I. How to install:

------------------

i.) Bass Cannon weapon model:

----------------------------

1.) You'll need Nyxojaele's DSMODT. Go get it. (http://www.rivernyxx.com)

2.) Create a new project, and name it whatever you want. (It's not relevant.)

3.) Click on the drop-down list which has "Maps" chosen, and choose "Weapons".

4.) Choose the Zweihnder, or any weapon you wish to replace with the Bass Cannon.

5.) Click on the pencil icon on the top right corner to enter Edit mode, and name it whatever you want. (again it's not relevant.)

6.) Drag "BassCannon.dae" into DSMODT's window.

//If it won't let you, simply restart the program, choose your project, and find your weapon under the "User Weapons" drop-down tab. Now try again.

7.) You need to orientate the model in such a way, that the cannon points down and the plank (which has the cannon's Diffuse tex placed in for some reason) is on the left side of it. You can do this via the buttons on the top right corner.

//Turning around the X axis to the right by 90 and then the Y axis to the right by 180 should do the trick.

8.) The model consists of two separate objects: the wooden plank and the cannon. Select the latter.

9.) Select Material "M_7Metal[DSB][L]" on the drop-down list. (I found this looks best for the model.)

10.) You'll need to drag the tex files on to the corresponding squares:

bc_D is the Diffuse (or "Main" in this case). This should already be in place.

bc_B is the Bump map.

bc_S is the Specular map.

11.) Cannon should be ready. Select the wooden plank now.

12.) Material "M_1Wood[DSB][L]" is your best bet.

13.) Same as Step 9.): wood_D = Diffuse, wood_B = Bump, wood_S = Specular.

14.) When done, click on the blue box with an arrow pointing down on the top left corner. Select "Apply Current Changes".

15.) And finally, select the box in Step 13.) again, and hit either "Quick Save" or "Save to Dark Souls".

16.) Enjoy your in-game Bass Cannon.

ii.) Bass Cannon icon:

---------------------

0.) I assume you have DSFix installed. If not: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? (http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/19/)

1.) Open "DSFix.ini".

2.) Find "enableTextureOverride". Set it to 1.

3.) Paste "60a2c243.png" into "...\DATA\dsfix\tex_override".

iii.) Descriptions and names of the Bass Cannon in-game:

-------------------------------------------------------

a):

1.) Copy "dvdbnd3.bdt" and "dvdbnd3.bhd5", and paste(replace) them into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA".*

*Note: this will only change the Zweihnder's descriptions and names, so if you chose to replace anything but the Zweihnder's model, you should skip this.

**WARNING**

DSMODT overwrites these files, so you'll have to replace them everytime you save a new model to Dark Souls.

------------

//ADVANCED\\

------------

b):

1.) You'll need Wulf's BND Rebuilder and FMG editor. Go get them. (http://www.wulf2k.ca)

2.) Extract "\DATA\dvdbnd3.bhd5" using Wulf's BND Rebuilder. This will create a "dvdbnd3.bhd5.extract" folder.

3.) Extract "\dvdbnd3.bhd5.extract\msg\ENGLISH\item.msgbnd.dcx".

4.) Extract "\dvdbnd3.bhd5.extract\msg\ENGLISH\item.msgbnd".

5.) This will create a series of folders. Go through them all.

6.) Use Wulf's FMG editor to edit these files.

The one with the names is ".fmg" or rather "the second largest file" of all.

The one with the descriptions is ".fmg" or rather "the largest file" of all.

The Zweihnder's IDs start from 350000.

7.) Once done, go back to "\dvdbnd3.bhd5.extract\msg\ENGLISH\", and rebuild "item.msgbnd".

8.) Now rebuild "item.msgbnd.dcx".

9.) And finally rebuild "dvdbnd3.bhd5".

10.) Enjoy your custom made in-game descritpions and names you've just created.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

II. How to uninstall:

---------------------

i.) & iii.): Restore Dark Souls via DSMODT. (Note: this affects all custom models.)

ii.): Set "enableTextureOverride" to 0, and/or remove "60a2c243.png" from "\tex_override".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

III. Known issues:

------------------

-Minor tex f-up on the cannon. (I have no idea what could be causing this. Seems like it repeats the texture squeezed up at the edges of some UV islands. If you know any solutions, I'd be grateful if you'd share it with me.)

-Major tex f-up on the wooden plank. (Still looks plausible though.)

-When selecting a character to load from the "Depths", the game will display something else instead of the name of the place. (Doesn't impact gameplay.)

-For some reason, some White fogs' textures might not appear, though you can still traverse them. This is caused by the description and name editing.

Confirmed locations of missing white fogs so far:

-Undead Asylum

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IV. Credits and extra notes:

----------------------------

Included the UV map of the Bass Cannon's model for custom textures.

As seen in the video, it works online. If your opponent wields the Zweihnder, their model will be swapped out as well (but only on your screen).

Model and most of it's textures created by me (/u/ravagerchris37). Wood tex snatched from the internetz (though it's bump and spec also created by me). The cannon's texture is based on Zanderflex's tex mod.

I'm still a noob when it comes to 3D modeling, but I'm working on some other ideas, and am willing to do requests as well. Feel free to PM me on reddit if you'd like me to make a mod for you. (For free.) ;-)

Special thanks to Nyxojaele, Wulf2k, and of course Durante, our hero, without whom modding Dark Souls wouldn't be as easy.

Getting the special attacks seen in the video requires you to cheat. That's why I'm not going to help you with this one. The only legit special attack in this vid is the Dragon Greatsword's R2 with the Bass Cannon's model.

Enjoy!
