About this mod

Replaces the Song of Balduran in the Elfsong Tavern completely, with three songs and six different options available. Available songs include a cover of Ghost of the Tavern from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, the original version of it, and the instrumental version of I Want To Live from the BG3 soundtrack.

Made for Patch 6 - Hotfix 19, Working with Patch 8, but can probably be used for Patch 5 and its hotfixes (it just overrides two music files; no code has been touched. Proceed carefully, but you should be able to safely remove it if any issues arise).

Are you, too, an insufferable nerd who was frustrated that the song playing in the Elfsong in Act 3 is in English? Do you, too, wish we'd gotten an updated version of the original Elfsong from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for this game?

Welcome to my most self-indulgent mod to date!

I realized while making this mod that it might be fun to do a cover of the original Ghost of the Tavern song from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, so that's what I did. And I'm really happy with how it turned out!! Now you can have a new version of an old, familiar song for your game (if you'd like)!

If not, I've also provided files for the instrumental version of I Want To Live from the BG3 soundtrack, shortened slightly to fit within the time the original Song of Balduran plays. That song is already used as camp music in other points in the game, so it shouldn't feel too out of place.

And I've now provided two versions of the mod with the original song from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance if you'd like, too!

You can listen to my cover here, which is what's included in the mod:

(Please keep in mind that if you're using a version with my cover, this mod has the added side effect of making the Elfsong ghost a gay man, just, by nature of using my singing voice. If that bothers you, you don't have to download this! Please just, be kind about it, though.)

This mod replaces both versions of the Song of Balduran that play in the Elfsong Tavern camp. Because yes, there are two, which is part of why it's so repetitive 😭 I don't think those files are used elsewhere, but they will replace the song anywhere it shows up if it does. If it replaces it somewhere you don't want it to, please let me know! The mod only replaces those two versions of the Song of Balduran, it does not override or edit any other files.

These are the files the mod overrides:

Data\Public\Shared\Assets\Sound\52778681.wem
Data\Public\Shared\Assets\Sound\946960729.wem

Any mod replacing those files is also replacing the Song of Balduran. If a mod replacing the song also has other features, you may be able to keep those features and use these replacements instead, but I'm not sure if any mod like that exists. If you run into one, let me know, and I can see what you'd need to make it work!

A note about volume levels:

It seems like the first song in the Elfsong Tavern music playlist is coded in the game to be louder than the second version. This may have been done to compensate for the fact the audio levels of the second song itself are louder. And, while this works for the vanilla game's files, this affects my mod.

It's especially apparent in versions of this mod that use the same audio file. Even though the files are identical in these versions, the one replacing the second song is noticeably quieter. Since this seems potentially baked into the soundbank file itself, I might not be capable of changing it at the moment. It requires replicating BG3's soundbank file structure in the program Wwise, and, while I've tried to get new soundbank files working for other mods, I've not been successful yet. If anyone has any advice regarding this, I'd be very grateful for the help!!

There might be solutions other than new soundbank files, which I'm looking into. I may also try and compensate for this by making alternate versions of the songs with different audio levels, and replace the second song with a slightly louder version, but for now I've just lowered the volume for my replacements overall a bit (the first song in the playlist was a bit loud, and the vocals for my cover had to fight with the dialogue a bit more when it replaced it.)

Another note:

If you're having trouble with the vocals for my cover fighting character dialogue, I recommend using Option B for this mod. Since it replaces the second song in the Elfsong Tavern camp music playlist, it's a bit quieter by default. You might not have an issue with using Options A or C, though! It's all your own personal preference. But Option B might mitigate the problem if you're having trouble with the vocals competing with character dialogue as well.

OPTIONS AND INSTALLATION

I've provided six different options for the mod, each with a different combination of the available songs, based on the fact the game plays camp music from playlists in the game's code:

Option A - Ghost of the Tavern > I Want To Live: Replaces the first song in the Elfsong camp music playlist with my cover. More likely to play when first loading a save in the Elfsong Tavern camp. Replaces the last song in the camp soundtrack playlist with a shortened version of I Want To Live (Instrumental version) from the BG3 Soundtrack. May take you a while in camp to hear it. Both the first and last songs in the Elfsong camp music playlist are versions of the Song of Balduran; no other songs will be replaced.

Option B
- I Want To Live > Ghost of the Tavern: Replaces the first song in the Elfsong camp music playlist with I Want To Live (Instrumental version). More likely to play when first loading a save in the Elfsong Tavern camp. Replaces the last song in the camp soundtrack playlist with my cover. May take you a while in camp to hear it.

Option C - Ghost of the Tavern x2: Feed my ego. Replace both versions of the Song of Balduran with my cover.

Option D - I Want To Live x2: Replaces both versions of the Song of Balduran with a shortened version of I Want To Live (Instrumental version) from the BG3 Soundtrack.

Option E - My Cover of Ghost of the Tavern > The Original Ghost of the Tavern: Replaces the first version of the Song of Balduran with my cover, followed by the original version of the song from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.

Option F - The Original Ghost of the Tavern > My Cover of It: Replaces the first version of the Song of Balduran with the original version of the song
from Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, followed by my cover.

I've now provided both PAK and loose file versions of the mod. Install the PAK versions with BG3 Mod Manager. Install the loose file versions by dragging the Public folder in the .zip file into your BG3 Data folder, which can be found here:

\\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\

Only install ONE version at a time!

Let me know if you have any issues, and enjoy!

By the way, before you go, please check out these resources I've compiled.

I do link them on pretty much all my mod pages, but considering everything going on in the world, I wanted to highlight them. Please, do what you can to help, and take care of yourselves, ok?
