Tweaks to the Way of the Four Elements subclass to try and make it stronger.

Way of the Four Elements currently feels kind of weak. You run out of Ki Points fast if you want to use spells other than Fangs and some spells, in my opinion, should be learned by default rather than taking up precious spell slots when you get new ones. I don't know if they will buff the subclass in Patch 1, but for now I made some tweaks to try and make it a bit stronger. If something needs dialing back I will see to make changes. I expect it should still be weaker than Open Hand monk, especially STR Tavern Brawler.

Note: You will need to respec if you are already playing Way of the Four Elements to get the changes.

Changes

  • Get 1 additional Ki Point at levels 6, 9 and 12.
  • Shaping of the Ice (ice box) will now be learned automatically at level 3. Also converted it to a Bonus Action.
  • The 3 new level 11 spells can now be learned at level 9 instead. Level 11 will just offer 1 new spell.
  • Improved Elemental Casting passive will now be learned at level 8 instead of level 9.
  • Changed Touch of the Storm and Chill of the Mountain to be learnable spells at level 4 and 5, effectively making them like cantrips with 1 Ki Point cost. Reduced damage bonus from Improved Elemental Casting to 1d8 instead of 1d10.
  • Clench of the North Wind, Embrace of the Inferno, Gong of the Summit (new level 6 spells) will now cost 2 Ki Points to use instead of 3.
  • Ride the Wind, Mist Stance, Flames of the Phoenix (new level 9 spells, old level 11) will now cost 3 Ki Points to use instead of 4.
  • Optional file to allow Way of the Four Elements spells to trigger an Extra Attack.
  • Optional file to fix various items not working with Way of the Four Elements spells.
  • Optional file to add new spells to Way of the Four Elements list (more info below). You must load this after MonkFourElements_Tweaks main file!

Optional New Spells

Note that the changes for spells are only for the Monk abilities, regular versions of these spells are unchanged.
You must load the NewSpells optional file after MonkFourElements_Tweaks main file!
So it should look like this in load order:

Spell names are changed to 5e names, or something I came up myself for spells that don't exist for Way of the Four Elements on 5e.
Right now there is only English localization for the new spell names/descriptions.

  • Fire Bolt - 1 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 4 or 5. Deals 1d12+4 before level 8 and 2d12+4 at level 8+.
  • Earth Tremor - 2 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 3+.
  • Erupting Earth - 3 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 6+.
  • Wall of Stone - 3 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 7+.
  • Stoneskin - 3 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 7+, self-cast only, changed from long rest to 10 turns.
  • Ice Storm - 4 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 7+, 2d6 bludgeon + 3d6 cold at level 7 -> turns to 2d8 bludgeon + 4d6 cold at level 8+ (old 2d8 bludgeon + 4d6 cold).
  • Lightning Bolt - 4 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 7+, 4d6 at level 7 -> turns to 5d6 at level 8+ (old 8d6).
  • Wall of Fire - 4 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 9+, reduced the radius slightly and damage to 3d8 (old 5d8) per tick.
  • Wall of Ice - 5 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 10+, reduced damage of wall to 5d8 (old 10d8), ice cloud remains same.
  • Cone of Cold - 5 Ki Points cost, learnable at level 10+, reduced damage to 6d8 (old 8d8).
  • This will also give you the option to learn a new spell at level 7 and level 10 respectively, thus adding +2 available spells to the subclass.

Recommended to install mod with BG3 Mod Manager

Uninstallation: Before uninstalling the mod it is recommended to respec to another class and make a new save.
