I tested ModEngine and UXM installation methods, turns out they both work correctly on the current (19.08.2023) version of the game. If your game crashes or you don't hear some of the changes that should be introduced by the mod, THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH MY MOD. This is a very simple mod that replaces some sound files, it can't break the whole game. I have extensively tested it and ensured that everything functions properly. Rather, it's likely that something on your end is overwriting the files or otherwise breaking the functionality of the game. I'd be happy to help you, but I can't take responsibility for something that isn't my mod.
Basic troubleshooting:
Make sure you have a functional installation of the game.
Uninstall the game.
Delete the game's main folder. (default: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin)
Reinstall the game.
Launch the game and see if it runs properly.
Install the mod.
Good practices:
Close other applications before launching the game.
Check your computer for viruses and malware.
For UXM installation, use the application linked on the description tab.
For ModEngine installation, use the version included with the mod.
Do NOT use GeDoSaTo or IGP11, these tools are severely outdated.
For Vortex mod manager you need to manually set up the correct folder structure in staging (purge mods, make changes, then deploy).
I installed the mod but also didn't like the new protagonist voice on being hit. Here's the version of frpg2_main.bnd which preserves original protagonist voice, both male and female but keeps other sounds the same as in the mod. Just drop it in the same folder which has your mod installation.
Hi, great mod especially the clang edition, but I have a request, can you please add the clang version without the ui changes, I like the OG ui and don't want the sounds to be changed
the mod is no longer under active development, and the Clang Edition of it was made by a different person. I won't be making any more changes or additions until I can come up with an update substantial enough to be worth the effort.
if you really want those default UI sounds, do the work yourself: - download the main version, No UI, and Clang Edition. - extract the sounds and see which ones are missing in the No UI version (you can use WinMerge to compare folders). - delete these sounds from Clang Edition. - import the remaining sounds into vanilla archives.
Consistent crash to desktop while starting new game (after intro) while using Mod Engine version. It seems to work fine once installed after starting the game. Both UI and non-UI version. Installed on newly purchased game, so no issues with leftovers from other mods. Edit It seems to be related to Mod Engine files you provided, not sound files themselves. Even empty folder is crashing the game. My current theory is that they are not compatible with newest game version, but I don't know where official version is shared.
thank you for reporting this. yes, you are correct — the branch of ModEngine designed for SotFS hasn't been updated to work correctly with the current version of the game, so there may be issues (although I haven't encountered them). no known solution other than to downgrade to the previous patch. and don't wait for ModEngine to be updated — Souls community treats DS2 with derision, so there's not enough demand for modding tools compatibility. this is also why there won't be a Better Sound Effects 2.0 — the software I need to take the mod to the next level is not compatible with SotFS.
Hi! Thank you for this mod. Is there any chance you'd change sorcery sounds to those from DS1/3? Or at least add it as an option. If you're not planning to do this, can you please tell me how can I do that myself (or direct me to some tutorials)?
Wow, okay, this is strange then, because some sounds clearly don't sound like DS2, but sorceries sound unchanged. Must be something wrong with my installation.
Man, I used to love your mod, but now it's giving me a big headache!
Back in 2021, I did my first DS2 sotfs playthrough with Better Sound Effects installed, alongside a bunch of other mods. However, I lost all of my data due to hardware error. Now, I wish to continue my playthrough, so I installed all of the mods I used. However, Better Sound Effects makes my game crash exactly 13 seconds after launch!!! It's the only mod that does this. I've tried unpacking the game with UXM, moving it to another location, launching as admin... The weirdest thing, is that sometimes the game runs flawlessly, and right when I launch it again, it crashes after 13 seconds!
No idea why it happens. Any clue? (by the way, I am using the ModEngine version)
I've tested it and my mod (the ModEngine variant) works fine on the current version of the game. which other mods are you using and how did you install them?
Hey, so after a lot of testing (I use many mods), it turns out some software was modifying DS2's .exe file, which made the game crash if using Better Sound Effects. I disabled this software and found a workaround, so that the .exe stays untouched. So, not a mod issue it seems.
Hi, nice mod! Could you pls tell me where i can find the sound file identification spreadsheet? Or where is the "thump" of great weapon among the .wav files?
Great mod. Having one issue. The interface sound, i.e. when selecting something in the menu, doesn't seem to get replaced no matter what I do. I've unpacked UXM (have to use the backedup ds2.exe cause I get error 1xc0000142 if I don't), I've replaced the original sound files with yours, etc. It was working in the past but now its not working anymore.
it doesn't work because you're using the original (unpatched) executable. if the patched executable doesn't work for you, your only remaining option is ModEngine.
would you be willing/able to chage the sound effect for the lifegems?
i have tinnitus and the default sound is really painful because of the high pitch. but because the game relies so heavily on consumable healing, its hard to avoid using them. Even if its just simply muting the sound entirely that would still be amazing.

I'm not using IGP11 or GeDoSaTo, just Lighting Engine's tex_override folder.
From my experience, it hasn't affected anything yet.
Edit: my bad. thank you for the no UI version

if you're going to release your mod, please credit schizoidpig and me for the creation of this document. figuring out which files do what took a lot of painstaking effort.

I love the the sounds of this mods but I want to play this in online mode. Tried around alot but it seems i can't get the UXM version to work.
Is there any chance we get an update or do you have a solution for this problem?
