About this mod

A comprehensive document that gives an introduction to Cyberpunk modding from the ground, Including setting up tools and software + addons, with no prior modding experience necessary at all.

Permissions and credits
This document aims to give an easy introduction to modding the game, by explaining how to set up the basic software, and unpacking your game files and making models viewable, and other files human readable. All of this requires no prior knowledge about game modding, only a reasonable understanding of how to use a computer. It will give you a basic understanding of how mods are constructed and made ready for game use, and how you can make your own. I hope people who might be interested in modding, but might be afraid of it being too hard or overwhelming will find help and encouragement in this document.

The primary focus/end goal of this tutorial is replacing a model with a different model, and changing which appearance it has. It will not cover custom appearances, but it will show how to use the different presets the game already has for said model, such as having different colour variations and decal on a pair of pants. If you want an example of these variations ingame, you can easily compare different clothing items like the “Jeans” type pants, who can have different materials and colours for each version.

If you intend on reading the entire document before starting, I would at least recommend getting started on unpacking the game files before reading further, since this process might take some time. This only requires CP77Tools, so you can set up the other software later.

Thank you! This is actually the most important part of this document. The only reason I’ve learned all this, the only reason this document exists at all, is because of these people, and i want to say thanks to all of you, and why.

Rfuzzo and the WolvenKit Team - For some incredible work making CP77Tools, an incredibly useful tool that is part of what makes all this possible. Thank you for your research, support and good communication.

alphaZomega - For the Noesis and 010 Editor plugins, help with understanding modding, encouragement and support as a whole. Without these tools, modding would be torture at best. They make everything readable, and are continuously developed bringing us more functionality as more things in the game are researched.

Crazy Potato - For teaching me a ton overall in Cyberpunk modding. You’ve taught me many things, helped me iron out issues, give me ideas for how to solve them, and test with me when something was wrong.
SilverEzredes - For teaching me even more about CP modding. Especially regarding 3d modelling, you’ve taught me about functions I had no clue even existed, and always seem to know something about what has gone wrong when it does.

иᶦო (nim) - If this document does even half as much as you did for me when i first the Cyberpunk 2077 Modding discord, it’ll have surpassed my hopes and goals by many miles. You’re a great teacher, and always helping out, because there’s always something you know, and always someone in need of help. You are there for them, including me, helping modders through everything when they feel lost, and don’t know where to look. You’ve discovered a lot regarding vehicle editing, something i initially tried, but was just overwhelmed by, and didn’t figure out properly.

Ms.T - For your Tattoo guide, which is an amazing resource, and has also indirectly given me lots of thoughts about what should be included in this document, and how to best explain things. Thank you for your positivity and will to help and teach others

There are more people that probably should be on this list. In the end, I want to thank the entire Cyberpunk 2077 modding community, on discord and on NexusMods, for being so incredibly loving and supportive. You’re here, trying to make everyone’s experience as a modder, and as a mod user, and someone who wants to start modding, the best it can be. Thank you, all of you. For teaching me everything I know about modding, and for making my time modding and hanging with the community an amazing time.

With my warmest and most loving regards, Halvkyrie
