Blade & Sorcery

This was both my first project in Unity and first mod for Blade and Sorcery. I had a pretty strong understanding of what my vision was but certainly did not know enough about Unity or BaS to make a well optimized map set. That did not seem to stop some of you from trying it out anyway and I appreciate you very much. I have spent the last year hanging out in the BaS discord and learning as much as I can. I put map making aside and focused on my modelling skills and getting a strong foundation with the BaS elements. With the arrival of U11, my attention finally returned to this map set.

I made some design choices, deciding to remove the outdoor area with the black smith from the Ford Inn map and move it to the Luxury Suite map. While the Luxury Suite was an okay little home, it did not have any real value for most players. The change required adding a second door to the Suite and altering the stairwell in the courtyard to accommodate the new door. Since U11 brought us functioning doors, this worked out quite well. I've posted some videos of the new Suite map. They are still a little dark as lighting was one of the aspects in biggest need of an overhaul. I'm getting close to being done there, trying to keep a night-time feel without making it too dark to see.

The new SDK has allowed scripting illiterates like I to add features we could not before. My desire to have the forge be a little more interactable is now possible without having to beg a scripter for help. The kind scripter Neeshka is working on a forge script for me, but for now I wanted to use event linkers so should it be feasible to port to Nomad, I can. Holding a weapon in the forge near the top will pass a fire imbue to the weapon if it is able to accept it. Put an item too deep in the coals though and it will be despawned. If the player or an NPC enter the coals, several fireballs will launch, causing damage and fireball smoke effects. AI without increased health will typically die instantly. I added a water barrel near the forge that will remove a fire imbue and create a steam effect. As time goes on, I may try to make the bellows interactable as well so pumping it a few times might make the fire imbue be stronger.  Some holders have been added to the Smithy for tools to sit in the rack(there are still MMP random spawns).

The Ford Inn. One of the things I wanted to do here was make the antlers removable from the wall. You have to get things just right to use them on the mantle, so being able to take them off the wall should make for some more creative interactions. Lighting has improved a lot here as I learned what I was missing. I still get lag spikes in specific areas. I am forever learning. Once I know the cause I will certainly rectify it. Attempting to make the rain barrel interactive in the small courtyard. Still need to learn more about joints to fix up the chandelier. I did add a few more lengths to lower it a little. In time my goal is to replace all railings with breakables.

Event linkers have also allowed me to control, without scripting, the spawn location of the player so doors that connect between the 3 maps will spawn you on the other side of the door you used to enter the map (most of the time...might still be some bugs). The method is still a wip and will not hit public for awhile.

Westmeet Square itself is getting a big overhaul as it was always a placeholder map giving a little more room to roam over the close quarters nature of the other maps. I don't have much to say here yet. I did create another map off of this called the West Gate (the gatehouse entrance to Westmeet Square). It's layout consists of the gatehouse, the river edge and the bridge. Super crude at this point.

There are a couple other maps in the set sticking with the tavern theme of the Ford Inn

A rival public house to the Ford Inn sits within Westmeet Square. While it does not have rooms for rent, you can get a decent meal at a fair price. The Black Pig is a two level tavern with multiple rooms, stairwells, balconies, a courtyard and an alleyway. It is in the very crude stages with not much beyond a floor plan and some rope based lanterns fleshed out. There is a high chance the Black Pig will take over the textures of the Ford and the Ford will get an upgrade.

Built into the walls of the Old City stand the Bastion. A once grand guard house, now heavily run down, has turned into a tavern the locals call the Scorpion's Nest. A towering 3 story structure with an "open floor plan" allows for plenty of climbing, jumping, swinging and sliding. It is rumored the basement holds a safe house but you didn't hear that from me. Explore a little and you may unlock her secrets. Only a fool leaves secrets unguarded though...
(If you behave, I'll share some images of the Bastion here for those of you that are not on the Discord)

I'll add to this document over time.
