Loving the blue dragon shield. Nicely done and good job preserving the wearing marks. Any chance you can update it so the icon uses the same texture?
EDIT: Another thing, when the (spoiler) Crestfallen Warrior goes Hollow (I suppose if you attack him would be the same) (/spoiler) he has the default Heater shield instead of the retextured one.
@freddy325 I don't actually see the need for a unique normal map. The shield is meant to be a flat painted surface and I preserved the scratch detail in both the diffuse and specular maps. I always intended to make a shield that would suit the default normal map for reasons listed below.
If I were to make a normal map, I would either have to bake it from a 3D model, make it by hand or generate it from the texture with a Photoshop plugin. None of those are viable for me as I don't 3D model, painting it by hand would take forever to get right, and the various Photoshop plugins always produce bad results.
@Resev Thanks for the apology. My reply might have come across harsher than I intended it to.
The texture quality is amazing, but I do advise you to make a custom bumpmap for it, the dents/cuts just look a bit weird on the shield, and you could add some cool details or something with a new bumpmap.
I don't expect everyone to like my retexture, and I welcome constructive criticism, but I don't appreciate being told what to do next. Go make your request (demand) yourself.
Furthermore, Dragons very much are in keeping with Dark Souls lore. I don't understand how you can make sweeping generalisations about what is or is not in-character when Dark Souls provides no back story for the player character who is a blank slate for you to inhabit/roleplay as you see fit.
It's really nice to see something done to the Heater Shield which i very much enjoy using as it's the fastest parrying medium shield, and with 100% block to boot even if with low stability, but the dragon theme is so played out and so out of character i just cannot muster any excitement for it. The lack of a custom normal map doesn't help either.
Next time, do something regal or "solderish" to it, with a complex normal map.

Lets leave it at that.
