What's the point of the large pulse laser (55 damage, 7 tons, 25 heat) when I can find large laser++s much more frequently, for 1/4th the cost, that do 55 damage, 5 tons, 20 heat?
Even a basic PPC does +5 heat but weighs 1 ton less, which basically means you can add in a heat sink and now you have +2 heat but you get stability damage and the interference penalty. Hell if you use a double heatsink you come out ahead.
EDIT: lol and the PPCs do heat damage now? On top of 20 stability damage / shot? And more damage? This is nuts.
I like your changes, I'm doing a personal rebalance aswell and for PPC's I've added a base 15 heat damage (25 for ++) but removed all instability damage. I have also reduced heat generation to 30, damage to 45 and tonnage to 6. This way it becomes an utility weapon with a good tonnage/heat/dps ratio (I'm rebalancing most stuff with 5dps/1ton) and also complement the Flamer as a long range heat builder. We already have missiles and ACs to deal with instability. I also agree it makes more sense in general, as high currents do not really cause any meaningful impact damage but rather short-circuit/fuse electronic components, which is exactly what reaching the maximum heat treshold does in this game, IE shutdown. For sniping purposes I've simply raised to 60 Large laser's base damage and reduced heat generation to 24.
Hmm i hadn't thought about viewing PPC's that way but its certainly interesting . as it is right now with my changes PPC's do retain their instability DmG , i rationalized it myself as it's essentially a projectile kinda like an *energy bullet* or something along those lines . But i do like your idea for making them into a Utility weapon , i suppose with all the LRMs flying about already , causing Stability DmG isnt really hard to do The main issue i personally had with alot of energy weapons is that Medium Lasers >> everything else . Mechcommander is really my main inspiration for making them all at least viable and to give more options and letting people mess around in the Mechbay some more But also to make PPC's truly dangerous again and worth using , in Mechcommander an AC/20 was stupidly dangerous ( as it should be ) and so was the PPC or the Large Laser .
I see, I'm kinda new to the Battletech lore so I'm not really sure how most weapons should "feel". I referenced to CBT rebalance as it's almost identical to TT, but some weapons felt incredibly lackluster nonetheless, hence I gave it a little twist. I totally agree (as 99% of the players out there) that medium lasers are too good, but that's only true as long as other weapons sucks! As for bringing PPC up to dangerous levels, you could explore a couple options, like trying that AOE effect on the weapon's json file. I have yet to try it and I hope it only deals a fraction of the damage, but having the PPC deal damage to multiple body parts in a single shot could prove very beneficial used along both missiles (for added armor peeling effect) or ACs (to go through weakened body parts). Last but not least, there's the option to shoot multiple bullets in succession... having it deal something like 25x3 damage would increase its dps without becoming overpowered against single parts (unlike the friggin AC20). No idea if that goes completely against lore fluff tho, being a warhammer fan I know it has quite the value :)
