Not sure if I have the knowhow to try this, but wanted to see if I can acquire help or at least some insight into the feasibility of trying this out...
So, I've never liked that our Vampire Spawn was just an ordinary rogue with bite. I always felt it was lacking, especially when the Gur tells a well armed party to watch out for the vampire spawn as it could "ki!! you all". So I would like to see someone make a class for Vampire Spawn and hopefully they see this and take some of my suggestions. Being a fan of the Anne Rice - Interview with a Vampire style I'd like to see an aristocrat styled Vampire Spawn class that provides the following...
Unarmored
Charisma and Dexterity modifier
Spells
Lure
Confuse
Invoke Hysteria (or aoe fear effect)
Paralysis
Read Minds
Shadow Step
Stealth
Heal - Only on self
Darkvision
Focus on Unarmed attacks - Unarmed attacks do Necrotic Damage and Slashing Damage (claws) causing the target to bleed once per round
Swipe - Inflicts necrotic and slashing damage causing the target to bleed.
Flurry of Claws - 2 (or three) strikes inflicting necrotic and slashing damage adding stacks of bleed (albeit making the bleed damage increase with every stack)
Bite/Feed - Necrotic and Piercing damage causing target to bleed in the beginning and end of the round - Stacks (so the more they are bitten the more they bleed out); 1d4 return of health
Inflicting a penalty on movement, damage, and saving throws that stacks with every bite to the target
Targets under effects of lure or paralysis are automatically critical strikes
Bite causes an aoe taunt motivating all enemies to focus on you unless you succeed a stealth saving throw
Attacks can benefit from Tavern Brawler Perk
Now for the balance...
Necrotic Resistance
Immune to diseases
Fire vulnerability
Sunlight vulnerability
-2 In sunlight
+2 in Shade
(not sure if this can be done) Silver vulnerability - any attacks made against the spawn by a silver weapon automatically crit.
Armor of the target determines the level of damage of bite, swipe and flurry;
Unarmored - Full Damage
Light Armored (chest) - 90%
Medium Armored (chest) - 75%
Heavy Armored - 50 %
Constructs - 0%
(on bite only) Biting Undead causes Piercing damage but no bleed and inflicts a penalty on the attacker
Feeding on an undead inflicts a -2 penalty and/or 1-3 necrotic damage until long rest or feed on a living target
Failing to 'Feed' once per longrest results in a -2 penalty to player (after all vampires need to feed)
Once feed -2 penalty negated.
If a target is fully drained +2 buff
**Tinkering with the idea of subclasses called 'Dark Gifts - Body': a vicious brawler type with increased push/throw damage; buff to melee abilities; extra action / 'Dark Gifts - Mind' : a psychic powerhouse which adds psychic damage to lure, confuse, invoke hysteria, paralysis; increased self heals; and adds spell levels to the CCs to allow the vampire spawn to target multiple targets** As I said I wanted to see more of an Anne Rice styled vampire, one that has strengths along with weaknesses. This build is essentially a merge between a Way of the Shadow Monk and a College of Lore Bard. I'd love to figure out how to make this class myself so if no one responds I'll be "working on it" - which is to say I'll be playing russian-roulette with my PC and my pre-novice mod coding abilities.
To the author - thank you for taking your time to make a guide it was really helpful and I learned a bunch of new stuff.
To others like me who want to make their own class and have 0 knowledge - unfortunatelly it's not a "full tutorial" and you won't actually be able to make a playable class of your own with this. It's more like a general tutorial on how to use some modding tools and make an empty dummy "class" which has no starting abilities, no passives, no starting gear, no level up progression <<< this one is important because it crashes the game on level up, since game tries to load something that doesn't exist. I'd image there's plenty more things like that down the line. There's no explanation how to make a complete class. Like you need to do 1, 2, 3, 4 and the class is bareboness but fully functional and you can play whole game with it with no issues. A lot of stuff seem to be missing.
The author also made a mistake himself at 3:25 of the video he copy/pasted a line, doing so causes a crash on start up. I saw he was notified of this in the comments but never changed the tutorial. So I ran into this problem after following his guide to a letter. He mentions it causes a crash if you change the value, but it crashes due to this whole line since I assume it's an empty reference. The file which author attached with his own new "class" also is not a class that can be played and the game will crash on start up for the reason I mentioned above.
tl;dr Incomplete tutorial, result of following the tutorial is a crashing game. But still can be usefull to learn some things, most of the stuff we'll need to figure out on our own. Including how to actually make a new class.
yeah there is supposed to me a lot of missing, this is just a guide to how to make the class, no subclasses, passives, gear, spell, etc. this is just the start. on his youtube vid, he has a link to github which explains the rest, he willl make the next vids on how to do the rest over time, according to his comments, so if you want to work ahead, go read up and try. good luck and have fun. also, patience lol
Thanks for the feedback. As MannieFresh mentions (and I mention in the video), this was an introduction. I posted only the files that I edited because the author of the class template mod did not grant permission on their mod to reupload their (unedited) files, which I did not (all this code was available open-source from the Github BG3 Community Library). I have learned of the leveling issue and posted a fix in the comments on the Youtube video (pinned comment). Youtube does not allow smaller creators to upload updated versions of their videos, so that is the only fix. I will post a video showing how to resolve that issue shortly, along with an exciting tool that automates mod making to make resolving bugs easier.
Yea I didn't think I was gonna even try modding till this tutorial. But I am super motivated now to try and make the nightblade class from pathfinder 1e and try to implement it. If you could make tutorials on like all the other folders and how to make subclasses that would help alot. I also want to make a custom fetchling race if you'll ever do a race mod tutorial. If you'd be willing to Dm on like discord or something if I have any questions about something I'm not getting would you be able to help? If not it's cool. Just figured I'd ask.
BTW For every aspiring modder or adept modders looking for what class to include next, there's this spreadsheet that shows which official dnd class exist but are not actually present in baldur gate and which one have a mod to include it: BG3 Subclass and mods

Would you consider to make one for custom race?
