About this mod
I believe that the current implementation of a number of weapons may not be quite as balanced as well that they could be. This mod makes modest changes to address the issues.
Use only what you want, changes are divided into submods. So if you only want adjustments to LRMS, you don't have to also use the changes to the other weapon types.

I believe that the current implementation of a number of weapons may not be quite as balanced as well that they could be. This mod makes modest changes to address the issues.

My issues with the design of LLs and PPCs at present:
1. This game seems to generally favor medium to short range combat due to map design and very short visual range.
2. The ratio of weapon ranges to mech movement means that a mech at long range can easily close that range in very little time.
3. The heat generation to damage/tonnage ratio makes them generally inferior to other available weapons.
4. Placing even two of said weapons will requires an excessive number of heatsinks to compensate for.
5. Far more punishing in hot environments where other weapons may simply require a bit of care.
6. I've seen AI (especially in hot environments) seemingly deliberately cook themselves on many occasions. Perhaps this will help.
7. The game rewards the player with easy kills for stacking large numbers of medium to short range weapons which vastly out damage LLs and PPCs in most commonly encountered situations.
8. And quite simply, they aren't as fun to use as they should be.
My issue with Long Range Missiles:
1. The amount of stability damage they do is excessive. Mech knockdowns are just not that common.
2. LRMS are not supposed to be so accurate, making them overly so naturally introduces an imbalance.
3. The game seems to not consider the mass of a mech for how much stability damage it takes, so a 100 ton mech goes down just the same as a 25 ton mech.
4. Precision strikes are, in my opinion, a bit too powerful in this game and gives incredibly accuracy to weapons that are generally inaccurate or at the least not focused so as to commonly strike the same location. Such as missiles.
Note: Depending on the circumstances, this change may actually increase the difficulty of the game by making it more difficult to knock down enemy mechs, depending on how much you rely on this effect. This is compounded by the fact you are almost always outnumbered, so be aware.
These are minor adjustments that I believe provide a better experience. Please let me know your thoughts on the changes.
What this mod alters:
Large Lasers & PPCs
Release 1
Large Lasers and all variants
Max range: 450 to 500
Cost: 140,000 to 150,000
Heat Generated: 30 to 24
PPCs and all variants
Max Range: 540 to 590
Cost: 180,000 to 200,000
Heat Generated: 40 to 34
Release 2
ER PPC
Heat Generated: 50 to 42
Large Pulse Laser
Heat Generated: 40 to 32
Medium Lasers
Pulse Laser
Heat Generated: 20 to 16
ER Medium Laser
Heat Generated: 25 to 20
Small Lasers
ER
Heat Generated: 15 to 12
Pulse
Heat Generated: 10 to 8
The heat changes are not massive on their own, but enough to make more of a difference when than one weapon is installed. So while the heat generated is only reduced by 8 for a single large laser, two unmodded large lasers will generate 60 heat, while modded they will generate 44.
Long Range Missiles
An approximate 25-33% reduction in all LRM variants stability damage.
Installation:
Note that verifying your Battletech Steam files will undo the changes made by this, and probably most other mods. Game patches may undo some or all changes as well. For other sub files (such as the LRM changes) the installation instructions do not themselves change, just the names of the files.
Method 1:
(optional but a good idea if you use other mods or have made your own changes)
Make up a backup of the following 23 files located at: Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\weapon
(Sort files by name to make them easier to find)
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_1-Diverse_Optics.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_1-ExoStar.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_1-Intek.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_2-Diverse_Optics.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_2-ExoStar.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_2-Intek.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_2-Magna.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaser_3-Magna.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaserER_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_LargeLaserPulse_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_1-Ceres_Arms.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_1-Donal.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_1-Tiegart.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_2-Ceres_Arms.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_2-Donal.json
Weapon_PPC_PPC_2-Tiegart.json
Weapon_PPC_PPCER_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_MediumLaserER_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_MediumLaserPulse_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_SmallLaserER_0-STOCK.json
Weapon_Laser_SmallLaserPulse_0-STOCK.json
(The LRM mod files all start with "Weapon_LRM" and there are 36 in total)
Make a folder somewhere named BattletechWeaponsBackup or whatever you'd like and copy the files to it.
Method 2:
(fast and easy)
Copy all files from within
Battletech-Minor-Weapon-adjustmentsR2.zip
to
Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\weapon and overwrite
Uninstall:
Method 1:
(easiest, but not a good idea if you use other mods that you want to keep using or have made changes to the game files yourself)
Verify your Battletech Steam files. This will undo all changes made to the game files by any and all mods and revert them back to the default specifications. This will not delete any extra files, if any, that weren't installed by the game that may have been created by you or another mod.
Right-Click Battletech on the Steam games list
Select "Properties"
Select "Local Files"
Select "Verify integrity of game files..."
Method 2:
(fastest)
Copy the files you backed up during Installation Method 1 back over the modded files at: BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\weapon and overwrite.
Please do not upload this file anywhere else, I fully intended to maintain it as long as I believe it's needed, I can't upload patches to other places I don't know exist.
