I've been loosely trying to get into the modding scene recently and this tutorial was what really pushed me to try and make something. I have had a hard time finding well-made guides anywhere when it comes to texture editing and stuff so thank you for the in depth tutorial! I'm very much a beginner who knows very little about anything but was still able to figure it out without too much struggle. Keep up the great work! ;D
Привет. Неплохой гайд и думаю сделать свой Тав по нему, но возник вопрос - есть ли возможность сделать уникальный Тав? В гайде используется готовый и он для эльфа, а у меня тифлинг, что вызывает вопросы
I hope my translation tools translated the question properly but yeah you can use this for Tieflings! You can just grab the Tiefling NM from the base game instead! Depending on what body type your Tav is the filename changes slightly. For body type 1 you'll want TIF_F_NKD_Body_A_NM.DDS. Body type 2 is TIF_M_NKD_Body_A_NM.DDS, body type 3 is TIF_FS_NKD_Body_A_NM.DDS and body type 4 is TIF_MS_NKD_Body_A_NM.DDS
The guide just uses the Elf one as an example but you can grab whatever file you'd like :D
Thank you! I tried it and I only had 1 problem and I don't understand how to solve it - the scars are visible, but they start to behave differently depending on the lighting. It should be dark, but sometimes it becomes snow-white
I took a look and honestly I'm not quite sure what may be doing it. Could you send a screenshot of the RGB and Alpha layers of your custom Normal Map? Maybe I can help :)
https://radikal.host/i/g5lfcr https://radikal.host/i/g5llyo I tried changing the color, transparency, location, tried touching other files. Maybe the problem is that it makes the scar area transparent?
It looks to me like the issue might have to do with the alpha layer if anything. Would you mind showing me a picture of just that? And when you compose the image in GIMP, did you put it in the correct layer? :)
Alrighty I looked at your alpha map and I think the main issue is that the scars are too dark. You want them to match the colors of the alpha layer a bit closer because the Alpha is what seems to make it so reflective.
Try making the scars lighter and see if that helps :D
Looking at your scars again on the Alpha layer you sent me and noticing they appear to be a solid color. It might help to look at the references provided in the guide on how to format the scars there. Not sure if that will fix it but on page 14 of the guide (just before the "Merging the scars with the layers and exporting them" part) you can see an example of an alpha layer. There are some slightly lighter edges surrounding the scar, which is what gives it the depth perception. Perhaps this might be a solution?
Let me know if not! Feel free to also reach out on discord (same username) if that's easier btw :D
I've been thinking about how I wanted to make a custom scar map but I hadn't gotten around to actually looking for tutorials, so this showing up on the recent mods page is great timing! Will report back 🫡

I am inexperienced and I feel like I am working blind in photoshop XD

Well, I'm starting to think maybe it's because I originally did it in SAI and they have different export settings.
