Ain't upcasting Smite beyond LVL4 redundant in vanilla?

As a modder, you need to maually add the ability for it to be casted for each spell slot or the game won't let you use those spells slots with the spell. That's what it means that it's upcastable. Multiclasses would run this issue otherwise.

If you use this along with my Paladin and Oaths DnD 5R mod (and the corresponding optional file that makes both this and that mod compatible) then upcasting beyond lvl 4 keeps increasing damage following DnD 5R's new rules, making this even more relevant.

Hey great mod! I really like the idea of your Oathbreaker mods.
If it doesn't cause you much trouble, could you add an additional effect against Humanoids?
Blackguard mod has the effect for it's unholy smite but I think it fits with this mod too.

Again thanks you for this mod, I really appreciate your work!

Hello. Yes, I was thinking of adding an additional effect to mirror Divine Smite's.

But extra damage against Humanoids is overpowered in my opinion, as most enemies (and also the most powerful) are humanoids most of the time.

What I think is more fun AND balanced is: +1d8 Necrotic Damage against FRIGHTENED targets, which will combo with Oathbreaker's Channel Oath action Dreadful Aspect.

You can make it  so that when the character hit by the smite dies, it comes back as a zombie, thats what i did at least and its pretty cool as it sinergises with your fixed aura of hate.
You can add a saving throw for the status to apply or only being revived if killed by the paladin itself.

Yes, I do agree that would be much fun than just simple extra damage against Humanoids!
      Thank you!

Anyone know if this works in patch 8? I'm waiting to upgrade to 8 till all my favorite mods are confirmed to work or announced to be 8 compatible....

Doesn't the name sounds weird ?
    Are oathbreaker atheists ? lol

Maybe Chaotic Smite or treacherous/treasonous smite ?

Hey there, great mod for more immersive oathbreaker gameplay I love it and I believe everyone in the community thinks the same.

On the other hand there is one thing I miss from original smite :(
When you set the reactions for it you only get the level 1 unholy smite and not further levels unlike divine smite that scales from level 1-6, since it doesnt consume a spellslot when you miss I guess is not a big deal, but for dual wielding I can only land unholy smite level 1 with my offhand, if it doesnt trouble you could you see if there is any way to change that?

And also, could you add an additional effect like the divine smite having extra attack against undead?
Like a 1-4 or something additional necrotic against bleeding targets.

Again thanks you for this mod, makes oathbreaker subclass more fun to play with.

Hey, you are using the version 1.0 (at least that's what NexusMods tell me you last downloaded). What you are saying was a bug that was already fixed with updates. Try updating the mod.

Oh ok I understand, thanks a lot for the fix.
Could you consider an additional effect against frightened or bleeding targets? Just like divine smite has against undead.

Yeah, I'd like to have an overlay version as well. I've always felt like Oathbreaker using Divine Smite was not suitable.

      Thanks a lot!
Will this mod get an optional file so it has the secondary action cost and Evocation Spell tags in sync with 5r's Divine Smite?
I'm using the 2024 Spell Updates, which has completed the Divine Smite version.

That's a much more in-depth balance change than it seems.

I think such a change should only be part of a bigger ''Paladin DnD 5R Changes'' mod that includes the whole package so it more or less remains balanced.

I understand that. But it seems that no one in the community has completed a standalone 2024 paladin mod.
The author of 2024 Spell Updates in modio seems to be planning to do this, but you seem to be completing some 2024 work, which includes some paladin changes.
Do you have any plans to implement paladin2024? Or are you considering not re-completing the work of another author?
Of course, I personally prefer your work :)

I am considering making it, as I really like Paladins. I was thinking of waiting for the Patch 8 to release first though.

There is one thing that help me make it faster. Could you (or someone else) perhaps give me a ''feature list'' of all changes made to Paladin compared to the old paladin? That way I don't have to make a list myself. What I need is a specific list detailing the changes made (not just a simple feature list, I already have that with the PHB2024).

I'm just still considering though, not sure yet.

Of course, maybe waiting until patch 8 is released to complete it might be the right choice.
I'd be happy to do the job, but I'm new to modding and may not necessarily be able to accomplish the exact needs of your desired list.
Maybe you can guide me on how to complete it on discord, or send me a list you have completed so that I can learn from it.

You don't really need to be a modder or know anything about modding. I just need someone to write a list in text that enumerates the differences between the old Paladin from 2014 and the new one from the PHB2024, including any differences in the subclasses' features. So I can use it as reference when designing my mod.

I have already implemented all changes to all smites and the changes to Lay on Hands and Channel Divinity/Oath.
