Just an idea, I think it would be a nice feature if the mod didn't delete the saves but instead moved them somewhere inaccessible to the game. That way, if you died to a glitch, you could restore the save, but they're still sealed away to discourage dishonoring yourself. I'm just using the extra life on level-up for now as a compromise.
I tried to play with this mod for first time and I got some weird bugs : upon trying to speak to a villager, the dialog window would pop but my cursor would not show, so I was unable to select dialog options ; the only way for me to exit dialog window was pressing escape, and at that moment I realized that everytime I pressed escape the mod would save the game, for some reason
I tried to change the settings of the mod but that behavior remained, even with the 5 minutes autosave disabled and non-dungeon saves parameter set to None, the game kept saving upon pressing escape while I was in town
I never got any of this prior to installing this mod, and when I loaded a character that I made before installing it, the dialog window works fine, so I don't know what's going on. Maybe there is a conflict with 'Advanced Dialog' mod ? Even if I disable IronmanOptions the dialog window is just broken on my new character, I have to replay my former character to have it working
were you in the mournoth region when this happened? i would try enabling both mods and traveling to another region to test it in case you are; it's a bug in base DFU that causes advanced dialogue to stop working in mournoth (i started in mournoth and had the same issue, but when i traveled to another region with both mods enabled advanced dialogue worked fine)
You are right, I was indeed in Mournoth region. I don't have the savefile anymore to test a changing of region. I apparently had an unlucky combination of testing Ironman Options for the first time + having Random Starting Dungeon spawning my character in the region where this problem with Advanced Dialog occurs
I was unsure which mod was creating this problem, because Ironman Options modifies the save system, and as I said the game was contantly saving upon pressing escape after opening a dialog window. I'm glad you were able to nail it down to a regional issue with Advanced Dialog
The life system doesn't work for me, at least in the way I thought it would. I had a level 3 character with lives through levelup enabled, but lost my save except for the permanent one from the beginning dungeon. How is this supposed to work, preserve the last permanent save or the last actual "Ironman" save from quitting the game? I'm assuming now that this is intended to be used with the other option with updates to the perma save by sleeping etc., is this the case?
Correct, you need to have set some kind of way for the mod to make a permanent save during play. Otherwise, there is no save to load back to when you die.
Yeah, in hindsight it makes sense that the main save gets deleted with death no matter what. Now I keep the save on rest option on as a necessity, as my only death was because of a glitch when traveling with too high a speed multiplier :D Thanks for reply, and the great mods.
Loving the mod. However, my first character died while traversing with Travel Options enabled, fell into a hole in the ground and just got killed (not into a void, but an actual hole with a floor beneath it).
Is there any way to recover the file? And if not, is there a way to back up saves in the future? I don't want to have saves for when resting / etc as I want to be close to an ironman mode, however, I don't want to lose a character due to some glitch in the terrain.
Hey, I'm really enjoying the mod but I keep running into a problem when entering residences in game. After a few seconds "Game Saved" messages continually repeat over and over. It seems like the save system gets overloaded and begins affecting performance really badly. I'm not sure whether it's something on my end with the load order but it seemed worth bringing up because the problem stopped when I turned off this mod. Thank you
The outside-dungeon option to save when using a campfire with no enemies around seems to be overriding the in-dungeon save during enter/exit option. It creates a save inside the dungeon when using the campfire.
This mod only has one permanent save. So this is working as intended. The outside/inside split is simply to allow more control over when the permanent save gets overwritten, not to have two different saves.
But isn’t the “outside of dungeon” save only supposed to work when outside of a dungeon? I have in-dungeon saving set to enter/exit only, but it still makes a permanent save inside the dungeon when I use a campfire
Okay, you have the outside save set to Fireplace resting but it also saves when inside dungeons? Yeah, that has to be an oversight on my end. I'll take a look at the code there.
This is one of those mods that I thought was ‘not for me’.The idea of not being able to save and reload in a game where you die so often seemed incompatible to me, especially if a I had a character for a long time. However, I tried it out and I can’t believe how much this mod changes your perspective on the game! It really adds depth knowing that a split-second choice could end your character forever! Its Daggerfall but with consequences. I really enjoyed my first character with this mod (died prematurely after the bear he was taking for a walk turned on him viciously, in Gothway Gardens). Still I’m hooked and am going to give it another go.
This looks awesome. I definitely like the idea of the extra life system. I'm doing random start locations with unleveled mobs, and I have so many mods stacked, who knows what the hell is going on anymore. I'm gonna add this next play through for sure. =) Great idea and thx for maintaining the mod.
For some reason if I simply press ESC and bring up the load/save/exit menu while inside a dungeon and then press ESC again to close the menu and return to playing, the game creates a save even though I set this mod to only save upon entering or exiting a dungeon.
edit: I just did another test. I reset the mod to default settings. Went back into the save, did the double ESC and the game saved despite the fact that default settings doesn't allow any manual saving at all!
Yes,. that is correct. That is the save called "Ironman" the save you have set up to save on entering dungeon is called "Ironman Permanent".
"Ironman" gets deleted if you die. Its function is to allow you to exit the game and continue later on from where you exited. Without this function, exiting the game would count as dying.
Ah, that makes total sense! I was thinking the "Ironman" save doesn't get deleted and thus there was no worry about dying in a dungeon because I could always just reload. I didn't realize there was actually two different saves. Thanks for clarifying!
Yeah, if you set the saving options to «never», you will be playing true ironman as you will only have one save which you have no control of. If you die it gets deleted. And since it is your only save, this deletes the character.

Great mod as always!
