Speaking strictly tabletop: Goodberry is a godsend so the party doesn't have to spend excessively on rations or sacrifice the passage of time to forage--hunt, dress, and butcher even-- in the field. Players could be studying a useful feature to eventually be rewarded it for free or just helping the crafters make scrolls and pots, and in turn share knowledge/proficiency.
BG3's implementation was wack, the spell never ever justified an L1 slot. I don't care much for the increased healing die, I'm just grateful for the camp supply change. Now I can stop hoarding sketchy food and alcohol in camp. You have done blessed work, much appreciated!
