gig. I'll see what I'm doing in March. I still think about this tool, and I really want to start working on it again, but I've had 0 time!
Press Refresh, Mod Manager saying "Whoops! Looks like you forgot to set the game's directory. Lemme get that for ya" Opens the Windows search Folder. I head to my directory "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DARK SOULS III"
Now don't matter what folder I select, either DARK SOULS III or Subfolder Game... that happen:
An Error Window appears, "Unhandled exception in application. Click "Next" to ignore the error and continue the application. If you click "Exit", the application will exit immediately."
With the actual error message following: Part of the path "D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\DARKSOULS III\Game\steamapps\common" could not be found.
For a reason I don't understand, the mod manager puts steamapps\common at the end of the path again and because that can't find the path?
Hope you have an Idea what's going wrong. Thanks
Edit:
When I try to select the SteamLibrary folder itself. It's just randomly puts \steamapps\steamapps\common behind it... result in the same issue. When I select the steamapps\common folder... It selects randomly Warhammer Vermintide 2 folder... adds \steamapps\common again at the end... and give the Error that it can't find the right path....
Bro, what the hell?
Edit2: Ok, I have it, only select my D Drive, and it finds the right folder.... well got confused me a lot here, since I only know that programs want me to select the specific folder.
Maybe this helps others, let's see if I get the Mods running ^^
Really sorry about that; I think I might have convoluted the app. I'm done bootcamp next week, so I'll look into that then. Thanks for the comment; it will help people in the meantime!
Hey, since the Mod Manager can not detect the DS3 Folder directly, but only when select the Drive, where DS3 is installed. Is it possible to have 2 DS3 folders? Or maybe a Copy of the DS3/game folder?
Like at the Moment, I have the Archipelago Randomizer for DS3 installed on the Main Folder, and would like to copy and paste said Folder, to install Vanilla Plus on it.
In my next update, I'll have a ME1 dropdown and a ME2 dropdown, both with DS3 in them. First thing I'll do is clean up my codebase to make work less painful, then I'll make things easier to configure. I do know that ME1 makes it easy to run mods in their own folders. Maybe I can help you sort stuff out if you send me a snip of what you're working with?
I no longer have both Folders, I just made a Copy of the \game folder, in the original folder I had Archipelago (Randomizer Stuff) and in the copy I just put Vanilla Plus and Mod Engine inside. But I could not get the Modmanager to detect the copy, instead of the original folder.
Dunno if its even possible, It was just a Try for me. Like i did it on 7 Days to Die I guess the main Problem is, that you cant select a specific folder inside the mod manager, instead you just select the Drive where its installed, and so its always select the folder with my Randomizer Stuff.
Ok cool. Gives me something to think about. Whenever I work on the next version, I'll see if there's a way I can improve that. Hopefully something that can reduce my code; that would be neat!
It doesn't work, Dark Souls Mod Manager cannot find the game, it doesn't matter if I select the disk where it is installed, or steamlibrary, or steamapps, or common, or the same Dark Souls 3 folder, an exception always appears. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or I don't know. (It's my first time adding mods to a souls game)
Did you try the folder that Steam is in? A common issue is people renaming their Steam directories, so show me a quick video. If the issue is on your end, I'll be able to help you figure this out. If it's on my end, then I'll quickly find and fix it
Hey guys, just letting you know that I'm pausing work on this for about half a year because I'm in a programming bootcamp which requires my full attention. I'm still leaving it up, of course, so I hope you all enjoy it and get good use out of it! I'll still be available for tech support.
I have a question regarding how to set up the mod list on the interface. In the video, it was not explained how you had the mods you had were able to show up on the left interface. I think this has something to do with the modding directory, but no matter what I select or how I move my mods around I cannot get anything to show up in the left interface.
Do I need to have my mods still zipped or should I have them unpacked?
Do I need to have a modding tool for this to work?
If those two questions above are irrelevant, then a detailed explanation of how to get the mods to show up on the interface will be very helpful!
Hey. Yeah, you need Mod Engine for DS3 and Sekiro, and ME2 for Elden and Armoured. I'll try to make that clearer in my next update.
You need to have your mods extracted, and the app works within your directory that has all your games for mod management. The mod directory is just for quickly booting up modding tools.
I also replied to you on YouTube, telling you to check game dir config.txt to double check where the directory navimagator is taking you. Let me know if this helps!
I made an optional file just in case anyone doesn't use Steam or renamed their Steam dirs to something weird because people wanted that for other games
Hey guys, I uploaded a new version of this which adds Elden Ring and Armoured Core support, tidies things up and fixes a few bugs. I also cleaned up my code a little and made a video that guides you through everything.
This feels like a dumb question, but on the "required mods" popup, should I install both ModEngine *and* Sekiro Mod Engine for use with DS3, or just ModEngine? Also, does this work with DS3 patch 1.15.2?
Put OG Mod Engine in DS3's folder, and put Sekiro Mod Engine in Sekiro's folder. I don't think any question is dumb because modding is awkward to learn. I haven't been keeping up with patches, so if it doesn't work, just downpatch it
Can you give me a step by step on what you did? Images or a video might help. Should work fine if you click on Merge Mods, then tick 2 mods in the window, type a name in the text field, and click "merge mods." Did you try that?
