You also don't have to have all RTX features on for the game to look amazing. In my opinion the order of priority for RTX features being turned on are
Reflections
World Lighting on Medium
Local Shadows
Sun Shadows
Honestly the shadow settings are just blurring the edges or making small items cast shadows that you aren't really gonna notice driving around or talking to people.
Regarding the lights disappearing I missed the updated settings in the first version so it wasn't working. If you want the new version but default lights change the line in the INI to add semicolons in front of the two:
Massive question here. It's been a longstanding issue with the game that on cards with 8gb of VRAM that over time, and especially if using menus, the game starts to lose performance dramatically after a while if VRAM gets used up. Ray tracing in general has this issue as it's an NVIDIA thing. I don't particularly want to turn off RT, and setting textures to medium can work, but it's not optimal. Are there any other tweaks that can be done to reduce VRAM usage without having to sacrifice too much? This would be greatly appreciated and would be a profound gamechanger for very many of us.
For reference, I get almost 70fps all the time but then after an hour or so it can drop to 40-50fps in the same areas. It's saddening. Thanks for any and all help!
I did notice that! I commented those lines. The question is, are the default values good enough to not need to turn textures down to medium? Or are there ways to even further lower VRAM usage?
Late to the party but thank you for the ini tweak and this comment. I now have my game running with RT reflections, a great frame rate and a much lower latency. Great work!
I had a problem with stutters using RTX 3070ti with ray tracing. Used your file and turned off RT reflections (only RT turned on, first option in RT menu), and no problem at all. Thank you!
P.S. The lack of VRAM was the problem. Cannot understand Nvidia with their 3060 12Gb and 3070Ti with only 8Gb. I guess it's for marketing purposes, don't have any other thoughts.
You realize there's no ray tracing in your game whatsoever? That first switch is only to enable turning on and off actual RT features, it does nothing by itself.
About a 9% increase in FPS with my 4080 without changing any settings in this ini file. I mean it's better then nothing. Was just hoping for more. But i will use it as i do prefer lower watt usage when using vsync. 1440p ultra settings except ray trace lighting at med. With my 12yo cpu/mobo etc i still get 81fps avg without the mod and 88fps avg with the mod. I am using dlss+framegen obviously. Pretty much have to with this old cpu. I suspect without framegen and a newer cpu etc the increase % would be better. I played for several hours and no issues with lower fps after going in and out of menus or using the map many times. And i also haven't updated any dlss files. Although i have heard updating some of the dlss files not all of them does resolve issues.
Hi, I got a very good performance from your mod but I found a bit issue NPC has a gold skin when I turn on Ray Reflection please advise what I need to edit in a file.
update: There seem to be bugs in the game when using Ray Reflection sometimes no mod reflection found this issue too. thanks.
I installed your mod and path tracing now runs at 40+ fps which is crazy considering I own a 3080ti. I'm on 3440x1440p and even on normal Raytracing with all settings turned on, it runs butter smooth 65-85 fps. I also use GITS mods and i saw in the comments you say delete the RTXDIY file which i did. I also copied the line "[Editor/VolumetricFog] Exponent = 10.000000"
Into your 0Path&Ray_Optimization.ini, so hopefully I did it correct but if not let me know how to make this and GITS work well together, other than that thanks!
To anyone searching through these and checking comments in the path tracing mods, this one is the best and easiest to get going. Working amazing with PT on my 3090.
My pc runs [pretty decent 45-50 most of the time on ultra setting, ultra lighting and path tracing 4k. 4070 ti oc + amd 7, 7800x3d. However as soon as I enter the menu once or twice, my game is f'ed until I close and restart it. Closing inventory drops my fps to about 6 to 8 for about 20 seconds. Each menu and map open the worse it gets and longer the fps slow down period gets until my normal fps drops to like 20 total. This is also on regular RTX. It is not as noticeable without RTX but it still happens.
I can't figure out what this is related to and what the menu or map has to do with anything but if I never open the menu I have smooth and great fps.
Huh with your setup I wouldn't expect it to be an issue but fie me that happens because of VRAM filling. For one with PT make sure you use Ray Reconstruction, but otherwise worst case try Medium textures and see if that fixes it. If so, then it's a VRAM constraint. Perhaps from pushing everything so high. It's impressive you get that performance at 4k with mad everything really. And comment out the but in the ini mentioned below so it uses less VRAM
I dont understand your comment that well. Are you saying that my performance is really low compared to my specs or that I have really good performance for my machine?
Maybe there is an issue with my graphics card... but benchmarks on timespy and heaven run ok. How do I stop memory leaks?
Ultra its like 60fps average and low is 50. With Pathtracing average is probably like 47-50 but there is too much ghosting/frame generation. In still shots it looks better but in a moving game honestly pathtracing off is looking better I think with my current settings. I forgot to say I have cascade shadows and mesh on low. Everything else on maximum and I tried RTX on psycho but I did not see much of an improvement so I went back to ultra.
I had a very similar issue and I fixed it by updating the game's DLSS .dll files. There are 3 of them in the game's folder but I believe you only have to update "nvngx_dlss.dll", which is the one responsible for the resolution scaling part of DLSS.
Just google this: how to manually update game DLSS .dll
I think this “memory leak” or whatever it is is well documented across the internet. What help in my case is setting textures to medium. The game still slows down but it takes much longer. I also avoid opening the map just in case.

-[RayTracing/LocalLight]
;Capacity = 16
;GridSize = 4
Or you can edit the lines in increments based on your personal system here is an example:
-[RayTracing/LocalLight]
Capacity = 32 <-----128 is Default
GridSize = 8 <-----No more than Default 16 or you'll lose fps
For reference, I get almost 70fps all the time but then after an hour or so it can drop to 40-50fps in the same areas. It's saddening.
