Drato this stinks. Looks like this mod is abandoned and now with the Advanced Spells release you could have made all the staffs spell addons as well and fully integrated the entire staffs into the game.
I was just looking into starting up playing BG3 and messing around with this mod again. I've been away from the game and very busy with work and life lately. I'll have to look into this Advanced Spells things you're speaking of.
At level 12, full casters have 1 lvl 6 spell slot and 2 lvl 5 spell slots. The first staff here lets them cast a lvl 6 spell three times or a lvl 5 spell 4 times. Seems a bit broken. And that is before adding a shield’s worth of AC and a saving throw bonus and +2 to spell attacks.
Essentially, this thing is worth like 5 item slots.
Doesn’t matter if it’s a 5E item, it’s still way overpowered. Clearly in BG3, and also IMO quite clearly in pen and paper, especially if you give it to someone at lvl ≤12.
Its a pen-and-paper, very rare mage item. Of course its ridiculously powerful. There are three issues with your complaint however;
1: This is literally a canon item, as has been said. You're projecting a personal issue with 5e game balance in an entirely inappropriate place. There has literally been playtests with moderated feedback - go spout there.
2: This mod introduces an item at a pre-existing power level. There are literal god-mode 'cheat' mods out there, where are your complaints there? Or are they allowed to make the mods they want?
3: While overpowered, these staves would barely rate top 10 magic items in BG3, purely from canon items. There are way too many nuts items already in the game for these to pose any legitimate issue.
You posted back on Feb 23rd, and came back to repost a response on March 30. I think the copium for you is real. All I ever see on mods I enjoy is you posting your "Two sense" telling people what they should and shouldn't be doing. Your high horse is really up there.
Yes you do. Deny it all you want but yes you love to tell people how to mod, what to do with there mods, and to give your "two senses"(get over it) on modders stances on things. Your coping mechanism is very strong. I only replied now because I have seen you doing this all over the place on mods I enjoy. I really dislike people like you with a passion. Go post on reddit at least there you can cope with similar people. Also the fact you keep notifications on posts tells me you are the coping type.
I was just looking for a mod for BG3 to have it's own version of the Staff of the Magi from the older Baldur's Gate games. The Staff of Power is pretty damn close! Thanks for the mod.
Hi have you thought about a way to make this mod compatible with Randomized Equipment Loot. Having played that mod, it is truly a godsend and removes most of the complains people have with item mods (them being unbalanced early) well it's solved, you can't even get them early, period. They are randomized and spawn someplace else later in the game.
So yeah, food for thought, because it would be amazing!
Also there is a mod on here for Dispel Magic, and UnlockLevelCurve to get up to 7th level slots on lightning bolt and Fireball. If you were worried about that implementation.
Oh and Rarities of the Realms 5e is doing something similar to you here. I love D&D 5e magic items finding there way to mods.
EDIT: After looking at it, it will take some serious work to get that Spell Absorbtion working, but it might be a cool challenge. However, the sheer volume of spells on the real Staff of the Magi will cause the tooltip of the staff to run off the screen. So, it might have fewer spells and the Spell Absorbtion feature on it. I can certainly take a look because that mechanic is very cool.
I never had to use the Spell Absorption in any of my games when I had this staff. I mainly relied on my Absorb Elements, and shield to avoid things. The concept of the staff is just something I always loved. Plus a work around for the setup that I saw someone do with a Holy Avenger on here. They made it have a Counterspell, and the counterspell they edited into the blade would give you charges / enchantment modifers to radiant damage depending on how high the spell it counterspelled by using your own Spell slot level to add to that. They said "Due to BG3 limitations this was as close as I could get to Holy Avenger Carsomyr."
Edit: Forgot to mention he swapped out that mechanic and just made an "Aura of Warding" effect for the blade after a certain patch broke his sword's mechanic lol.
Holy Sword Carsomyr in case you wanted to see this mods coding setup for what he did.
I was curious is it possible to hide the spells so they don't go over the tooltip by doing what Larian did with Kereska's Favor? By hiding them behind like your "Power Attunement" And once you activate it it would appear in the small side bar like this. Small tool tip here I feel like this would let you add all the stuff you wanted without that issue.
Yes. I made a personal decision to make it a level 2 spell and exclude Ray of Sickness. Having that many spells on an item causes the tool-tip on mouseover to run off the screen.
Hi! These staves look super cool. I see that 5e spells is a requirement; is this a hard requirement or will one or two spells just be missing without it? I've been avoiding 5e spells mostly because of the impossibility to uninstall it (which I understand is due to the way the game works and not the mod itself but it still makes me wary, lol)
You would be missing Erupting Earth from the Earth Myrmidon summon, otherwise nothing else would be affected. There is a very high chance in the future that other staves will include other 5eSpells, but for now it's just the one.
I find them very cool, also the vanilla game ia a bit stingy with staves. You can't decently play another wizard or soverer, if you want to have Gale -not- running around with his starter equipment till the endgame. :P
So thanks you for this mod. :)
I find it kinda rude of some people to come here and comlain. Ifsomeone doesen't like the mod, just don't use it. ;)

It is literally an item from the 5e DMG, not some whacky homebrew.
But hey, you do you.

But at least I’m not straw manning or whatabouting.
#1 is about your attitude toward someone who simply did something that offended you.
#3 addresses the 'balance' issues that seem to concern you
Ignore #2 as you like, the rest however are objective.
So many mods that you know, you don’t need to f*#@ing use, have people like you on them making irrelevant comments.
Go. Away.
