Works as of October 9, 2023. Even with other mods installed
For anyone with issues: if Shift-click on the skills tab in barracks does not work and you're sure you've installed it properly with modtek, try modifying your load_order.json found in your .modtek folder found in the mods folder to have this mod lower in the list of mods in the .json file
example load_order.json
[ "Random Mod Name Here" "Soft Experience Cap or any random mod that affects pilot skills and the barracks screen", "Random Mod Name Here", "Retrainer", ]
I'm just using Soft Experience Cap as an example because it was the mod that made Retrainer not work for me until I changed the load order to have Retrainer lower in the list
I picked up this game since i had the game pass and was wondering if this mod would work for it, I heard that most will but not all. Tried installing but it doesnt show up.
I know its been a long time since you posted this, but pinging you in case you still have interest and you never got it going. Please see my response to Nyrva.
It needs to be installed in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\Mods directory instead. You can right click on the game in your steam library, go to manage, then browse local files. There should be a Mods folder in there. If that does not work, then you might need ModTek first, which is a light weight mod that forces the game to look in the steam apps battletech folder as opposed to the other one. Download Modtek form https://github.com/BattletechModders/ModTek/releases (current version as of September 2021 is 0.7.7.7). Once you unzip that and place it into the mods folder, run the ModTekinjector file one time and you are good to go as far as all mods requiring Modtek are concerned. Also, confusingly so, there is a .modtek folder that is preloaded in the Mods folder. Just let that little guy exist in harmony.
Other random issues you might be having: 1) Most of the modders are zipping files with 7zip. If you unzip one of those with Winzip, it can cause errors. Luckily, 7zip is a free download. 2) If you already have ModTek, make sure that its folder is named exactly "ModTek" but without the quotes. 3) If your versions of mods and the game itself are all up to date, you have ModTek and its folder is named properly, then go into the .modtek folder and delete the cache and database folders. Delete all mods in your mods folder as well, redownload them and unzip them with 7zip.
It did work in Battletech 1.81 for me with Modtek 0.76, but it stopped working since Battletech 1.9. Tested with the games new Mod support and Modtek 0.77. The Popup for Retraining appears and asks for my money, but nothing happens if i choose to retrain (i also keep the money).

I set mine to

Not for exploitable purposes, just in case I make the odd mistake somewhere.
