Since 1.1 of the mod it does that.It's because of the heat-up effect.When drawn ingame it begins the effect from 0.That's implemented from CDPR,maybe so that it does not glow on electrical or poison blades,on these blades the effect is there,it just don't start .Sadly the inventory and photomode does not recognize a drawn sword,so its also not starting the effect.No workarounds yet.But this heat up effect is a new thing since 1.3 or 1.4 patch,and i guess CDPR is working on it.The implementation of the military katana as a whole is a mess.It's like 2 people were working on it,each with different approach,without ever talking to each other.Then just combined their code.
You get a black grip + red blade basic one with random damage type. Get a bunch of them, pick those with thermal damage, then use save editor to upgrade them to legendary, pick one with desired additional damage type.
Not sure why no console commend list have this one... It can build all three variants (grey grip + red blade, red grip + grey blade, all grey), thought It'll have only one kind of elemental damage. Also out of unknown reason, even the thermal ones have a chance not growing. So just add crafting materials via console, and craft until you get the one you like.
Whenever I execute(kill-move) the enemy the glow disappears. I can sheathe/unsheathe the blade to bring the glow back, but Is there other way to fix this?
This ,i think is meant to be like that.The effect of heating up the katana when drawn and "dissipating" the heat when a finisher is activated ,this is all CDPR's effect for the thermal katana.I've merely enabled it.If it is a bug or a "feature" ,well.i don't know.

I don't know if you take requests, but would it be possible to bring the wakizashi (short katana) back into the game? The mesh files are there, but i'm not sure about the textures.
In 1.6 ,you have to edit the file w_katana_grip.app and tick enable under appearances/military/components/fx_decal_thermal.The file i believe is deprecated,the game now uses w_katana_appearances.app,yet for the save editor trick you have to edit the w_katana_grip.app.Hope that helps.
Used Virtual atelier to obtain the katana, got an electric dmg one. the glow is there as is the electric effect on it. Got another one with thermal dmg and it shows a 'smoke' effect on it. Then, save game, and reload : electric and thermal dmg are reverted back to physical dmg with just the glow and no effects....weird.
Used save editor to add a bit of electric dmg, and voila the effect is back and stays in place even after reload. I don't know what causes the electric dmg and thermal dmg to change into phys. dmg after a reload, is it Atelier or your mod ?
In any case, the blade looks awesome with a bit of added elec dmg and even has a 20% chance of shock on it, which is very nice. Great mod.
Ok, so i've tried the diff. versions 2 , 3 and final : (all obtained from Virtual Atelier , several tries)
Version 2 : Katana shows red glowing edge, but reverts back to Physical damage version after reload, glow stays ON. When getting electric version, red glow stays ON + getting electric effect , also revers back to physical dmg, glow stays ON, electric effect disappears.
Version 3 : thermal dmg version : Glow ON, smoke effect. Electric , NO glow, electric effect. Both revert back to Phys dmg version after reload, and glow + effect disappear.
V 1.1 Final : Glow on thermal dmg, effects on electric and chem version, no glow. Stay the same after reload.
To get the glow AND effect : Using version 2 : make one to get the glow(phys.dmg also works(it reverts to that)), use save editor to add minor electric OR chem OR thermal dmg : get BOTH the glow and effect, for example : phys dmg katana that has glow, add 25 dmg electric : get glow + electric effect. Thermal katana that has glow, add 25 dmg elec : get glow + elec effect.
Using version 3 : doesn't work, only glow OR effect.
Using Final : Doesn't work. You get a glow when getting a thermal one, or electric effect when getting elec dmg one, but after reload the glow / effect revert back to Phys. dmg katana. (did it 1st time and it stayed on, afterwards with diff katana's it went away....)
Sidenote : i'm keeping Version2, get a katana, add electric dmg(minor), and get a glowing katana that also has an electric effect. Zzzzapp!
Mod should NOT be installed in the redmod folder (Cyberpunk 2077/mods), it should be installed via the old method (archive/pc/mod).
The ONLY katana that displays the thermal edge is the basic, all black Military katana skin. The ones with a red handle, or blade, or any other color, will NOT display the glowing edge even with thermal damage, even though they will have the sort of fuming and sparking effect around the unlit serrated blade.
How to get an all black Military katana? There are a few ways:
1 - Get a virtual Atelier mod that sells the military katana. Buy it until you get one with the correct skin. This is the easiest method but requires eddies and you might not get crafting bonuses.
2 - Use something like respector or a console command to add the military katana crafting spec and craft it until you get the right skin. I recommend this if you want all the crafting bonuses,
3 - Same as number 2, but with Enhanced Craft you can choose the skin, but be aware this sometimes doesnt work anyway, so keep trying.
4 - Use respector or a console command to give yourself the item a bunch of times and check if they have the right skin. If you use respector you'll get max slots.
Remember, THE ACTUAL SKIN DOES NOT ALWAYS CORRESPOND TO THE ICON YOU SEE IN THE INVENTORY! EQUIP AND CHECK FIRST!
Thanks for the thorough guide,the mod is updated to 1.1-V3.Now it should spawn the edge effect on all military katana models ,that have thermal damage.
