CLM is a mod that restore the lighting and colorgrading of the 2018 version of the game using the original files
Summary:
i wasnt a fan of how the game colors ended up looking compared to the
2018 footage, the extremely heavy contrast and the constant yellow/gold
cast everywhere like a Hollywood movie disappointed me, the original
colors direction was more like an 80/90 cybperunk movie/anime wich i
preferred a lot
so i started to work on the mod on and off a bit after the initial release of the game, what took so long was figuring
out how to make the change across the entire main questline and zones,
since the old files are not compatible with the release version of the
engine and i didnt want to alter them and make them fit, the goal was to
keep it strictly like they were left from 2018 build as much as
possible
however those old files were extremely incomplete, they used variables/settings that dont exist/work anymore, so i had to
figure out 80% of the rest on top of making them work for the version of
the engine that we have
Tonemaping:
- switched from Linear to ACES, ACES is the tonemapper used in the 2018/2019
builds of the game, it has a softer/ brighter/neutral colors look to it
compared to the heavily contrasted Linear mod used in the released
version
LUT/colors:
- switched from the linear LUT to the SRGB LUT from the 2018 build applied across the entire game
(2019 build used a different LUT )
Lighting/Probes/IBL:
- replaced the original sunlight curves and skyLight with the oldest "
complete " version available, GI settings have been retuned to roughly
match the 2018 build
Volumetric Fog:
- matched settings from the 2018 build and re created some of them for distant
fog, also removed fog cast for Localights during the day like the 2018
build, but kept it during the night to keep the atmospheric feel of the
game
Clouds:
- the 2018 build had a constant cloud texture ( not volumetric ) since i couldnt implement that, i re
created those clouds with the volumetric system, they dont cast any
shadow they are just decorative, i also changed the clouds in badlands
and made them fit more the atmosphere of the desert
Weather:
- the weather work normally like default, but i remade the rain weather
to increase visibility a bit same for toxic rain, i have other plans for
the weather in a future update
RTX/Pathtracing:
- PT work normally like default, RT settings are taken from the 2019 version of the game
Mod compatibility :
the mod is not compatible with any weather mod, exposure mod or any mod
that modify the master env, certain sector files, basically anything that touch the
lighting/weather is incompatible and i have no plan to make any
compatibility effort
Mod limitations :
while the main quest is entirely supported you might come a cross certain
zones and sidequests where the mod doesnt work and you end up with an
extremely contrasted dark picture, if you see that please post a
screenshot and the quest/zone you where on so i can try and fix it
the game is gigantic so i couldnt cover every possible scenario, and it
take a lot of effort to do that, i will start working on sidequests soon
