I don't really see the point in arguing against a name that was coined decades ago. It differentiates the smoother rhythms and basslines (which often sound like or even are based on funk licks) from the harder edges of techstep, which it evolved out of.
Regardless, I hope you do make a funk radio station, I'd def enjoy having that in the game.
