About this mod

The goal of this mod is to change the starting classes of Dark Souls PtDE so that they make more sense. Classes are mapped to one or more meta builds to make them useful. Their attributes have been carefully allocated so that classes are symmetrical and balanced, and their equipment has also been tweaked.

Dark Souls meta builds revolve around choosing a combination of Strength (STR), Dexterity (DEX), Intelligence (INT), and Faith (FTH). This mod changes the starting classes of the game so that they are balanced towards those combinations.

There are some stats specifically allocated to penalize the use of a class in a role that belongs to another. Namely, the INT and FTH values for Cleric, Brigand, Warrior, and Hunter are set so that their roles don't overlap with each other nor with Squire.

There are three wildcard classes: Pyromancer, Noble, and Deprived. They are not mapped to a specific meta build, so they can fit a wide variety of roles, but they differ in their starting gear.

This mod also changes the description of the classes on the character creation screen and the description of the Master Key item (there isn't a thief class).

Attributes

All classes have 80 points in total at SL1. The Resistance attribute should be ignored, so it has been set to 8 in all the classes so no class is at a disadvantage in that regard. The attribute allocation would be as follows:

Equipment

Squire:
Shortsword, Heater Shield, Hard Leather Set.
Cleric: Mace, Caduceus Kite Shield, Cleric Set.
Brigand: Scimitar, Target Shield, Brigand Set.
Warrior: Battle Axe, Warrior's Round Shield, Chain Set.
Hunter: Spear, Large Leather Shield, Short Bow, Hunter Set, Standard Arrow x30.
Sorcerer: Sorcerer's Catalyst, Small Leather Shield, Sorcerer Set, Soul Arrow.
Priest: Caestus, Leather Shield, Talisman, Holy Set, Heal.
Pyromancer: Pyromancy Flame, Caduceus Round Shield,
Pyromancer Set, Combustion, Fireball.
Noble: Longsword, Knight Shield, Armor of the Glorious, Gauntlets Of The Vanquisher,
Boots Of The Explorer, Throwing Knife x10, Firebomb x10, Gold Coin x3.
Deprived: Broken Straight Sword, Cracked Round Shield.

Builds and Use Cases

The following list shows which builds are optimal for each class. Because Pyromancer, Noble, and Deprived aren't mapped to a specific meta build, some use cases are pointed out.

Squire:
STR+DEX
Cleric:
STR
STR+DEX (DEX must be 11 and below to be optimal)
STR+FTH

Brigand:
DEX
STR+DEX (STR must be 11 and below to be optimal)
DEX+INT

Warrior:
STR+DEX (DEX must be between 11 and 14 to be optimal)
STR+INT (DEX must be 12 or above to be optimal)

Hunter:
STR+DEX (STR must be between 11 and 14 to be optimal)
DEX+FTH
(STR must be 12 or above to be optimal)
Sorcerer:
INT
INT+FTH
STR+INT
DEX+INT

Priest:
FTH
INT+FTH
STR+FTH
DEX+FTH

Pyromancer:
Because Pyromancy does not scale with any attribute, this class is optimal for any build that needs at least 2 spell slots (ATT=12). Other classes can fit the same role but this one starts with 2 pyromancies.
Noble:
Originally conceived as a counterpart to the Deprived class, it starts with shiny clothes and offensive consumables. However, it doesn't meet the requirements to use its sword and shield right off the bat. Because of this, in order to beat the tutorial, you should avoid enemies and spend your offensive consumables on the Asylum Demon... or you can 2-hand your shield and deal decent damage. Similar to the Pyromancer, this class is optimal for any build that needs at least 2 spell slots (ATT=12).
Deprived:
Traditionally regarded as a challenge class, it fits the same builds as the two above, but it starts with poor equipment
