Well, this was uploaded yesterday and now we have it. A full tutorial of “How to install Seeker of Fire”. Someone made a request for one a while ago, but I didn’t bother making it. Then recently someone then again asked me to make one, so I gave in and spent a few hours compiling a tutorial video as well as a fun trailer to put on to YouTube. Another thing that was bothering me was the fact that some people didn’t install the update patch and claim stuff that was already fixed to be broken. Well, about to permanently pin this to the top, so everyone gets this installed correctly.

And here is the trailer that was also worked on while making the tutorial. Pretty late though.

I collected most of the info in this thread in a reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/s/NEqGhDavlQ

A little bit of a life update in case everyone was wondering why responses have been coming in less and less. Its a bit complicated and life hasn't been well, and my current situation has been a wake up call.

About 5 months back, Fromsoftserve and I had announced a new collaborative mod called Bearer of the Curse mod, where I would work on my own enhanced version of DS2 while Fromsoftserve assisted on dynamic shadow lighting. My enhancements would consist of clutter/filling up the world of DS2, adding in personized modern mechanics, change lighting, and do some minor enemy placements based on original DS2, while also making creative decisions to mix up more placements in the game.

Development had been mostly going well. The mod is currently 80-90% completed with beta testing currently taking place. However the mod has come to a near halt after my father coming down terminally ill. Over the past 2 to 3 months my father has been going in and out of the hospital with episodes of near end stage liver cirrhosis/liver disease. Stated by the doctors that his lifespan could up to weeks or months of unknown life expectancy. Currently I am spending more time tending to his care and needs, which makes it a lot harder to spend my free time working on mods.

That being said if you enjoy my mod, and ever want to consider supporting me, direct donations can be found Here. Even if its just a little bit, it would help me considerably in my current difficult times. I try my best to put out as much content as I can for the game I very love. But again donations are very much appreciated, its not required, its just there if you want to support me.

Thank you very much for your time for reading this message and I hope you all have a pleasant day.

Edit: As of December 19th 2024, my father unfortunately passed away. Seeker of Fire and Bearer of the Curse mod will no longer receive support and will halt all activity from 2025 and onward. I have decided that it's best to move on from modding and pursue something different instead of lingering onto modding. It's been a great 4 years since I released my first mod on the Nexus, and I've been so thankful for all of your kind words and encouragement over the years. I hope that the next generation of DS2 modders will accomplish things far greater than I have and will make the ultimate masterpiece of a mod.

I really want to try this mod, I have tried to install it so many times but there's always some bug, i swear i tried with clean installations
of ds2, i tried the steam version and pirated, none seem to work
properly, i tried in different languages, i followed every tutorial step
by step, but every time i load up seeker of fire and go to majula the
lighting just goes crazy and everything glows white, tried every single
graphic option but nothing, i also tried without the filter folder, or
even with ds2lightingengine but i just can't get it to work, this bug
never happens with the unmodded game, idk what should i do, my friend
always tells me how good this mod is and I'm so sad i just cant seem to
    get it working.

Ok I'm kinda new to Nexusmods and it's my first time commenting, so I'm unsure if this is the appropiate way to do this; but I have to say I LOVE this mod. So much.
I'm already a DS2 apologist and have been for years, It's one of my favorite games, yet this mods fixes EVERY POSSIBLE ISSUE I had with the game. To the point I'd recommend this mod as their first DS2 experience for some people.
I specially love how tastefully the enemies are remixed so the world feels more vast and less videogamey, how you find difficult enemies earlier on as a prelude to how their area will be, and how they connect areas with each other (archdrake warriors and priestess being present in every dragon themed area and having their base of operation at Shulva, where they seem to venerate Sihn; finding Alonne warriors on Earthen Peak; finding ice enemies in the Pharros caves; all of it is genius)
I have to give kudos to how much stronger the bosses are and how better placed the bonfires are; the Rotten actually gave me trouble and killed me like 6 times and I had to STRATEGIZE; the Covetous Demon being in Lost Bastille made it an actually challenging fight because it was so early on and he even landed the attack that ate all of my items; unforgettable.
I would argue Earthen Peak in this mod is just as good as Sen's Fortress and challenging in a similar way.

Now, kudos given, I NEED you guys to fix some small things or make them optional.
I think the extra npcs that don't talk or do nothing and are not interactable don't add anything to the world and would either feel like a bug or distract new players. I think Emeral Herald appearing in more places is cute but you guys either find a way to make her talk to you and level you up or take her away from those places.

And the reason I made this comment: I recently walked from Earthen Peak to Brume Tower (STUNNING work, it not only feels like it connects very naturally but you repurposed one of the most hated areas in the game into a transitional passage from one area to another; you also did this with Frigid Outskirts and it was one of the greatest executions of an idea I'd ever seen); yet I just arrived to Iron Keep from the Alonne quarters, and this is the ONE TELEPORT I DON'T LIKE

What do you MEAN after crossing so many credible doors and credible passages I just get teleported into Iron Keep via a random fountain that's surrounded by enemies?? Not only was I surrounded by enemies in the Alonne quarters when I appeared on the other side a dlc skeleton warrior and a fire witch immediattely lunged at me.

Couldn't the teleporter at least be placed somewhere more thematic or peaceful? Couldn't it have been a door? Am I missing something? Is there another way to get into the Keep that's more natural and I just walked by it?

Anyway, by this point in the game, I honestly believe that if you make some small tweaks this is the definitive way to play DS2, even for newcomers. Keep up the good work guys.

This mod definitely feels like a new game and possibly became my favorite souls mod. The stuff you could do with Ds2 that you didn't think were possible with Ds2's mod support limitations is mind blowing. If any other mod comes out in the future with this kind of change, I'd say this mod was ahead of its time. I would have to disagree with having this mod being the first experience, I would say either play vanilla, or another mod called Bearer of the curse edition which is recommended by the modder and made by themself, I would say that mod tries to fix more things while making it for the modern fanbase.

As for Iron Keep transition, I believe you are supposed to kill Sir Alonne to get to the entrance to the iron keep. Otherwise I think the fountain was added to skip sir Alonne because he is hard.

the fountain being there to skip Alonne makes sense but if that's the case I think it should be way more hidden. Maybe behind a secret wall or something, not sure there's anything like that in Alonne quarters

How to find the souls boost ring? I travelled to shrine of amana through the coffin but all i can find in that area is an upgrade material, a green dressed girl, a shrine and a cosmetic door.

The ring is not inside the building, you can walk around the water, there will be 2 chests, the one on the right contains the ring

Consider this as a review for this mod.

Should rename this mod to Dark Souls 2: DEFINITIVE EDITION, because that's how good it is. This mod does what it says it does and it does it well. This mod truly does bring a fresh yet familiar experience. The world is connected in new and sensible ways. Progression through the world isn't chopped up between vanilla and DLC zones, but the DLCs are connected to the vanilla zones in a way that makes everything come together nicely. Item placement makes more sense and you will find enemy armor sets in chests rather than having to grind for them. You can find the different types of spells naturally and gradually while you play. There are a few new spells that make early game caster builds more viable. Leveling up also feels more natural as you are not inundated with souls. Bosses that are normally easy to beat in the vanilla game have had their attacks sped up, keeping you on your toes and making these bosses actual threats. Enemy placements in some areas make more sense and are more varied than the vanilla game. I haven't even beaten the mod yet and I can without a doubt say that I will NEVER go back to vanilla DS2 again.

Thank you to the mod developers for making this. I can tell by the quality of the mod that you loved this game. Being a fan of the Souls franchise and DS2 being my favorite one, I can give this mod my blessing. This is peak modding right here. Mega kudos to you.

I agree specially on how cool it is that they integrated DLC into the main game; so now instead of feeling like a "flawed game with good dlc areas", it feels like a great game with incredible lategame areas; like the total opposite to DS1 that has incredible early game areas and frustrating, botched and ill conceived late game ones.

I always gave up on both vanilla and SOTFS after the Lost Sinner. I only got through 1/10th of the unmodified game. And that's after 400 hours, lol. After the Lost Sinner, the game felt numb and empty.
But with this mod, I felt involved in the game again!

I can just see the changes and think, "Yeah, this feels so right. Why did Fromsoftware do it all wrong originally?".
The new progression is crazy. I mean, everything makes sense now! For example: "So... Giants? Who's that?" and then 30 minutes later when you get the Ashen Mist Heart, "Oooh, so that's what happened. Yeah, that's really sad. I would never feel sorry for the guys if I found out about the giants thing 50 hours after I started the game."

But The Gutter is bruh. There's no way a new player will ever guess which way to go to fight the Rotten and which way leads to the DLC area. And I AM the new player! If someone will ever return to continue the work on this mod, I'd say that It would be nice to have some additional guidance or more freedom in roaming during the gutter area. Because it feels like you're going circles over and over.
Took me 1,5 hrs to collect all of the items and to defeat all of the phantoms without dying of poisoning... The moment when you get to the most hidden item and get 3 flame butterflies almost turned me hollow IRL...
But most parts of the mod are fire!

I never would have said this before, but now I kinda love DS2 in a way I never loved the other parts. All in all, one of the greatest fanmade retakes ever. If not the best, then certainly one of the best.

Very valid comment but I believe Gutter was changed very little other than some enemy placements, and I think, coming from DS1 Blighttown, this is a very appropiate level of challenge. Like the enemies are way more forgiving and varied, they don't chase you as far, there's way less instances of poison, there's 0 ranged enemies, and the most challenging thing is trying not to misjudge jumps or get lost, which is why torches being lightable to remind you were you have been and the usage of prismstones is for.
