-Added the ability to replace your racial cantrip at level 2. YOU MUST CLICK THE MULTI-CLASS BUTTON FOR REPLACE SPELL TO SHOW!I do not know why it works this way but that was the only way that worked. You can cancel if you wish and replace will stay or continue with the multi-class.
-Added vanilla files under MISCELLANEOUS for players who simply want to re-roll their racial cantrip while keeping INT as the main spell casting ability! YOU MUST CLICK THE MULTI-CLASS BUTTON FOR REPLACE SPELL TO SHOW!
WHEN YOU CLICK MULTICLASS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CANCEL AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE CANTRIP. If you wish to keep the same cantrip simply ignore that and fire the spell between lvl 2-3 and again for 3-4 to test. Check the combat log. If it says anything other than your old casting modifier, it should be updating. Let me know if this doesn't work!
Any chance of getting this updated for Patch 8 please? Trying to use it with just the Mod Fixer dependency enabled I get error "Failed to load the game menu from the current game mod RacialCantripModifierHighElves". There does not appear to be any current method in Patch 8 to resolve this issue.
How exactly does this work? I.e. do I need to have the mod installed perpetually? Or does it modify the game save so I can make the change and uninstall? I take advantage of the cross-save capability of the game so I can split screen with my wife / just relax and play on the couch. So, I'm wondering if I can make the change and then still reap the benefit on the same save on PS5?
Would your mod be compatible with this mod that adjusts some stats of the cantrips? If it's partially compatible meaning it is dependent of the load order, would I have your mod load before or after it?
Looking at it I don't see why not! I would test it with my mod below his since mine is race specific and comes first on character creation. But if you get any issues then try his below. Mine just give you the ability to respec the racial even after you start while changing it's casting modifier. Either way let me know how it goes for science!
So far I am not seeing any compatibility issues. The only issue I found is that at times, it acts like it registered the change in cantrip and then when I get out of the level up screen (9 levels later), it's still in the spellbook and the new one I grabbed is not there. So the workaround was that I needed to make sure I level up to level 2, make the relevant choices and then exit out of it before proceeding to level 3. If that was the intended function and you did document somewhere that is the expected behavior of the mod, then I apologize for misunderstanding it.
EDIT: I did see this and I am a visual learner. I can read it but I won't understand it until I see if for myself.
WHEN YOU CLICK MULTICLASS, REPLACE THE SPELL IN THAT SCREEN!!! It will stay even if you go back and don't see it anymore.
When I go into the Multi-classing screen, I do see the Replace Spell screen but I don't interact with it, I cancel out of multiclassing and the Replace Spell option then appears in the Level up screen of the original class. It lets me select it, and then I just go through all the levels. But it doesn't actually take. I even did it as you wrote it here. by replacing it in the Multiclass screen first, canceling it which makes me go back to the original class and I proceed with the rest of the levels = still does not keep my change. I literally have to do one level and when it is ready to talk about level 3, I exit out of the screen and that is when it takes my change. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So mind you that explanation is only for when you reset your class. So when you swap you class you select what you want then it backs out. Next level up will be 1-2. If you WANT to change the racial cantrip, you instead click multiclass and select anyclass which will bring up a swap menu. You pick your current cantrip and select your desired one, hit accept then it backs out to where you see the selected mulitclass. You then hit cancel multiclass as if you decided you didn't want to multiclass. Level up normally from 1-2 and confirm to go to the next lvl up screen. You can back out to check your racial was swapped. I just checked and it worked as intended when switching from Wizard to Sorc. The racial changed and scaled with CHA isntead of INT. If you need more help add me on discord! @wuusensei
Does this work with the mod which gives all racial cantrips to every race? like for example- Eldritch blast as High Elv- will your mod change it's modifier to int?
Beggers and choosers, I know ... but is there any way to just have them use the highest spellcasting modifier of that character? Then, theoretically, you'd only need one file/mod. It'd just always choose the best.
Hello, I love this mod. It is about time someone made this, even if the implementation is not perfect. I have a question though, I would like to use this mod with the racial cantrip respec mod https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2480. When I try to combine both mods, the cantrip respec mod stops showing any available cantrips for replacements during respec screen and replacement UI is shown (check cantrip respec mod short tutorial video). So I'm pretty sure it stops recognizing cantrips after their spell casting ability is changed. I feel like a compatability patch or mod merge is feasible here. Please research and let me know if possible.
I updated it to let you respec the racial cantrip at lvl 2 with your spell casting modifier still good! Let me know if it works on your end tho because you have to click the multiclass button to enable but don't actually have to multiclass. You can cancel after clicking it or continue!
Was confused why it didn't work together but must be a progression thing so just added the 2nd level progs for each of the 2. So ty for the suggestion!
APPRECIATE YOU! <3 If you have other ideas let me know! Been experimenting with other QoL like fixes and what not while working on my class. Will be a bit though.
Thx! I am using the 2in1 INT - WIS. I added the extra just in case anyone wanted 2 cantrip selections instead of 1 and I just re updated everything a bit ago after realizing I could allow you to replace the racial cantrip so esp good for SH or Astarion! You just have to click the multiclass button on your lvl 2 level up screen and the replace spell button appears then just click cancel or continue if thats the class you want!
Thanks for answering, but I'm not referring to the one you modified, but to your list of mods...because in the image you uploaded of the list of cantrips, there are quite a few more of the basics of the game
Hey good call! Forgot most authors credit the other mods. I have 160 ish but had more then than now so. Removed the pic with the extra mods since I don't even have those anymore. Just added a credit to 5e homebrew pf2e and frostblade cantrip!

Changes the spell casting modifier for racial cantrips.
Do not use 2 of the same race files together.
Do not use with mods that change or alter progressions for High Elf or High Half Elf!
*UPDATE* 1.2
Fixed the double movement range.
Added 4 optional files that give you 2 racial cantrip selections rather than 1.
Feel free to request custom adds!

It should now scale your racial cantrip with your highest attribute!
If you respec, the original cantrip will still scale off whatever attribute was highest before respec UNTIL you level up and replace it.

Let me know if there are any issues!!! ENJOY!!! :D
