About this mod

Base files for game text overrides. This is for both modders and non-modders, for anything that requires a localization base file to function. I've also made a modder's guide on how to make compatible mods, which I've linked to in the description. Includes all available languages.

Patch numbers for the base files are listed in the file name! Please choose one that matches your game version.

The files provided on this page are actually base files for my game text edit compatibility method—they're not mods in their own right, but a base file is required for certain mods function, like my Be Nice To Wyll mod. The base files are just the original .loca files for a given language, taken directly from the game, and are completely unedited. However, they're still required for mods using the compatibility method to properly override individual lines of text!

I decided to put the base files on a separate page just, for my own organization purposes, but also so people can link to them as requirements a bit easier.

You can find a modder's guide to game text edit compatibility here!

A note, though: other mods that override the entire localization file for a language, like Overexplained Interaction Options actually function as base files! You don't need any of these files if you already have a mod that replaces the original localization file—any mod that requires these files can use other mods like OIO as a base instead, and the overrides should still show up in your game!

If you're not using one of those mods, though, you can use my base files, or make one of your own. Instructions for making one can be found in the modder's guide above!

Install instructions:

If a mod you want to download requires a base file, go to the Files tab and look for the file patch and hotfix number for your current game version and language. The patch and hotfix numbers are formatted like this: P = Patch, H = Hotfix, and the numbers following are the the specific patch and hotfix. So, as an example, if you're looking for the English .loca base file for Patch 6, Hotfix 24, look for the following file name: English Base - P6 H24. If you're looking for the Latin American Spanish base file for Patch 6, Hotfix 25, look for Latin American Spanish Base - P6 H25, and so on.

(I don't actually have any base files for anything before Hotfix 25 at the moment, though. I didn't upload any before updating to Hotfix 25, and can't really go back and test the ones I previously extracted now 😅 I don't feel comfortable releasing any files without being able to fully test them, so unfortunately that reference to the English Base for Hotfix 24 is, just an example of what to look for, not a file you can actually download.)

Download the file for your game version and language, and install the base file by dragging the Localization folder included in the .zip file into your BG3 Data folder, which can be found here:

\\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\

I'm planning on keeping as many versions of the base files up as I can; I know there's a lot of people who hold off on updating their games for a variety of reasons, and I want to make sure you all are covered. I can't guarantee I'll be able to update the base files for every patch/hotfix however; I'm in grad school and the hotfixes have been coming pretty quickly, and sometimes it's too late to update to a certain version by the time I'm able to check my game. I'm going to do my best to keep the base files current, though!

If I'm not able to update the base files in a timely manner, though, absolutely feel free to do so yourself! Instructions on how to make a base file can be found in the modder's guide linked above.

As always, let me know if you have any issues, and enjoy!

(By the way, if you like my work, tips are welcome!! You can do so through my ko-fi here: https://ko-fi.com/herotune

It's the same ko-fi I use for my art, but I'll never paywall my mods. Thanks for taking a look, if you do!!)
