It does though? As you just can't use booming blade anymore during the same action. As currently implemented though, it does trigger the extra attack (or you can use it as the extra attack if the first attack wasn't a booming blade). So the mod itself is actually still useful.
Yeah, Booming Blade triggers extra attack in the sense that it counts as an Attack, BUT now the base-game gave it a ''once-per-action'' cooldown so you can't use it twice in the same turn (but you can, for example, use Booming Blade and then do a normal attack in the same turn if you have Extra Attack).
This mod was intended to prevent you from being able to do two Booming Blade in the same action with Extra Attack (which is overpowered), but since now there is a special cooldown base-game it's technically no needed for that purpose. BUT it is true, as @WheezySpaceCow said, that if you want Booming Blade to not interact with Extra Attack AT ALL, then you can still find use in this mod.
"UPDATE: This mod seems to no longer be necessary as Booming Blade now has a ''Once-Per-Action'' cooldown in the base game. I'll leave it published in case this is ever needed."
Yes. It's in the game right now, I've seen it myself. That's relevant in the sense you can't use Booming Blade twice per action with Extra Attack anymore in base-game, even without this mod. But if you still want this mod so Booming Blade doesn't even trigger Extra Attack (leaving aside its cooldown), then you can still find use in this mod.
i understand the purpose of this mod since booming blade seems just better than shocking grasp for melee spellcasters but removing the extra attack you also remove sinergy with arcane acuity or other things that stacks with attacks. Why not just reduce the bonus damage that is added to the melee attack?
Arcane Acuity was one of the strongest boosts in the game before Patch 8 and it still is, it doesn't need Booming Blade to work with Extra Attack at all to do what you are saying. For example, using an Eldritch Knight with Mourning Frost and Reverberation gear each of your normal attacks will inflict multiple statuses and Arcane Acuity at the same time.
The reason this gets called out and nerfed it's because, unlike what I mentioned before (which still kinda broken), Booming Blade doesn't even require a build to ''be OP'' when it works with Extra Attack. It's literally like a mini free Paladin Smite, guaranteed on every attack that ALSO (unlike normal Smite) interacts with every single cantrip/elemental boosting item in the game, which there are a lot of.
i didn't say booming blade NEEDS arcane acuity or the opposite I said that removing the extra attack removes also the arcane acuity build on that character removing an entire extra attack is a huge nerf to everyone. There is no point to use booming blade anymore. The Extra attack is better, unless you are using a bad weapon and/or you character doesn't already have and on hit damage from any source, a thing that is very hard in the second part of the game.
Of course two attacks from a Martial Class are better than a SINGLE CANTRIP. That's how it should be. Booming Blade exists for control (or access to Thunder damage if you don't have it) assuming there are no other factors at hand. Booming Blade was always meant to bridge the gap between casters and melee classes, not be the superior choice in either. Booming Blade should only be comparable to making two attacks if you actually put the effort to make a build around it. Having two Booming Blade per turn (on top of all the item buffs) without any effort or thought behind it is overpowered and not only becomes the META but also the only thing you should be doing because it is SO far ahead than anything else. This nerf doesn't take away from build variety, it literally adds to it.
If you think there are no reasons to use Booming Blade with this nerf, it means you weren't really using it properly before and were just taking advatange of how it was insanely better than every single other option instead of actually building around it.
Thunder is literally the best element in this game, because there is a ton of equipment (like most of the Reverberation set) that synergizes with it.
You want examples of how to use Booming Blade, even with this nerf:
Hexblade is literally one of the strongest classes in the game right now, with innate melee scaling with their spellcasting modifier allowing them to have insane accuracy and damage with melee attacks at the same time they boost their cantrips with the multitude of magical equipment in the game
Wet status on target, so now receives double Thunder Damage.
Storm Sorcerers work perfectly with it.
Eldritch Knight War Magic
Reverberation set
Thunder set
Bladesingers got screwed by Larian removing their unique Extra Attack that enables them to use a cantrip and THEN and attack (vice-versa) as part of their Extra Attack feature. Mods like my Bladesinger DnD 5R Changes solve this and restores that functionality.
Evocation Wizard's Potent Cantrips and Empowered Evocation
Having the Booming Blade BUGFIX installed so it's actually tagged as Thunder so it is properly detected by magical equipment makes it insanely scalable, with the most powerful items in the game being often interacting with Elemental Damage or Cantrips: Ring of Elemental Infusion, Ring of Spiteful Thunder, Necklace of Elemental Augmentation, Potent Robe, Gloves of Belligerent Skies, Hat of Storm Scion's Power... Even without the bugfix (that will be fixed by Larian eventually) it works with plenty of items.
There are ton of options to make Booming Blade good. Extra Attack interacting with it just made it OP. Booming Blade has been in the community for a long time too, from the famous 5e Spells mod. And guess what? The 5e Spells author made Booming Blade NOT work with Extra Attack from the beginning and no one had an issue with it. And now that Larian released this new version of Booming Blade, the whole community is talking about Booming Blade+Extra Attack is the new meta and it's broken without even trying. Hexblade and equivalent multiclasses are all the talk now because of things like this.
One minor nitpick, the Wet condition doesn't buff Thunder damage, it buffs Cold and Lightning. But yeah Booming Blade is still incredible even with this fix.
Great mod ty! Found it as i was trying to find if anyone managed to fix bound hexed weapons not getting extra attacks when you have pact of the blade :Y-

Has this been confirmed?
