YESSSS. i was so disappointed when gloom stalker didn't have auto invis in this game. Awesome mod. Can i ask you to release full passive invisibility when in half-darkness? You said it is OP but i planing to run one playtrough in Honor + lots of added enemy dificulty mods and most faithful to 5E as possible. It would be great if you could! thanks a lot.
While I agree that Gloom Stalker took a nerf. It was also given other really good stuff that made it just as good as the original.
First, it gets to hide as bonus action. No dark area required. This translates to pretty much guaranteed advantage on attack roll in most fights, regardless of light source or dark areas.
Second, and even more importantly, it gets the misty step spells. One of the best spells and bonus action you could possibly get as a class features.
Yup. Umbral Shroud is basically your DPS increase in 5e due to advantage (plus defensive stuff since enemies can't see you) to secure your first turn NOVA (Gloom Stalker 5/3 Battle Master, Action Surge + Precision Strike) with two extra attacks you get.
In BG3 they nerfed/eliminated that synergy, hence why I tried to make Umbral to do what it's main purpouse is in 5e, which is turn 1/2 burst and why I also made second mod with Action Surge giving back Dread Ambusher extra attack again. Plus you have mod from someone else that makes Precision Strike only activating on miss as promp up (like reaction) instead of active ability as it's also how it suppose to work in 5e.
A lot of Larian homebrews in this game are really baffling. Like nerfing Gloom Stalker only for full casters to get to DC 25+ in Act 3 and win all fights with single spells.
It was either rush to release, lack of 5e understanding or just incompetence in most cases. I love the game, but their homebrews are questionable at least in many, many cases. Some (like range nerf to ranged weapons) are understandable, some (like Gloom, Precision Strike, Jumping, magic items etc.) I can't just wrap my head around it.
Absolutely. Nerfing this ability was absurd considering the sort of homebrew madness Larian gave other classes. Especially considering that itemization in this game is so strong. Some dude on their team probably went on a D&D build forum or subreddit and got obsessed with "Omagad Gloomstalker OP".
Thank you for fixing one of the most angering issue I've had in this game since day ONE. The 2 turns version works perfectly for me.
For balance purposes, I try to roleplay it as something that my character uses in "actual" dark places (because Larian really messed up the implementation of the lighting...)
There's one thing though : it doesn't seem to work properly with Elven Accuracy from FeatsExtra (a classic tabletop combo !). https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/167?tab=posts&BH=0 Now I'm not sure if invisibilty in general doesn't work with Eleven Acc or if it's just your mod... Will do some testing.
EDIT : Nope, it's their mod. Doesn't work with invis potion either.
So, i'm having a problem with the Dread Ambusher extra attack, it just don't trigger, at the start of the fight i don't get the extra atack, the dread ambusher feature is just named as "not found" (i'm using vortex), so am i doing something wrong?
Unfortunately this doesnt work with the vfx replacer. Not sure if it is somehting that can be made compatable or not. https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/740?tab=description
I was looking for something like this. Gloom stalker was my first option for the game's release and once I got to level 3 and seen what they did to the subclass I respecced immediately.
The only problem I still have, and that's a problem with the game and not the mod, is that is really hard to see what areas are lit. It's still too easy to waste the invisibility by just approching a lit area, unfortunately.

Misty step is alright at best, you shouldn't have to use it if you are postitioning well, bg3 only nerfed gloomstalker
