EDIT: My God... I read and reread the description and it never occurred to me to look at optional download files. Not sure how I have missed it. For other dimwits out there, a compatibility patch is provided here.
Hi @Sappho20
Excited to try and play through the whole thing – both Arena and your Main Quest Enhanced at once, seeing as I never got the opportunity back in the 90ies.
I can see that the BRISIEN file overlaps; I have diff compared them and to my code-untrained eye it looks like you have made them safe to overwrite, that is to say ARENA's overriding the MQE's file. Is that correct? Can they both be used at once and played consecutively?
Am I the only one having issues with the Arena Cutscenes zip for Linux? It seems to be missing a number of cutscenes. It only has cutscenes 16 to 23 when it should have 16 to 36.
In case anyone is interested, the workaround I found for now is to just download the cutscenes for Windows and convert them from MP4 to webm format and it works flawlessly.
I've been having a blast with this mod, and I applaud the clever way you managed to recreate Arena's main quest within Daggerfall's quest engine. However, I do have a little issue with it. The frequency of quest enemy spawns makes it pretty much impossible to rest inside any of the main quest dungeons. I'm halfway through the questline and so far in my playthrough I haven't been able to rest in any of the main quest dungeons even once, every time I try the rest interface pops up but then I get the "there are enemies nearby" message before I get even one hour of rest. I edited the quests to lower the encounter chance a bit to see if this problem improves.
I am running into the same thing! I guess I could just stock up on potions before going to the dungeon. But resting is critical so the rat spawning is super frustrating! I try not to tele2 excessively but sometimes....
Still new to Daggerfall modding, but I wanted to check something because I feel rushed at the start of the game. I loaded this mod in so I could access the Arena quest. Should I still be getting the intro video from Daggerfall with the Emperor before I am able to choose the chapter? Also it is telling me that I am suppose to have some sort of tutorial, but it only scrolls through text, before spitting me outside of a random dungeon that it claims is privateers hold. And before I can react to anything in the game, I am swarmed by what I can only assume is the entire set of enemy mobs, now outside the dungeon with me. Is this normal? What do I need to troubleshoot here?
Hi, Basically the original intro's are unskippable and you should just ignore them, You'll get them again once you finish Arena anyway. The tutorial is the same and it is best to just say no to it anyway as it is only annoying text walls. As for the dungeon, it should be random and there could always be a mob outside waiting for you. I would start again to see if it repeats. and perhaps be ready with the console command 'tgm'. Perhaps also try rejecting a random start so that you start in privateers hold and see if that works ok.
I have tried to see what happens when i activate a common symbol outside the designated area. This made me immediately find the 1st piece. I thought I would instead get some dialogue by Ria. Was this because I was in the wrong region? (i.e. if I travel to the correct region, activate the symbol, then she will just give me more infos)?
Edit: Or should I only activate the symbols AFTER I found the pieces?
Activate the symbol when you are in the designated region to start the quest.
I have also experienced the quest acting like I've already found the piece. I have not completed the questline, but I imagine this to be game-breaking because you won't have the actual piece in your inventory without properly finding it in the designated dungeon.
Basically, as already said, you activate the symbol in the province first. However the quest is looking for a specifice dungeon type to put the piece in, human stronghold or mine etc. If it cannot find a sutible dungeon then the quest ends, but the areana backbone will assume the quest ended bacuse you have the piece and thus start the next quest. Its a bit of a fail safe. I tested it in the regions it asks you to visit so activating in the wrong province may cause the error.
Technically, all the pieces dissapear upon quest ending so skipping a quest is ok. It will just assume you have them all at the right moment.
Same thing happened to me when I started in a random dungeon. I'd say either use the console with tcl to go into noclip mode and fly up to a safe spot, or if you've already fallen too far you can use the console to teleport to the dungeon exit. Not the coolest way to start a game but when the game glitches out you're justified to work some console magic.

Are cutscenes necessary to use ArenaFall?

Did your encounter chance adjustment help?
Is it possible to do this after the Daggerfall MQ?
startquest DW100200
That will begin it, just be sure when you finish Arena to trow away the final maguffin that restarts the Daggerfall MQ.

3Mb/s is the download speed limit rather than the data limit. You should still be able to download larger files, it just takes longer.
