Doesn't seem to work currently, maybe due to all the updates since August. It just removes the default music, but nothing replaces it. All you can hear is all the ambient sounds from rats, bats, and such.
I was looking also to make a mod but use another music not from the game, but when I face .wem format I just giveup ... So asking here, maybe some experts on that stuff, is any way/trick to replace music/any sound from the game with a custom sound?
I'm pretty sure its dependent on wem format. I have converted a few songs like caramel dancen and it works well in the main menu :D . So custom outside music is possible Wwise and FUBAR, but I agree, quite a hassle.
With these tools, you can do exactly that, Use Multitool to extract YourDrivesName:\Games\Baldurs Gate 3\Data look for sharedsounds.pak Use Foobar200 to listen to the WEM. sound files you wish to replace all you need is the string or index the "numbers" of the files now once you have the soundtrack you with to replace copy the name of it and rename the soundtrack you wish to replace it the one you've downloaded from wherever and converted to WAV. now import that to Wwise (needs to be a wav file) convert them from mp3 to WAV. via online
Once in Wwise import the soundtrack then on the right-hand side you will see a heading called "Project Explorer" Below that you will see sub-headings you want to look for "actor-mixer hierarchy then "default work unit" Use the arrow to drop down the tree of that heading and you will see the name of the soundtrack you have just imported.
Once here double click on the speaker index bearing to the right of your soundtrack and you will be presented with a window with tabs, you want to navigate to the "conversion" tab you will then see "default conversion settings" and a box with an arrow merged to it. bearing to the right, click on that.
You will be presented again with another window use the scroll and pan right until you see "format" this is very important otherwise music will not work in-game change that value to WEM-OPUS, done
finally, now convert the soundtrack or soundtracks you've imported. they will save here C:\Users\$$\Documents\WwiseProjects\Custom Tracks\.cache\Windows\SFX
when you open Wwise it will ask you to create new project so remember the name of your project to find it in Wwiseprojects folder.
You can use my Mod as a template and just drop the converted files into the sounds folder it will just replace the songs you've chosen to replace.
Thank you again for a great guide, it worked. I manage to replace the music from menu with my own custom music (its a main menu theme ost from Diablo IV) I could upload it here but not sure about permissions/rights stuff, and my mod probably will be banned asap (blizzard ...), thank you really!!!
Thanks all for the nice comments. I hope you all get to grips with replacing soundtracks and most of all have fun
Note: When replacing a song make sure to replace it with a song that has the exact or less playtime but not too far between just a rule of thumb for smoother transitions if you replace for example a 1.26s piece with a 3-minute song game will cut the track at 1.26s and it will take 10 plus more seconds for the game to play another soundtrack and sometimes the wait is longer.
you can edit your tracks with software like Audacity and export to wav. and then import to Wwise.
another tip: when you extract shared sounds sort by size to make it easier to navigate songs instead of sound effects. songs start from 100.1KB
Can there be an optional alternative to replace the character creator music with this one? I love down by the river but i'd prefer something without singing like this
Here are some file names for various down by the river tracks, replacing one or couple of them might do the trick: 976652416.wem (Vocal no lyrics) 388742447.wem (main song with lyrics) 422031485.wem (no vocals) 520508916.wem (orchestral, probably exploration, no vocals) 858397309.wem (probably exploration, orchestra at the end)
You specified that there is 4-5 songs playing during the character creation, if you have the numbers (file names) for that songs could you share them here, please
