Amazing work, but me who run the game with a potato could figure out how to drasticly reduce the billboard texture or remove them altogether because after awhile those leaked and i'm tired seeing that creepy smile and what appears to be a backside almost everytime...
Even though the effect is relatively minor the difference is enough to make a difference, thanks! The distant and 'whenever you are driving or riding' textures are so, so poor.
What someone really needs to do is figure out how to turn the LOD off for sign textures while you are driving/riding. The engine literally does not even attempt to load sign and billboard textures when you are driving/riding, no matter how much performance you have and no matter how slowly you are moving. Simply try this: hop on any motorcycle and ride around really slowly anywhere you can see a lot of signage. Watch the signs never load. Often not even when you stop moving entirely. Now get off the bike and run as fast as you can around the same area. Watch the signs look just fine, even though you are now moving far faster than on your leisurely ride. (The programmer responsible for this CP77 engine-design 'feature' needs to be blackballed from ever working in the gaming industry again. What kind of idiot comes up with a solution like that one?)

That's an extremely harsh criticism to make without any knowledge of the engine's code nor the constraints this featurewas feveloped under. I doubt this is a programming plunder, rather I think this is the manifestation of several issues and the need to run on many different platforms.
With all the widely and well known public knowledge about development, no idea why anyone would blame a coder for not going back in to fix a placeholder game setting before release when the coders had absolutely no say whatsoever on release timing.
They load fine in third person, just not first - It's a low priority bug and will be a long way down the to-do list as it doesn't inhibit progress in any way.
I think I got a big drop in performance with this sadly, with an i9 9900k and a 3090 I was hoping there wouldnt be. Talking down from 60 stable to 45 in some areas.
I have the exact same specs (Overclocked though) and no performance issues whatsover with this mod installed. (In fact, my game is overloaded with 4k and even 8k retextures and runs perfectly fine) I don't think this mod is the cause of your performance issues.
I wasn't really sure how much I would notice this but after a few minutes of driving around Night City, it was obvious that the billboards were really "popping" now. A definite improvement. Thank you.
I hate the buggy billboards. Especially when turning really fast in the game. You can see them glitch out because of the unused "tailored ads" feature that was not finished before release. This game is still in beta imo.
This mod was made by scaling base textures DOWN to the LOD textures, not scaling LODs up.
If you notice an issue, I need to know the specific billboard (just a screenshot of it). So I can either sharpen and then scale the base texture or leave the vanilla texture in. From what I've seen in game it's either an improvement or completely unnoticeable. (the All Foods Family, Thrud and Northoak ads look MUCH better now IMO)
I tested it and I can't see the difference (or it's probably hard) like what we see in the screenshot sections. So it's just a texture improvement, right ?
To be clear, I don't understand the title of that mod. How it's related to LoD ?
LoD is about distant object and rendering and I didn't see any improvement with that mod about that or I'm blind perhaps. Any explanation or video comparison between vanilla vs modded will be very welcome.
LOD in this case refers to smaller versions of textures used at a distance to conserve memory.
In effect, this will make distant billboards look better, and make the transition between LOD textures more smooth.
It's unfortunately very difficult to create comparisons because most billboards in the game cycle between ads. I will be looking for more static billboards like the one in the only comparison shot I have right now. I'm about to play the game again for the first time in about a week because I've been busy modding, so give me some time. :)

That's kinda how QA works Choom.
