Alternate version 2 is now available. It has a darker blue sky with far fewer clouds than the previous 2 versions. Enjoy.

P.S. The background of the screenshots is clearer than normal because i had DOF turned off. Just so you know...

Edit: FYI, The screenshots for "Alternate 2" are mostly on page 2 of the images section. There are 7 in total but 6 of them are on page 2.

WARNING!!! THESE TEXTURES DO NOT WORK WITH THE DX11 VERSION OF THE GAME. THEY WILL NOT WORK UNTIL GEDOSATO IS UPDATED TO BE DX11 COMPATIBLE.

    this is pretty nito.

im curious though, what are those "technical" reasons? is it to do with the removed lighting system?

The lighting system yes, but it's the one that's still in the game, not the removed one. Each "zone" has specific lighting to it. Like for instance with FoFG. The first zone has a nice clear, adequately saturated atmospheric lighting to it. The second "zone" starts at the ladder going up yo where the Heide Knight is sitting. The lighting there begins to get desaturated and slightly darker. The third "zone" starts when you are about to go outside to the areas of the huge statues and Pursuers area. You should have noticed as you are about to go outside through that archway that the sky looks a lot darker than it does when you finally cross over. Then the final "zone" is when you are outside, everything is nice and bright and saturated.

Secondly and more importantly is the scenery. It was very sloppily done. If you look out towards the Drangleic Castle prop you'll see a mountain range, mostly to the left of it. That mountain range was not evenly masked off for transparency. There are two spots on both ends of that range that have hard seams where they should have masked off the image, but for some reason didn't. It made doing the sky around these spots really difficult because if you changed the clouds in any way the incorrectly masked-off portions of the mountain range would immediately show. I tried removing that range altogether but since it was setup to have something there all that showed was a huge black void.

Also, and less of an issue is the area scenery props didn't cover all the gaps where textures were behind them, so you could see the hard edges of the bottoms of textures. There are two places this occurred. When you climb up to the top of the the circular "arena" where the heide knight was and look out towards the coast at that big rock formation. You can see the flat bottom of the texture. They should have covered that area properly with tree props or anything to hide that. The other spot is where you look out across to the trees down at the far end of all the scaffolding, outside and across from the second bonfire. There is a spot where the background scenery textures were improperly hidden. There are a couple other places but it's not worth mentioning.

But yeah, the atmospheric lighting in this game is hands down the worst thing to deal with. It has stopped me in my tracks from working on a couple of the darker areas like Drangleic and Brightstone Cove. I don't know if you've taken a look at my Lost Bastille skybox but that is also a good example. Just look at the stars that aren't directly next to the moon. They are grey, and that's because of the BS lighting they apply to the skies. If i didn't have that to deal with i could make some really nice stuff but i'm handcuffed with this crap. It makes me not want to do skyboxes anymore.

Sorry for the book you just had to read but you asked, lol.

Maybe its just me but just in this area I didnt paid much attention to the Sky.
    So I need before/after images to see the difference. ^^;

All you need to do is look up without the mod installed, lol.

Edit: My wise-ass comment above was brought upon by my profound hate of taking screenshots... Don't take it personally.

How do we install this? I don't see any folder in the game folder named textures.

      Requirements:
      GeDoSaTo

      How to install:

Put the textures in your GeDoSaTo override folder.
Ex. GeDoSaTo/textures/DarkSoulsII/override/ *all textures you want to install

      How to enable texture overide:

Open your GeDoSaTo.ini and change your settings to the ones below.

      # Texture settings

      # Dump game textures loaded using d3dx to textures[gamename]dump[hash].tga
      # if you enable override at the same time, the overridden texture will be dumped
      enableTextureDumping false

      # Override game textures loaded using d3dx with those from
      # textures[gamename]override[hash].(dds|png), if available
      enableTextureOverride true

      # Mark textures with their hash (for texture modders)
      # WARNING: extremely slow if a game loads many textures
      # (if you think a game crashed, it's probably still just loading textures)
      enableTextureMarking false

This is only one of the places you can see what the original skybox looked like, in the infamous TGS gameplay reveal.

We're all doing our best. Cavou's taking on improving all the world textures and i'm trying my hardest to take on armors, sword and skyboxes. So i appreciate the nice words. And not to speak for Cavou but i'm sure he does too.

      So thanks.

Yep, although I don't have as much experience as EvilDeadAsh34, I do what I can as best as I can. And, as much as the TGS gameplay does look great, modded Dark Souls 2 does look better in many cases aside from Aldia' Keep due to the removal of all those objects in the hallway.

no guys, thank you, again you are the only reason i will still play this game when everyone on those fucking full of ignorant people boards on steam will shift to that fucking bloodborn leaving this glorious game to die ( but not fucking me) i'm sticking with this at the very least till witcher 3 drops, and after i finished it i will surely keep playing this for many MANY year from now. so always keep doing your best guys, i will keep supporting you all with evverything i can, becouse you all deserve it! also at the end of the month i'm planning to relese here in collaboration with my new friend Dennis a full, complete with all dlc compatibility mod to overhaul all the in game music files with custom one, i will even provide my person pre made playlist so you all can test. i want to give my contribute to this nexus too!

The Souls series, in my opinion, aren't the kind of games you just move on from to the next in the series and forget about. I just did another playthrough of Demon's Souls two days ago, so I don't think I'll be forgetting about any of the Souls games any time soon. The longevity of the series is why I chose to work on mods for DS2, and EvilDeadAsh34 would probably say something similar, although I can't speak for him either.
I am also hyped for Bloodborne, but it is simply a different game that won't be able to replace any of its predecessors. No one is going to be able to mod Bloodborne, however, but hopefully there won't be as much of a need to fix glaring imperfections.

Yeah, i have made a joke that i think i'll retexture every armor and weapon set in the game eventually. The sad truth is it might be true lol. Kidding aside, i'll be making mods for this for some time i should think. It'll give me plenty of practice for when DS3 comes out.

Yep, and the skills you're learning will give you experience for any potential future work you may do as a game developer on commercial products (unless you actually already work as one), so it really is worth doing.

The video preview is now up!

P.S. I hope guys like it.

Edit: I uploaded another file. It has a slightly softer coastal sky and may be preferable to some. There are now two screenshot images to compare. Version 1 and Alternate. Like i said they aren't drastically different but just enough to where it might matter to some.
