"Always Detect" gives you the option to extend "detection distance" beyond sensor range, for the AI, human players or both. You (or the AI) will not be able to sensor lock such units outside normal sensor range, but you will see them as diamonds on the map. By default, only the AI detection range is changed, so this is just an AI buff in this mode.
The mod.json file contains settings for maximum detection range, which is by default set to "infinity" for the AI and 0 for human players (which means behaviour is unchanged, sensors still work normally).
With these settings, you will enter combat mode immediately, and the AI will immediately approach you. There is no possibility of taking your time sneaking around a map to get the perfect initial attack position on the AI. If you want the same advantage as the AI, set your own detection range to "Infinity" as well.
The mod write any errors it encounters to the file harmony.log.txt on the desktop. If you set Debug = true in mod.json it will write even more information which may be useful to look at if the mod isn't functioning as expected.
