This comment section is very messy. Here's a few things that are either general replies or notes before posting:
When the game updates the UI in a patch, it will break UI mods. I have added the patch 7 version ahead of the update this week. I have also added a misc file to allow saves to continue after patches drop.
Patch/common issues deserve their own section, so I've added one below.
Common misconceptions - This mod doesn't affect dice rolls, access to magic mirror, action/spell icons, and story elements (entering/exiting dialogues/cutscenes). All of these (apart from action/spell icons) are potentially due to missing Story Fix/Mod Fixer, problems with the save/mod load order, or not up-to-date, among many other reasons why. This comment section isn't for general mod troubleshooting.
Reporting an issue - Please provide more than just "It's not working" because I can't do anything with it. Something wrong visually? Take screenshots/video. Using other mods? Then share your mod order.
It seems that some people have been spreading mixed messages about requiring Story Fix/Mod Fixer, so I'm just going to put it here. The game added a partial recompile during the initial release of patch 1. This was removed in less than 24 hours. Some mods already have the fix within them, some mods dont need the fix. Starting new saves with only ImprovedUI added to mod order requires a full recompile that is triggered by using Story Fix, even if Script Extender is installed. If no mods are added to mod order, Story Fix isn't required.
Apparently some people have extracted the loose files for this mod, or mod this way with other UI mods. Just use the install instructions and pak your UI mods so they can be managed.
This mod updates the UI elements only (what is shown on the screen). This does not add or change features within the game.
UI modding in BG3 has its limits - if another mod overwrites the same files, this mod would not work fully. This includes Customizer's Compendium and Full Release Mod Fixer.
Half of this mod does not have an immediate impact on the game, but would be required for current/future mods that use the UI changes. This doesn't help in highlighting what the mod does fully. A video will be done eventually
Controller UI is difficult to improve without overhauling more than just the UI. Controller improvements are planned ahead of console mod support.
I'm not going to be able to respond to every comment, but I do read them. I'm active on the official Larian Discord and there's a channel for BG3 mod support.
Patch 7 - Available on Nexus, is also available on Mod.io or BG3 mods page
Patch 6 - This will not be updated going forward, but will always be available to download on Nexus. Please delete patch 6 or earlier versions before launching patch 7.
Potential issues with patch 7:
REMOVE ANY SHADERS OR OTHER MODS THAT AFFECT THE GRAPHICS WHICH HAVE NOT UPDATED FOR PATCH 7. Don't blame me for issues outside my control.
Warning that isn't going away about mods not updated after saving - it's a Larian modding issue (not amending the list of mods linked to the save file), I'm unable to replicate, you can still load your saves just fine. There are ways to extract the save data mod list and remove the mod entries from it, but I won't endorse it here as it's unsupported.
Remove any older versions, that's both "ImprovedUI" and "ImprovedUI Assets". Patch 7 is just one file - you don't need an "Assets" file any more, because its functionality has been replaced by both changes to the UI made by Larian and the new custom action resource process. You can run those old patch 6 saves without ImprovedUI, it's fine. However, I can't guarantee the same for other mods from patch 6, especially ones that made gameplay or cosmetic changes.
Put ImpUI patch 7 above any other UI mods in your mod order. Yes it's not an override, an "official" mod cannot be an override. It's more likely for other UI mods to overwrite this mod and stopping its functionality: Oversized icons/portraits missing etc are all issues stemming from outdated mods that overwrite ImpUI but wouldn't have taken effect in previous patches because ImprovedUI overwrote them. Since ImpUI cannot override to be an official mod, the only fix is to remove the culprit(s). Start by removing any mod/shader/loose files/etc that hasn't updated for patch 7 yet (including mods with different names for the mod fixer file other than forcerecompile.txt) - they would need to be taken out of your mods folder not just uninstallled since the game reads all mods in the mods folder (even if they are disabled)
There are some features that are not included in patch 7, see differences on the main mod description. The most noticeable is the pop-ups, it's impossible for "official" mods and would cause issues with being able to receive the new mod pop-ups that appear in-game. An "unofficial" version of this mod would be required.
Common issues (not updated for patch 7):
The latest version of this mod is designed for the latest version of the game. If you're using an older version of the game, you'd need an older version of the mod (which would be unsupported) and vice versa, updating the game requires updating mods. This mod contains multiple lines of UI code from the base game to implement changes in certain locations, and when Larian changes their code, this mod has been updated to mirror their changes. This has included multiple line-by-line reviews to ensure parity with the base game.
You have another mod overwriting this mod. Any mod that overwrites this mod is obviously unsupported. This goes for any other overwrite mods that affect the same files as ImprovedUI. This is especially problematic if those mods are not updated. Keep an eye out for "ImprovedUI Compatible" versions of other UI mods. In BG3MM, mods that overwrite base game files are highlighted in red, you can identify affected mods by hovering over the red ones and this will list the files/sections that are replaced in the "Overwritten builtin folders" section.
You have an issue with your modding setup. I would recommend using BG3MM to setup your mod lists. This comment section isn't for general mod troubleshooting.
You have an issue with your game. I can't fix base game issues, issues with saves and issues with your installation.
Hi! Having some trouble getting this update it with vortex and in game mod manager. Not really sure how to bypass the glitch or fix it? I click update and it loads and does not actually update for some reason. Have tried removing and adding many times. Any help would be great! Thanks!
It says there is an update available. But I do not see where to download it. Also None of the mods are working on my game currently. I am not a modder like you Author here or like anyone here who makes mods. I had disabled everything reinstalled the game and so fare the problem persists adding mods. Even with the mods active none of them show up.
You are right, but I and hundreds of other users would be grateful for the return of "ImprovedUI Assets" in patch 8, there is no hope for the author of the mod.
Anyone have any idea why any of the patch 8 subclasses, along with the opportunity attack tooltips just say "not found"? It happened when I used the updated version, and then went away when I switched to the slim version of the mod, but then came back after a few hours of gameplay.
An update, I don't think it's either version of this mod anymore. I started from a fresh install again, and did not see this issue occur in testing with only ImpUI. I am unsure at which step of adding more mods it occurred again, but I think it's safe to say it's not this mod, or it is a conflict with this mod due to another one.
EDIT: Found the culprit; https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/2582?tab=description
Ahh apologies, am unsure then. I can only confirm that that mod causes the glitch on a fresh install. I could not isolate any other mods causing it. I am certain it is not ImpUI now. Since in this case it was something editing the dialogue, do you have any other mods that affect localization files, perhaps? Check those.
Lots of misc issues posted here that are known bugs in Vanilla. For example the missing/invisible icons. Try the fix here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BG3/comments/1k0hvfg/patch_8_bug_my_hotbar_icons_are_all_invisible/ %LocalAppData%\Larian Studios You type this in in the run prompt (windows key + R), press enter, then go to the Baldur's Gate 3 Folder, then the Mods Folder, then delete all the mods in there. Start the game, without the mods, create a new game Add your mods back as you normally would (Personally, I moved all the contents, and later moved it back but you may need to redownload mods if you have continued issues)
There is also advice below, from "D1ENASTY", about mod issues in general... Try deleting your modsettings.lsx file. Sometimes updating to ImpUI Patch 8 this file doesn't update properly. Path should be Local Disk/Users/(your user)/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public You will see 2 files. modsettings.lsx and a back up delete both of those. Then boot up the game with your new load order and start a new game. A new modsettings.lsx will be created --- For missing ability text, or the 'NOT FOUND' error, try the steps here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1fb8iza/fix_for_not_found_text_in_the_new_build_in_mod/ steamapps/common/Baldur's Gate 3/Data Delete "Localization" folder Verify integrity
After Hotfix 30 I lost all preview pictures in Charakter Creation and Mirror. I have alot of Blank fields. Maybe somebody have an idea.. Before I dont use something like Hair mod or similar... Now I try to use and the Problem ist still except for the new Hair choice
always test and see if the problem persists with and without Impui(you will have to update your modsetting.lsx each time) Bibsan version generally doesn't work(for me) be that via clean install redownload of whole game or you name it it just loves to stick to early access start screen and begin an infinite loop of coming back to that page instead of starting a new game. The Slim version, buggy as it is, I never heard it makes character creation thumbnails go away. You might have a conflicted mods situation.
Only the Patch 8 slim file works for me When I try to use the Patch 8 CC fix file I get this weird opening sequence and can't open any of my saves, or even start a new game. I don't know what the problem is. I updated all other mods that need this mod, and I have the mod at the top of my load order, but I can still only get the game to work with the Slim files I don't know if it's the mod, or the game, or something I'm doing wrong.
Try deleting your modsettings.lsx file. Sometimes updating to ImpUI Patch 8 this file doesn't update properly.
Path should be Local Disk/Users/(your user)/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public

This has worked to start a new save for me, HOWEVER, i have not been able to load any previous saves using the Patch 7 version when updating to Patch 8 CC. So i have resorted to keeping a separate mod of patch 7 ImpUI to load with that older save.
@D1ENASTY thanks for following my recommandation, I felt like I was going crazy with the number of people who seem to ignore this kind of thing
Recommandations:
PC: Don't use multiple mod managers to manage your mods, choose one and stick with it as much as possible
PC: If you are using an external mod manager such as BG3MM, do not skip any software updates to your mod manager or you risk having broken load orders and broken `modsettings.lsx` files
PC: Vortex mod manager is not recommanded
PC: Start fresh and delete `%AppData%\..\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\modsettings.lsx`
PC: Delete the contents from folder `%AppData%\..\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\LevelCache`
PC: Delete all your mods from folder `%AppData%\..\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods`
PC: Delete all your mods from folder `%AppData%\..\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Local Mods`
PC: Don't forget to enable & deploy your new mod list, it should create a new `modsettings.lsx`
All Platforms: When a new update drop for Baldur's Gate 3, it's cleaner to re-download the game from scratch (because sometimes, when the game is updated, it keeps old update files from old version of the game and this makes the game unstable)
All Platforms: ImpUI should be one of the first mod in your load order
All Platforms: Do not use old saves from before patch 8, more specifically modded saves, start with a fresh new playthrough once you have reinstalled ImpUI and your mods for Patch 8
All Platforms: Do not use UI mods that have not been updated for Patch 8 in addition to ImpUI
All Platforms: Do not update your mods in the middle of a playthrough
I don't know if anything can be done about this at this point, but I thought I'd toss it out there...
I've been getting a "Missing MetaData" error that seems to be related to ImpUI. It pops up all over the place - three times or so when I first load into a game save, twice when I first switch focus to each of my party members, and occasionally when I move the cursor over random elements on the button bar.
I'm not a coder or modder of any sort, so I really have no clue what's going on, but here's a screencap of the error message in-game:
Hmmm ... I've been getting this same error ... and as you've proposed the first solution, I'm gonna try what you did and reinstall it.
It did not go away after disabling it ... but now I will try and reactivate it, and see if that makes it go away (as you say).
Those "missing metadata" popups don't crash the game but they are annoying.
Huh, now I think I *may* know the source of the problem. It did not show in the in-game mod manager, but my external mod manager showed TWO ImpUI's installed. One was 2.1.0.82 (with the CC/slim) ... the OTHER was 1.5, which was underneath. I deleted the 1.5 version. Crossing fingers.
Yes deleting the "duplicate" older ImpUI file in my external manager seems to have made these popups go away. Folks, see if you've got two versions of ImpUI ... you will not be able to see this in the in-game manager, but the duplicate will show up in an external mod manager. Nuke the older duplicate.
I just want to verify - if you installed the new "slim" ImpUI through mod.io, it doesn't appear to remove the older 1.5 ImpUI, you MUST delete the older one in an external mod manager.
I did, and those missing metadata popups went away.

Patch 6 - This will not be updated going forward, but will always be available to download on Nexus. Please delete patch 6 or earlier versions before launching patch 7.
