Changelogs
This mod brings back the Free Camera mode, allowing you to explore the map in 3D fashion with extended zooming.

The Free Camera is a feature that allows you to rotate and zoom the map in 3D space, which has been removed in game versions 1.5 and later.
This mod is based on the original Free Camera game v1.11 code and behavior, with additional enhancements built on top of it.

Feature set:

  • Free Camera: Rotate the map.
  • Free Camera: Change the camera viewing angle (pitch).
  • Free Camera: Zoom in/out, following the map rotation and viewing angle.
  • Extended zoom-in levels for better detail inspection.
  • Optional advanced features: rotation reset; hide background elements seen through buildings while dragging, rotating, or zooming the map.
  • Supports keyboard, mouse, and gamepad controls.

How to use it:

Just install it along with the required dependencies, and it should work out of the box.
Unlike the original Free Camera, it does not require pressing the M button to switch camera control modes:

Mouse controls:

  • Free Camera: Rotate/pitch the map by dragging it with the Left Ctrl key held down.
  • Switch between map movement and rotation modes by holding or releasing the Left Ctrl key while dragging the map with the left mouse button.
  • Alternatively, enable the middle mouse button in the mod's settings and hold it to rotate the map. This mode works alongside the Left Ctrl key and left mouse button dragging - it's up to you which one to use at any moment.
  • Zoom in/out with the mouse wheel (as in the vanilla game) to enjoy the extended zooming feature. It also fixes a long-standing issue with unintended "walking" across the map when zooming in/out with the mouse.
  • Reset rotation/zoom: exit the map and the hub menu or, if the reset feature enabled: double-tap Reload button.
Note: Middle mouse button support is not enabled by default to avoid confusing users who may be unaware of the new functionality when using mouse wheel zoom.

Keyboard controls:

  • Free Camera: Rotate/pitch the map using the arrow keys.
  • Reset rotation/zoom: exit the map and the hub menu or, if the reset feature enabled: double-tap Reload button.

Gamepad controls:

  • Free Camera: Rotate/pitch the map with the right stick.
  • Zoom in/out with the trigger buttons (as in the vanilla game) to enjoy the extended zooming feature.
  • Reset rotation/zoom: exit the map and the hub menu or, if the reset feature enabled: double-tap Reload button.

Customization:

You can adjust the mod's behavior in its settings, available in the CET overlay window and the Native Settings UI menu (if you happen to have it installed).

Limitations:

While the feature name "Free Camera" was coined by the game developer, it's not entirely free:
- The camera operates in an orbiting mode around a central point in your view.
- The camera pitch is limited to a 30–90 degree range.
As these limitations are in place for safety reasons, this mod is designed to honor them.

Compatibility Info:

Requirements:

Cyber Engine Tweaks - mandatory - this mod won't run without CET.
Codeware - optional but highly recommended to enable full feature set. Please note that it also has its requirements like RED4ext and redscript.

Game support:

Designed to run on game version 2.0 or higher with corresponding CET and Codeware versions.
It will not activate on earlier game versions.
Developed and tested on game version 2.21.
While it's not thoroughly tested with previous game versions, it should work in the supported range.

Compatibility with other mods:

The mod follows the game design and relies heavily on the game mechanics and built-in UI fundamentals.
If you use it with mods that change the game's fundamentals, the results may vary and depend solely on the quality of the other mods.
If you use mods that change the game design, circumvent the game methods to make it behave differently, or disrespect shared resource usage rules, and you find the final results unacceptable or falling short of expectations, there is nothing I can do about it, as game compatibility is affected by the other mods.
If you experience any unexpected issues while using this mod, please test it without any other mods installed first (apart from core mods like CET or Codeware and their dependencies) to confirm the issue before reporting it.

Issue Reporting:

In case of issues, please make sure to update the mod and its requirements to the latest supported versions first.
DO NOT assume you already have the latest versions installed - verify by checking the mod pages.

If you still experience some unexpected mod functionality on the supported game and requirements versions, please first verify it with all other mods disabled (with the exception to the required mods and their dependencies) before reporting. Additionally, please provide details allowing to identity and reproduce the issue in your report.

automatic - use Vortex manager. Please note it may sometimes not work properly due to the Vortex issues. In case of issues please install it manually.

Uninstall:

automatic - use Vortex manager if it was installed by Vortex.
manual - remove the folder:

Big thanks to Jekky (don't know who he is? I bet all your redscript mods work thanks to his inventions!) for publishing his suggestions on partially reviving the retired Free Camera in the game along with his permission to use it, which allowed me to build on top of that, and to DBK01 (a renowned modder) for pointing me to issues resulting from raw code snippet implementations.
cutterhead for publishing his mod based on Jekky's suggestion first on Nexusmods.
Yamashipsiberx & the whole Cyber Engine Tweaks development team - the mod would simply not exist without their hard work on researching & developing the game modding fundamentals & tools and their excellent support.
