Overhaul of how the Talents work in the game, without breaking vanilla spirit.

Mod Description:

At generation:
  • Bros now can have more than 3 Talented Attributes.
  • Each bro will be created with between 4 and 9 Talent Pool Points, which will be distributed between Attributes.
  • Talents now go from 1 to 5 stars!
  • For each Attribute, there will be a 45% chances to get 1 Star, 25% chances to get 2, 15% chances to get 3, 10% to get 4 and 5% to get 5, until the Talent Pool is depleted (maxed out at 9 points)
  • Each negative starting Trait will give the poor Bro +1 Talent Pool Point, making up for the disavantages of these Traits, and so making strongly flawed Bros actually viable options. (+1 to min and max values, so you get a guaranteed Talent Point and get a chance to go over the 9 maximum Stars!)

Talents effects:
  • Changed a bit the Talents impact on level up values:
  • 0 stars gives normal level up values (for example: 2-4 for HP Attribute. See here for the complete list)
  • 1 star gives +1 to Min value ( 2-4 => 3-4)
  • 2 stars gives on top of that +1 to Max value (2-4 => 3-5)
  • 3 stars gives on top of that +1 to Min value (2-4 => 4-5)
  • 4 stars gives on top of that +1 to Max value (2-4 => 4-6)
  • 5 stars gives on top of that +1 to Min value (2-4 => 5-6)

Veteran levels:
  • Up until level 30, veteran level ups will also benefit from high Talented Attributes:
  • Base is 1-1 gain to Attribute (=> +1)
  • There is a 5 x NbStars % chances to get a 2-2 gain to the Attribute (5 Stars = 25% chances) (=> +2)
  • If Bro has 4 stars, he also have 25% chances to gain +1 to the max value of the roll (=> 2-3)
  • If Bro has 5 stars, he has 50% chances to gain +1 to the max.
  • After level 30, normal veteran levels applies. (+1 to all Attributes)

The effects of this mod is that Talents have more impact on the level ups, even after reaching veteran levels. It also enables some new kind of builds, like good all-around characters, or really focused ones. It also makes the bad Traits less disappointing, because you can get some good compensation.

Known issues:


Some starting or event Bros of some scenarios have fixed Talents repartition, so they won't be affected by the new system. I preferred to let it be like that to avoid mod conflicts, but that could easily be changed in the future, let me know if you think it should be the case.

Install:

Just drop the .zip file into Battle Brothers/data/ directory. No need to unzip.

Requirements:

 mod_hooks must be installed.

Conflicts:

Should conflict with other mods changing how the talents work (fillAttributeLevelUpValues and fillTalentValues in entity/tactical/player object)
Shouldn't conflict with anything else.

IMPORTANT: you should start a new campaign to be sure that the mod doesn't bug your level-ups. It MAY work with existing campaigns, but not sure.
