About this mod

A mod that replaces the Xbox controller icons with the PS4 controller icons from Dark Souls Remastered.

Permissions and credits
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin doesn't support the DualShock 4 natively. To use one, you need to emulate an Xbox controller. While you can do that with Steam's PlayStation Configuration Support, you can also do it with an application such as DS4Windows. However, regardless of the method you're using, the game will still display Xbox icons. This is where this mod comes in. It replaces the Xbox icons with the PS4 icons from Dark Souls Remastered. I think they look nicer and they match pretty well with the interface of Dark Souls II.

Installation

  • Open the game's directory. The location of this directory depends on how you installed Steam, but it should be something like:
steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin\Game.
  • Make a backup of the "font" folder. For example, copy/paste it in the same directory and rename it to something like "font backup".
Do NOT delete the "font" folder after making the backup. The mod only replaces some of the files that are inside it, not all of them.
  • Download this mod, extract it and copy/paste the "font" folder into the game's directory. Choose to replace all the files.

Version 1: Download this version if you want to use the Left Touchpad button for Gestures/Help and the Right Touchpad button as the Start/Menu button. This is how a PS4 controller works when you play Dark Souls Remastered.

Version 2: Download this version if you want to use the SHARE button for Gestures/Help and the OPTIONS button as the Start/Menu button. This is similar to how you would play on an Xbox controller.

ATTENTION JAPANESE USERS! The Japanese version of the game and the International version are different. The International version doesn't contain the Japanese language files. Be sure to download the Japanese version of this mod!

If you don't know which version of the game you're using. Go in the game's directory and open the "font" folder. If you see a folder named "Japanese", then you have the Japanese version.

Update (2020-11-04): As requested, I uploaded a Japanese version where 'X' and 'O' are swapped like on PlayStation in Japan/Asia. If for some reason you want this but you're playing the International version, you can still download this. Simply delete the "Japanese" folder that's in the mod.

Notes

  • This mod only works with Scholar of the First Sin.
  • This mod replaces the Xbox icons with PS4 icons. So, if you later plan on using an Xbox controller to play Dark Souls II, you won't be seeing Xbox icons. You'll have to uninstall the mod first.
  • If you are using DS4Windows, enable the "Hide DS4 Controller" setting. No longer recommended to do this. Disable it.
  • If you are using DS4Windows, you have to install HidHide as well, otherwise the game will see both your physical input (Your DualShock controller) and your virtual input (Your emulated Xbox controller) and you'll run into issues. Refer to this installation guide.
  • DS4Windows must be launched and your controller must be connected before you launch Steam. Also, you must disable PlayStation Configuration Support and Xbox Configuration Support in Steam's controller settings.

Uninstallation

Delete the "font" folder in the game's directory and replace it with the backup that you made when you installed the mod. Just make sure that the folder is named "font". If for some reason you didn't make a backup, just delete the "font" folder and use Steam to verify the integrity of the game files. It should redownload the missing font folder.

FAQ

Will this mod get me soft-banned if I play online?
No. I'm aware that the anti-cheat in this game is very aggressive and this is why I used this installation method for the mod. The only thing this mod does is replace two image files. It doesn't inject anything into the game, it doesn't modify any code and it doesn't use a third party program in order to work. Therefore, it doesn't trigger the anti-cheat.

Why make two separate versions? Why not make one version with all the buttons?
You're emulating an Xbox controller, but an Xbox controller doesn't have a Touchpad. I can't add buttons, I can only modifiy what is already there.
