anyone able to give a run-down on making part of a .dds file invisible? forums are dead and wilted, so i'd only think to ask the modders who are making things invisible. either photoshop, gimp, or paint.net work; i just wanna know what i'm doing wrong
What I did is simply delete the whole texture to make it a blank alpha and exported as dds in gimp. I deleted all the mipmaps also without generating new ones.
I'm not sure if it's possible to make every armor in the game transparent without mesh editing. It might be that only very thin armor meshes (clothing type armors) such as master's attire, grave warden, and parts of corynx armor are somewhat editable to transparency. I might be missing more on there but I tested these.
It might be possible to make thicker armor's transparent without mesh editing if you follow the link and use the conversion IGP11 has installed for textures. I haven't tried it. I did get that white texture error when I was editing grave warden leg's so there might be something to using IGP11 conversion.
Well, everything you said/linked was totally helpful
including the part where I saw that the hat itself would require mesh editing. Sad day I don't know a thing about doing that, and whether or not that'd raise the stakes for a ban if there was a means of modding in edited meshes
I assume to have a shirtless character without getting massive penalty to dmg resistance. Will download and tell you for sure. EDIT: bit late with the test, but yeah, makes the chest invisible, really good.

Hope this helped you.

Thanks for all the help though!
