Just discovered this mod and i'm very impressed! It's awesome you've added a balanced and lore friendly weapon to the game so very well done!
I have one request if you ever get the time but if not no worries! Would it be possible in future to make a greatsword variant of the weapon and possibly add a unique special Lava themed attack to the weapon which requires a long or short rest to use again?
Appreciate the mod and hope you continue to make more in future!
I'm really glad you like it! I'm happy to tell you that it is in fact versatile, you can definitely use it as a 2 hander! You're also not the first to ask for a lava themed skill, and so I suppose I may as well give the people what they want... look for an update soon!
I found this and Foebane today. Unfortunately, i am into Act 3 and unable to go back for them. Any consideration for putting it/them into the summoned tutorial chest?
Well im happy to hear they caught your interest, and i might be interested in comissioned work if the project is within the scope of what i can do. Truth be told I'd prefer not to add to the tut chest, only because I went through great pains to place them rather theatrically at a time when placing items in world was very difficult. (to this day you have to use a modded toolkit to do this). However, I AM happy to provide UUID numbers to let you spawn them.
totally appreciate and respect your want of preserving the theme and lore for the weapons by keeping them from the tutorial chest. I'll message your pvt about the commission.
Nice mod, but I would make the flavor text a lot shorter. As it is, the entire description cannot fit in the screen at once and when I hover over the item, it's going off the bottom of the page.
The description of the item could be about half as long and it would fit, honestly it doesn't need to be so long and it would be more impactful is it were just the best one or two sentences instead of being like an entire paragraph about how the weapon is hard to hold and all of that, no offense. Less is more.
Otherwise, I am a fan. This is a slight upgrade to the Everburn blade and a good replacement moving into Act II, it just needs a shorter description to fit within the UI and be more aligned with the other weapons in the game.
I would agree that all my item descriptions run overly long. There is a method to the madness though. They're direct copy/paste from the original item in bg1/2. It's meant to be a little bit of an easter egg for fans of the original games.
Thanks, I hope ya like it, it was a great idea to make an adjustment and I owe that to you! It's not EXACTLY how we discussed but I had to tweak the balance because the lava crit is super powerful.
Would you consider making +1/+2 enchantment versions? As there is no greatsword with +3 enchantment until act3 and not even a 2h weapon (glaive, halberd included.) with +2 enchantment until the mid of act 2.
In trying to stay thematic, balanced, and interesting, here's where I'm at right now with your request (which will likely become the new default main, I like it a lot) You will aquire a fire myrmidon heart and an earth myrmidon heart from the fight in Razamiths tower, and they will combine with the sword to make the legendary +3 version. That version of the sword will add- Volcanic Critical- on a critical, create a lava surface underneath you Lava Elemental Regeneration- when you start your turn on a lava surface regain 1d8 hp Immunity to Lava surface- still looking at the details here. Considering making all abilities toggle with the fire effects. I can definitely see situations where on might not wish to create a pool of Lava.
2H wise, there is only two weapon in ACT3 worth using: Nyrulna and Balduran's. Both not only just powerful but has powerful abilites aswell. So in order to this make comperable to them, -if thats what you want ofc- I would also add 'critical hit threshold reduction' effect while on lava alongside Volcanic Critical to make the ability not depend solely on crit gear build (risky ring etc.). Also consider adding a ability like ''Create Lava'' (Lava Elemental spell) as a bonus action to make it more unique. I wrote all this considering previous buffs does not transfer to upgraded form.
Well I think that's going to be taking it too far and I'll tell you why. The first thing is that you have to remember this can be one-handed dual wielded sword and board Etc it's a versatile weapon. So that would already be getting pretty darn strong for a versatile weapon. But then we have the matter of the lava pool itself. I wasn't sure what the numbers were but I got a prototype of the mod done last night and lava does a ton of damage. It's basically a fireball that goes off when you crit and then stays there and keeps being a fireball every turn until it goes away and it's difficult terrain so it's hard to escape. Add to that fact that whatever enemy has to endure this punishment also just took a critical hit and the fire and burning damage from the original abilities that are still on the sword and it's way too powerful in order to make this work I already have to create a new Surface type to tone down the damage
I'm going to check this in about an hour. If you're right, this means toolkit changes where the base stat belongs when you mark a weapon versatile, and i will have to fix my other mod as well. That would be a good catch, thank you.

The other possibility would be that the tooltip switches the damage dice around when you’re wielding the weapon with 2h and then look at the tooltip. Never thought about that until now, so … no idea, and I can’t check myself at the moment :)
Oh, also while I’m already here: I’d say the idea of a “Bastard Sword” from earlier editions has basically been rolled into the Longsword. Longsword used to be strictly 1h and the Bastard Sword was “versatile” even though it wasn’t called that. So I guess there’s an argument to just make this a Flame-Tongue Longsword if you want to port it to BG3.
Sort of. The versatility was rolled into longswords but not the fun of One handing a large blade. Which I guess could be different for everybody but for me that's the fun part of it.

On a similar note, do you do commissioned work?
Cheers!
