Check out the videos on my youtube for a visual rundown of the changes. Might spoil some surprises.
I've spent 145 hours in the toolkit and I'm starting to get a feel for it. Not sure If I'll make more but its kinda fun.
I haven't tried to uninstall mid-playthrough - I recommend testing it on a new file and seeing if you like it.
There are a lot of spells and items. I tried to mark what is permanent boost vs temporary. Hopefully I coded it all right.
If you use all the items at once you will get spell overlap as I tried to put in a bunch of variations so you can roleplay the character as you like. If you get spell overlap you can just drag it out of your hotbar and keep the version you prefer. Two sets of the spells have a convenient container and consolidated version - Tidal Powers and the KuoToa summon set. If you find your hotbar overloaded you can get the container spell consolidated versions from the Sea Chest. Most all the spells are attached in some way to an item or on scrolls hidden about in wet locations. Hopefully there wont be a lot of overlap.
If you use all the things from level one it will be grossly overpowered. I didn't spend Big Brain time trying to make it balanced because...hard.
All items in Tutorial Chest, Camp Chest, and immersive in treasure tables in select locations (additive, should not replace existing items)
This update includes:
Many Tooltip spelling fixes and cleanup (i know there are more, the Toolkit interface is not easy y'all)
Added custom containers in Sea Chest for
Armor/Wearables, Tridents, Scrolls, Summoning Items, Magic or Permaboost items, Food, and Musical instruments
Improved VFX for Summoning sea critters (more thematic)
More Fish camp supplies because
Many more themed tweaked vanilla spells including Coral Growth and Tidal Step (misty step to water surfaces 24m distance))
Custom container for tweaked Create/Destroy water cantrip duo with Tidal Step and custom version of Water Whip
Added weapons (tridents of all kinds) with tweaked spellset and passives (not necessarily balanced) and proficiency on equip
Added Wavemother/umberlee gear with custom spells (does not replace vanilla gear)
Added rings and amulet, gloves and boots, gloves, robe and cloak
Summon FLUMPHS! (wildmagic explosive flumph bomb and alluring replacement for Minor Illusion+ duration)
Sea Origins in a Bottle: Oceanic character traits in a bottle! Make Sea Elf a reality without a custom race! Drink the potion to permanently gain proficiencies, spells, and traits. Will not change race designation. Can be used with any race to give them roleplay "Sea" themed traits and abilities
More options for Summoning Sahuagins and Crabs, spells or reusable scroll items (permanent learn spell or just use spell from item)
and!
5 tiered Kuo-Toa summons with immersive acquisition or a handy Tutorial chest spell container, with a musical twist!!! This worked surprisingly well.
Pearls of Wisdom, with immersive acquisition
Godly interventions! Totems, permablessings, idols, oh my! With immersive acquisition - explore the corners in wet places to discover
Added nonconsumable spell scrolls for every custom spell - use or learn, test and if you like the spell but don't want to commit or aren't a wiz the scrolls are infinitely reusable. just leave the scroll in your hotbar and cast like a cantrip.
Handmade Custom icons for all custom spells and items - some of the icons could be better but hey, I'm self-taught?
Many items function as Camp decorations!
If you have any fun ideas for tweaked sea-themed stuff let me know!
If you find the modded items in weird places, or duplicative things, let me know. The treasure tables in the toolkit are often vague and sometimes locations are copied and its not documented clearly.
_________VERSION 1.0.0.17
HOW TO INSTALL:
To use the mod download manually or with Vortex. I use Vortex to manage and update files and LaughingLeader's BG3MM (mod manager) for load order. I am not super great with computer-programmy stuff generally so I'm not a person to ask for mod install help, etc.
Load order shouldn't be important since it was made with the Toolkit and has no dependencies, but make sure the file version shown in BG3 Mod Manger is 1.0.0.17. I accidentally uploaded a 1.0.0.5 version (displaying as 1.0.0.13) which was crashing with sounding the horn for the Sahuagin summon. Thanks to @LaughingLeader's help i think i found the issue and my in-game mod test worked all the way! Yay! Some animation stuttering because the critters aren't supposed to cast some things. But I'll work on that when I understand it better.
I used some vanilla statuses: Cat's Grace, Bull's Strength, Prone, Wet, Chilled, Crab-Pinched, Greater-Invisible, and some vanilla spells, maiming pinch, razor claws, the sahuagin-specific spellset. Any mod that changes those vanilla spells or status should be loaded before this mod (I think).
This is a fun little add-on for anyone with an Oceanic or Aquatic roleplay character.
Find a Sea Chest inside the Tutorial Chest (and Camp Chest) with seafood and reusable gifts from the Sea!
Use the spells with the reusable summoning items: a water bottle, hermit crab, or shell, in tiered rarity. You don't have to learn the spell or save it for a one-time use. Just keep in in the hotbar if you want to cast it and ditch the item if you don't like it. No spell-slot use, no caster ability checks.
Crabulously custom spells and cantrips:
Aquatic Camouflage a Cantrip in a Jar of Tentacles (reusable spell scroll/item)
A custom Crabulous cantrip that allows you to Mimic the Aquatic Camouflage of the Octopus and grant a creature Greater Invisibility for 20 turns. Attacks against it have Disadvantage. It attacks with Advantage. It requires concentration but can be cast once per turn on self or allies (maybe enemies - I didn't test this).
It's OP for vanilla BUT its fun and thematic and who cares.
High Tide a Cantrip in a Water Jar (reusable spell scroll/item)
Call the Tide and drench your target and a 3m radius, making them Wet for 3 turns. The Tide douses flames and forms a water surface. (i.e. Create Water ritual form in an eternally full bottle)
Surf's Up a Cantrip in a Water Jar (reusable spell scroll/item)
Call a Big Wave to possibly knock target Prone and deal 2 Bludgeoning damage. Drench your target and a 4m radius, making them Wet for 3 turns. The Wave douses flames and forms a water surface. (i.e. SALTY Create Water ritual form in an eternally full bottle)
Freezing Pinch a Crab spell for Crabs
Attack a creature's feet and inflict Crab Pinched for 3 turns (1 slashing, 1d4 piercing) and dealing 1d4 cold damage, Chilling it and rendering it Vulnerable to Cold damage for two turns.
Ray of Frost for Crabs, plus pinching
Summon Crustaceans
The mod offers 3 tiers of Crustacean Summoning, based loosely on the Crab familiar and the Redcap's unique crab spell.
These cantrips can stack so you can theoretically call 3 crabs every turn for a maximum of 30 scuttling crabs of the same type.
Cast of Crustaceans a Cantrip in a Hermit Crab (reusable spell scroll/item)
Summon 3 White Crabs infused with the watery powers of the Tidal Pools they call home. The Crabs can maim enemies with Crippling Pinch. They can use High Tide to create a 9m water surface. They are permanently Wet and can survive 10 turns. They create a water surface on death. They have low HP.
Cast of Tidal Crabs
Summon 3 armored White Hermit Crabs infused with the watery powers of the Tidal Pools they call home. They have a Reflective Shell protecting them from projectiles. They can use High Tide to create a 9m water surface. The Crabs can maim enemies with Crippling Pinch. They are permanently Wet and can survive 10 turns. They create a water surface on death. They have medium HP.
Cast of Deep Crabs a Cantrip in a Hermit Crab (reusable spell scroll/item)
Summon 3 armored White GIANT Hermit Crabs infused with the watery powers of the Deep Fissures they call home. They have a Reflective Shell protecting them from projectiles. They can use High Tide to create a 9m water surface. The Crabs can maim enemies with Crippling Pinch and chill them with Freezing Pinch. They are permanently Wet and can survive 10 turns. They create an ice surface on death. They have higher HP.
Summon Bim, Zim, or Chim the Sahuagin!
Blow into the Shellphone to summon the Sahuagin of your choice.
The Sahuagins stack so each character can summon only one type at a time. Access to all three Shellphones, and therefore all three summons, is available from the start. I differentiated them with HP, and other stats, weapons, and abilities. It's up to you to pick what you use and when and how and you can set any self-limitations you like for roleplay. Generally I like to think of them as Act 1, 2 and 3, but no one will know if you summon Chim in Act 1. And I won't judge you. 😁
ALSO, please note Sahuagins do not have SNEAK animations because in vanilla they never need to. In game these Summons just freeze and hover like they're riding Roombas. My solution is the Aquatic Camouflage.
Summon Bim the Sahuagin Warrior Blow the Red Shellphone (RARE reusable spell scroll/item)
Bim the Red Sahuagin Warrior is equipped with a spear and can enter a Sahuagin Blood Frenzy. The Warrior can cast Surf's Up to drench your foes and possibly knock them Prone and do bludgeoning damage. They can call a Cast of Crustaceans to pinch your enemies' toes. They can also grant a creature the Aquatic Camouflage of the Octopus for 20 turns. They are permanently Wet. They create a water surface on death.
Summon Zim the Sahuagin Ranger Blow the Blue Shellphone (VERY RARE reusable spell scroll/item)
Zim the Blue Sahuagin Ranger has Catfish's Grace and is equipped with a longbow and can attack with Claws and enter a Sahuagin Blood Frenzy. They can ensnare foes with a Net. The Warrior can cast Surf's Up to drench your foes and possibly knock them Prone and do bludgeoning damage. They can call a Cast of Tidal Crabs to pinch your enemies' toes. They can also grant a creature the Aquatic Camouflage of the Octopus for 20 turns. They are permanently Wet. They create water vapor on death.
Summon Chim the Sahuagin Champion Blow the Purple Shellphone (Legendary reusable spell scroll/item)
Chim the Blue Sahuagin Ranger has Catfish's Grace and Bullshark's Strength and is equipped with a spear and can MULTIattack with Claws and enter a Sahuagin Blood Frenzy. They can ensnare foes with a Net. The Champion can cast Surf's Up to drench your foes and possibly knock them Prone and do bludgeoning damage. They can call a Cast of Deep Crabs to pinch your enemies' toes with frost. They can also grant a creature the Aquatic Camouflage of the Octopus for 20 turns. They are permanently Wet. They create a growing puddle of Black Tentacles on death.
This mod uses all in-game assets but duplicated and individuated stats and items (apart from vanilla fish and mermaid whiskey).
If you don't like the mod you can put the items back in the tutorial chest and de/respawn it if you use a tutorial chest summoning mod. I haven't done testing on uninstalling or installing mid-playthrough.
I tested this a lot in Toolkit but some buggy things sometimes happen with Toolkit so if something is missing or wonky or misspelled please let me know. I may not be competent enough to fix it.
I did not try to make this lore adherent; I looked up some wiki entries but that's about it. Also, it's not bio-realistic or balanced because my brain ain't that good. BG3 is my first DnD adventure so I know nothing, overall. It's just something I made for myself to learn basic modding and spice up a Sea Elf run for my 20 millionth playthrough. Future goals are trying to add some gear and some polymorph or wildshape stuff like Myrmidon and Water Elemental and the trident and scimitar and wave mother set etc.
My modding and computer skills are very basic (I had to buy and learn how to use a Windows computer to do this) so if you have a problem with the mod, I'm not sure how much help I will be but I will try!
Its made for Patch 7 on the Toolkit. I will try to get it on console.
Made the spell icons and the infographics myself by hand in Adobe Illustrator and I am very proud of me. I do not know how to use HTML or fancy color things so sorry this description is so white.
