Ever feel bad for never paying the indebted who's fought by your side for so many battles? Now there's a solution! This mod adds a new 'freedman' background which indebted have a chance to convert to after reaching level 11.

Version 1.0.0
Initial upload.
Adds a new 'freedman' background (cannot be recruited). In vanilla, if an indebted has at least 50 kills upon reaching level 11, their background will change to freedman, granting them +10 base resolve and giving them a wage (base wage is equal to that of a militiaman). In Reforged, the restriction on kills and the bonus to resolve are removed, but this background change will only occur if the perk "Promised Potential" is changed to "Potential Realized".
Balance-wise, this probably comes out to a slight nerf to indebted in vanilla and a larger nerf to indebted in reforged. They'll lose the beneficial indebted effects of not losing morale upon non-indebted dying and always being content in reserve, and gain a wage. In exchange, they'll gain resolve in vanilla and be eternally grateful to you, their commander, for granting them their freedom.
