About this mod

Conversions of all official and several unofficial C3/DS breeds to the TWB/TCB genome base. TWB (True Warmblood) and TCB (True Coldblood) Creatures feature an advanced set of genetics, allowing them to react in a more realistic way to their environment.

The TWB (True Warmblood) and TCB (True Coldblood) genome bases build upon the CFF genome to add more features and functionality. The primary feature of these genomes is an internal body temperature which can be influenced by a Creature's environmental temperature, physical activity and diet. Along with this, other major additions include a fixed hunger system, overhauled immune system and blood system allowing Creatures to hold their breaths for longer when underwater. Their behaviors have also been improved, Creatures are more expressive appearing sad when hungry and most Norns also have an innate fear of Grendels and will seek out doors in order to escape from them.

So what's the difference between TWB and TCB?

The main difference between the two is that True Warmblooded Creatures can regulate their own internal body temperatures while True Coldblooded Creatures cannot. This allows TWBs to adapt to environments with greater temperature extremes than TCBs, who are limited in the environments that they can feel comfortable in. The trade-off for this is that TCB creatures have slower metabolisms, allowing them to subsist on less food than their warmblooded counterparts. They are also more tolerant to internal temperature fluctuations; a body temperature that would kill a TWB can be easily shrugged off by a TCB until they can move into a more suitable environment.

All Norns and Ettins with the exception of Draconian and Basilisk Norns are warmblooded. All Grendels are coldblooded.

Do they need any special care?

Being temperature sensitive not all environments are suitable for these Creatures, in fact many third-party mettarooms lack heating completely. To make the Docking Station Capillata and Creatures 3 Ark suitable, a set of patches will be required to raise up the heat level; even lacking these though, TWB and TCB Creatures can still be safely kept in the Norn Meso.

The heating patch for the Capillata can be found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/creatures3/mods/4

Besides temperature requirements these Creatures are quite capable of looking after themselves under most circumstances, the exception to this are newly hatched Creatures. TWB/TCB hatchlings are more fragile than the hatchlings of other genomes and cannot navigate to food through scent, so require food to be nearby to them. Other exceptions include specialized breeds - Carna Norns and Draconian Norns are obligate carnivores and require a steady supply of edible critters and bugs to survive, while Toxic Norns as detrivores require detritus in their diet or they cannot cultivate the precious microbes they need to digest other foods. On the other hand, all Thistlefern Norns need to survive is moist soil and sunlight.

For best population health, ensure toys and food sources are spread evenly around the environment and not overly abundant in any one area, and encourage the consumption of fruits over seeds. Fruits contain vitamin C which is vital for a healthy immune system but they are less effective at satisfying carb hunger than seeds; you will quickly see who has been refusing to eat their veggies when an infection starts to spread around the population.

The added chemicals and what they do

Body Heat (110) - Represents a Creature's internal body temperature and is naturally produced as a product of the mitochondria. A body temperature that rises too high leads to organ damage, while a temperature that drops too low can cause organs to temporarily shut down.

Deoxygenated Hemoglobin (220) - The protein that picks up oxygen from the lungs and carries it in the blood, it is produced in bones and broken down when blood supply is ample.

Oxygenated Hemoglobin (221) - Oxygen carrying hemoglobin, gives up its oxygen to the muscles when needed, reverting back to its deoxygenated state.

Platelets (215) - Clotting factors produced in the bones, will act to seal up wounds and prevent bleeding.

Phagocytes (216) - Immune cells that seek out and destroy foreign antigens, though the battles can have some quite unpleasant symptoms. Requires vitamin C to be produced.

B Cells (224) - Dormant immune cells ready to differentiate into plasma cells at the first contact with foreign antigens. Also requires vitamin C to be produced.

Plasma cells (225-232) - Specialized immune cells which produce antibodies to counter specific antigens. They can stay in the blood system for a long time after an infection, continually producing antibodies for a lasting immunity.

Pulp (20) - A gooey mix of protein and vitamin C usually found in fruit.

Fetal Tissue Transfer Hormone (16) - Signals a pregnant mother to give up some of her protein stores for her unborn offspring.
