Open your darkest dungeon file from steam, right click on dd2 -> manage -> browse local files, drag the mod folder from the Darkest Dungeon II_Data and replace all files
Any chance you could make another variant which aims to remove all sources of candles that would place them in the inventory? Or remove the candles of hope inventory item from the game in general?
