About this mod

One difficulty to rule them all. Simple. Hard, but not too hard. Just right.™

Permissions and credits
Update 1.1: Changed xp curve based on vanilla internal limits (max 200k xp) this will cause a much slower leveling process which will likely not conclude until the very end of the game. Old versions still available if you want to reach max level at the same time Larian intended (early act 3) but I find leveling too quick in Act 2 trivializes the content.

Only works on tactician mode. New game highly recommended. Existing saves should toggle tactician off (confirm) and back on to experience results. Additional enemies or xp increasing mods not recommended. Tested and balanced on a mostly vanilla game.

Incompatible with other difficulty/level curve mods (if they change the same thing/overwrite each other)  Example: Tactician Plus, Level 20 mods, any xp curve mods, uninstall them before installing this. Optional modules that change camp supplies required for long rest are okay. If you have mods that alter loot tables, you might want to load them above this mod when using level 20 versions (otherwise vendors might not have gold at level 13+)

What it does:

  • Moves tactician away from unfair to balanced
  • Slows leveling

BG3/DnD is already very well balanced, the flat buffs of tactician mode are lopsided and quickly negated by the party out-leveling content.

Leveling is too fast, making even standard tactician feel easy. (we've all felt that level 5 hump) Instead of adding health or hit chance to enemies, this mod works simply by slowing the player down, which goes a lot further in making each combat feel more impactful and skill-rewarding.

Vanilla tactician gives enemies +2/+2 attack rolls (chance to hit) and +30%hp. This mod removes the extra health and gives everyone +1/+1 (enemy and players) this is obviously more balanced and highlights the raw stats of each character, player and enemy alike.

Versions (choose one)

MAIN- As described above, this is the recommended version. Makes the game hard, but not too hard. Just right.™
Everyone +1/+1 +0%HP

HARD- Because people will inevitably claim it's too easy for them, restores the exact same stats as vanilla tactician but retains slower leveling.
Enemies only +2/+2 +30%HP

THE VERSIONS BELOW ARE NOT RECOMMENDED, UNTESTED, UNAPPROVED, NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

NIGHTMARE- Hopefully you have god-mode mods or something. No one should be asked to beat this in a legitimate playthrough.
Enemies only +3/+3 +50%HP

IMPOSSIBLE- Seriously, just don't even try.
Enemies only +8/+8 +100%HP

Each version comes in max level 12 or 20 variants (player level) depending on your preference. While using level 20 variants, you should never level to 12 in a single class until your last (20th) level. i.e. level your main class to 11 then subclass until level 19 and take your 12th level in your main class at level 20.
