Downloading for my next playthrough. I'm guessing this wont be compatible with the interesting origins mod https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/9359?tab=files (I've never poked around with origin background mods before beyond that one) but I'm really looking forward to this one. Having all of the origin characters with their own unique background is going to be a nice change.
Your reasoning for the changes you've given them is logical, but loading Halsin with so much Act 1 stuff feels like odd timing. Getting him anything there is going to require deliberately skipping things in order to backtrack later, and a few might actually be impossible even with playing out of order. I know he's a problem child for something like this because he has like... no story once he's recruited (because recruiting him is the reward for finishing his story), but there's probably still some more naturey stuff he could flag on in act 3. Helping Jaheira make a choice about the Timeless Body spell, telling that rat in Rivington to rise up against the oppressors, idk.
Karlach's Avernus flag I'd also argue with, slightly. In tabletop inspiration is not necessarily a reward for doing things your character would like, so much as for doing things that are in-character and help to move your PC's story forward. I often use it as an outright bribe to get my players to do something stupid like trusting someone who they (the players) can clearly see is an enemy but they (the PCs) only know as an old friend, or whatever. In that light, the Avernus inspiration makes perfect sense. Karlach doesn't want to go to the House of Hope for sure, but it's probably the most story-relevant place she could go in the whole game. And going back and not immediately being dragged away by Zariel is an important experience for her to have on her survival path.
Also to be clear this is f*#@ing amazing and something I've wanted since the moment custom inspiration was first cracked. Instant download and thank you, very much, for your work here.
I made changes with the character in mind, removing goals I felt didn't fit them, substituting them with what I think did.
Reasons Below:
Spoiler:
Show
Minthara - Her Oath of Vengeance is tied to undoing the Absolute's influence, and I believe Ketheric is part of that. I was unsure about Minthara's Refugee Donation change (she sees validity in well-fed labour) but I wouldn't consider her inspired by it.
Karlach - I don't think she'd be inspired to return to Avernus, in fact she's very vocal about not going back. It also felt odd that she gains no inspiration for finding a Soul Coin, despite them being for her, and why would she want to regale via noblestalk?
Minsc/Jaheira - I don't see why they'd be inspired from interactions of an act they weren't part of. I decided to give a couple tasteful callbacks and Minsc-isms. Most don't recruit Minsc until later, so I shifted the inspiration goal posts.
Halsin - I don't think most of Halsin's inspirations fit his character at all other than Background name. I gave him inspiration goals tied more to his story and ideology, why would he gain inspiration from essentially necromancy?
Lae'Zel/Wyll - I restored some Early Access goals as they fit them like a glove, and Soldier inspiration is a little lacking in Act 1. Can't imagine Lae'zel lying about Arabella's parents, considering her character, you should gain inspiration if up-front about it.
For those untouched, I think they're generally quite fitting already. I didn't want to step into overhaul territory (yet), so thought I'd differentiate them just enough from base backgrounds.
Quick question. You mention Origin Customisations Unlocked to be incompatible, would I be right to assume that Appearance Edit Enhanced also would be incompatible?
