For RTD 4.20, I completely re-did the settings for in-game density presets for improved experience. Crowd & traffic density for various city zones has also been extensively rebalanced. Additionally, efforts were to made to increase pedestrian density while driving while still managing performance.
"Low" and "Medium" in-game density settings are optimized for the best overall experience! "High" density is only recommended for very high-end CPUs.
A reminder that the in-game Crowd Density setting has been moved to the "Graphics" tab since Game Version 2.0!

> Common Known Issues PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING <
General performance & stability issues <- We are pushing the game engine and our PCs extra hard with mods like this. I have done fairly extensive testing for RTD v.4.20 but I make no guarantees. If performance & stability are especially horrible for you, try lowering in-game crowd density.
Traffic vehicles will sometimes get stuck <- This is a known basegame issue, not directly caused by mod
Traffic patterns may be buggy <- This is a known basegame issue, not directly caused by mod
Mizutani Shion drivers will honk their horns constantly <- This is an issue that came up in game version 2.1, I do not believe it is directly caused by this mod
Vortex does not like the v.2.0 and v.4.x packages due to the included .ini tweaks <- I recommend a manual install- if you have issues with Vortex, try the workaround posted in the comments or disable Vortex RedMod conversion
There remains unexpectedly high traffic in parts of the Badlands (especially in Jackson Plains, Red Peaks, and parts of Rocky Ridge area) <- Turns out fixing this will require more extensive changes to the Community System
Badlands have excessive 2D Vehicle sprites in the distance <- May or may not be easily solvable considering how the 2D LODs seem to work
2D Vehicle LODs and 3D Vehicle LODs don't match up at transition between LOD levels <- Not Easily Fixable as 3D and 2D Communities are separate
Gap between 3D and 2D Pedestrian LOD zones <- Looking into fix for future update
2D Vehicle LODs may be blurred in the distance <- I've made some attempts to fix this but it's a somewhat difficult issue
In some locations such as Lizzie's Bar, Crowd NPCs may flicker, A-Pose, or appear without clothing or hair <- Result of Game Engine limitations and high CPU load
In rare cases, Traffic Vehicles may launch into the air, explode, spawn upside down, or vanish leaving debris on road <- This Game Engine does not like very high Crowd and Traffic Densities.
If framerate drops very low, fewer traffic & pedestrians will spawn than expected <- The Game Engine is giving up. Reduce crowd density in game settings or upgrade CPU

Please update for 2.12a when i install RTD my game crashes in japantown with a Error Reason: Unhandled exceptionExpression: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xC0000005)Message: The thread attempted to read inaccessible data at 0x25B16860A50.I always played cp77 with this mod and waiting for an update before i get back on.

I have played with all the Settings and have found that 'VehicleSpawnRange' is the key. I have increased it and the result is '500' (meters?) is the maximum range 3D Cars are displayed. With values over that the Engine shows nothing :) With 600 as example there are 3D Cars in the first 500m and then 100m nothing and then 2D Cars.
So i changed it to 500 for 'medium', 'high' and 'psycho'. And also the 'PedestrianSpawnRange'. Here are two Screenshots. Low 'Crowd Density' (default Range Values) and 'medium' (500): https://ibb.co/rGSR8Vm https://ibb.co/SX5KT58
I haven't played CP2077 since 2.1. Did a fresh install with your mods but have been having consistent and reproducible crashes while driving (not always in the same spot, but majority of them occur in and around Japantown).
Here are my info
- Cyberpunk game version: Steam, latest patch 2.12 - Installed Mods: oof, I have 197 mods installed lol, probably can't list them all here. I don't expect you to actually troubleshoot with these mods anyway though. - Game GFX settings: everything on max, super sampling set to quality - Crowd Density setting: max - Where in NC do the crashes happen: always on the roads when driving, and I think always around dense traffics - CPU and if overclocked: i5-13600K not OCed - RAM and if overclocked: 32GB not OCed - GPU and if overclocked: MSI RTX 4090 not OCed - GPU driver version: latest Nvidia drivers - full Windows version: Windows 11 home - Any background apps running (Afterburner, Discord, etc): Steam, MSI afterburner & Riverturner
For mods, I don't have anything else that affect traffics. I thought first about your mod because without exception, all the crashes happened while driving. And now I see that some other people have reported crashing as well. I have used your previous versions but I don't remember crashing (at least not this much and consistent).
I hope this info can somewhat be of help, but also don't expect you to overwork yourself unless since you said it's only a minority who experienced this.
Wow, I think I just found my new crowd and traffic mod, I feel like that 80% of the stuttering is gone, that's impressive, great job! What is the technic/difference for a so nice cpu optimisation? Because ther's definitely something done in this side, isn't it?
i can't confirm this 100%, but i disabled one by one mod (except the cet, redscript etc.) and only when I have this mod enabled does my game have a horrible audio bug around certain parts of the map, I don't know what causes this but it's very loud and close to unplayable with how loud it gets.
I've had this happen too sometimes since game version 2.1 or so. I think there's some CPU utilization stuff going on in the newer game versions that's messing stuff up because I've also had audio issues without RTD installed on one of my systems (the one with the weaker CPU).
RTD is incredibly CPU-intensive, even with my attempts at balancing performance. In the next release there will be a focus on improving performance which should help stability too.
Maybe try deleting the [RTD] .ini files from /engine/config/platform/PC That helped me with frametime spikes on one of my machines and frametime spikes in modded cyb usually mean CPU usage problems which are generally the cause of audio distortion/dropouts in my experience.
Does the audio bug happen regardless of how crowd density is set in-game?
I haven't updated to the hotfix yet, but I'll look out for that when I do. FWIW I have noticed some weird crowd spawning stuff in the first 2.12 version. I'll keep an eye on it. RTD minimally affects the mechanics of crowd spawning, it's almost all increasing spawn limits & densities.
I get a 100% reproducible crash with this mod installed. I've gotten some before, but those seemed random, while I was just driving around. This time I'm playing 'Dream On', the Peralez mission, and I'm just starting to chase the van. This does not happen when not doing the mission, then I can drive around there just fine.
Shortly after turning left at the huge statue next to Jig Jig Street, the game crashes to desktop. Here's a pic of where it's at on the map: https://i.imgur.com/ftRqsyp.jpeg This is my load order: https://loadorderlibrary.com/lists/cyberpunk-thing-modified

I've tried the regular mod (4.20), debug build A, debug build B and debug build C (in your bugs section). All of them have the same issue. I don't get a crash log from CTD Helper unfortunately. Tried lowering Traffic Density from High to Medium, didn't help.

Running Cyberpunk off the QVO 860, 100+ GB free on all disks. VRAM is around 20/24GB for me. I disabled my GPU/CPU overclocks and the crash still occurs.
More info: Windows 11 Pro version 22H2, build 22621.3374 NVIDIA driver 551.68 MSI Afterburner is running. It also happens when I close it though, I doubt it's related to that.
Hi, thank you for the detailed feedback and plz excuse the late reply, I've been working a ton IRL. I wonder, if there's a way we can narrow things down a bit... I appreciate the dedication but to be honest I'm daunted by the prospect of deploying over 400 mods (great modlist btw!) to replicate the issue. Given my free time is pretty limited these days.
I will say that IMO the most likely issue is game engine / CPU getting overloaded, and/or a non-obvious conflict with other mods (not relating to what the mods do/change, but to how they affect CPU utilization) Since Cyberpunk gets unstable (in my experience) if cpu/frametime/simtime spikes too high, it stands to reason that hitting the CPU too hard will decrease stability. Raising traffic density will increase sustained CPU usage in Cyb more than anything else and I suspect I may have gone too far with density settings in some versions of RTD.
Combined with lots and lots of other mods, RTD coming in with irresponsible levels of CPU utilization could be the last straw for an already-strained game engine. I've "only" used up to around 150 mods at once but even at that level, one last thing getting added could cause the whole thing to collapse in specific in-game scenarios.
FWIW one of my machines is also a 5950X, with X570S mobo, RTX 3090Ti and RTX 4070Ti, 2TB NVMe 4x4. That CPU STRUGGLES with ultlramodded maxxximum traffic density Cyberpunk! Even after I've done an extreme amount of tuning on the CPU & mobo specifically to increase minimum framerates in ultramodded Cyb, it's working hard to keep a flat frametime graph.
And there's certain mods I just know I can't add to the modset (like Crowd Scanner, Lives of Night City, and parts of UltraPlus to name a few) because CPU usage will spike and I'll get crashes. It's not the fault of the specific mods necessarily, but the cumulative effect of all the mods working together to cause an .exe flatline. I cannot stress enough how much RTD is one of the most CPU-intensive mods on the entirety of nexusmods/cyberpunk2077, and it is ready any moment to convince other mods to help it crash the game.
The crashes you're describing are happening in the same general area of Japantown where other people have had issues- and I've noted that CPU usage in that part of the city can get totally out of control with modded traffic density + an extensive modset. Like "audio distorting and dropping out" or "USB devices glitching" levels of system overload, depending on PC & game config.
What I'm getting at is, I think RTD is pushing the game too hard for some configurations. Even on very high-spec PCs!
My general recommendation to you would be to investigate your CPU usage with a detailed overlay (including per-core CPU usage and frametime) and see if you can narrow down which mods are using the most CPU (other than RTD, complex script mods and high-rez texture packs are the biggest contributors). You may find that certain combinations of mods are unstable while other combinations work. That's been my experience at least.
One thing that could help narrow down a resource conflict is to check for excessive activity in the individual CET mod logs in /bin/x64/plugins/cyber_engine_tweaks/mods/ I've noticed that if a mod is majorly spamming the logfile with anything, the mod is probably also causing simtime/CPU usage issues which alone may not cause a crash, but can indirectly cause instability combined with CPU-heavy mods like RTD.
As an experiment, I might suggest deleting the [RTD] .ini tweaks from /engine/config/platform/pc if you haven't already.
While trying to diagnose some terrible frametime spikes on one of my machines (12900K + 32GB 3800CL14 + Z790 + Arc A770 + 4TB 4x4 NVMe) I noticed that deleting those files smoothed frametimes & CPU usage. I will need time to investigate which tweak(s) were causing the problem. Not sure if that' related to your issue though.
For what it's worth, I've decided the main focus for the next RTD release will be rewriting the mod to increase performance and stability, even at the cost of density, but that will take time.
Hey there! I am also one of the very few people who experience random crashes with v4.20. As with the others who commented, I have zero issues with v3.0.
Would very much like to help beta test and maybe discover if people who have crashes have anything in common (i.e specific hardware, certain mods). Tried to DM you but the forums site is being super dorky right now...
Hiya! Sorry to hear you're getting The Crashes. I would definitely welcome help with testing... I have some ideas for building experimental RTD packages to help isolate which differences between v3 and v4 could be causing the issues and I can put those together in the coming days.
I'll open an issue in the Bug Reports section so we can have a discussion about this :-)
What's your system specs (including tuning/OC) & GFX settings and are you using any other high-intensity mods such as texture mods / streaming tweaks / Cyberscript?
The 'extreme' version seems too little for me, my PC runs over 100fps in 4k with path tracing, could a version be made that's five times denser than extreme? I want to push my 4090 to the limit, I'm willing to pay for a mod like that.
I don't know if the game engine could even handle five times denser than the Extreme Edition... What sort of CPU are you running to get 100fps?! This mod is much more CPU-dependent than GPU, 4090 vs slower cards won't make much of a difference.
Reading between the lines, I think that person is probably using Frame Generation (otherwise 100fps+ with Pathtracing seems unlikely, even on a 4090) With FrameGen on, 100fps with this mod is very possible.
Just FYI, I tested this mod extensively. So this + Night City Alive + Gangs of Night City + astonishing crow density works fine, no crashes even at the very difficult areas.. Vram Usage is around 18gb.
But when I used 3 LOD mods and a bunch of textures (for NPC, Roads, Surfaces etc.) the games crashes with 100% consistency around the Arasaka tower and vram usage is basically 23.5 GB.
I love this mod but I consistently crash in certain spots, even with zero mods...just the astonishing setting enabled. I'm on a 13700k/4080 too...might be because of the weird CPU s#*! they did for 2.11 that made the game a little unstable for me. I wish there was a file for just the vehicle LOD improvement though.
Yeah I don't really recommend using "Astonishing" mode with this mod, even though it is compatible. The densities I've used for the hidden setting are kinda ridiculous, It's more of a replacement for the old RTD "Extreme Edition" for people who want to torture their CPU. Crashes are not unexpected with Astonishing density because it's pushing the game engine wayyy far beyond the default settings and the slightest thing could push it over the edge.
"High" or even "Medium" density is going to be a better experience. If one must have the absolute highest density and for some reason "High" isnt enough then go ahead and use "Astonishing" mode but I don't consider it "fully supported", just "compatible".

Major update!
