This is exactly the kind of mod I was looking for for my duelist build! Just one question though. Is this fighting style available for College of Swords bards? Nevermind! Answered my own question by actually reading! Very cool mod!
Some quirks but not game-breaking: - The first time you equip a compatipe weapon for this, it doesn't apply the to-hit bonus, but it does if you re-equip it. - The +1 to-hit bonus sticks around when you equip a non-compatible weapon, until you re-equip that non-compatible weapon. - The additional movement and the +1 boost to AC sticks if you unequip a compatible weapon, but goes away if you equip a non-compatible weapon.
For those of us that simply use a compatible weapon all the time, just make sure you re-equip it to get everything working as it should.
I absolutely love combinging this mod with the Versatile Fighting fighting style from More Fighting Styles.
This looks absolutely lovely, thanks for the contribution! As a big rogue duelist enjoyer I am now even more tempted by the warrior multiclass... If only this was a feat instead of a fighting style :P If you were to want / find the time to adapt it as a feat, giving +1 to Dex or Strength as well as the other bonuses I would be over the moon. Thanks either way!
Hey Boss... just want to add to Cam's question with some dumb stuff I like.... Will this feat work with a Monks unarmed strikes? or only something that has the tag "finesse"?.... and as I do not use a weapon.... is having both hands doing monkifications on enemies count as dual wielding? using this anyways.... cause I can always roll a rogue inquisitor/knowledge cleric
This is cool but I think it needs a buff. Here's how I see it:
Average damage was calculated assuming you have +3 in your damage dealing modifier.
If you go Great Weapon Fighting then you're likely to take the Great Weapon Master Feat. That's 20 average damage. If you crit or kill your target then you get to attack again as well, raising the damage even higher.
If you go Two Weapon Fighting then you're likely to take the Dual Wielder Feat. That's 15 average damage w/ +1 AC. Even going Two Weapon Fighting without taking the Dual Wielder Feat is 13 average damage.
If you go Fencing (This style) then there's not really a feat to take which enhances the damage of it. Which means it has 8.5 average damage w/ +1 AC. That's just worse in every way. Plus you can't wear heavy armor to have access to this style which hurts it even more.
Taking the Dueling style and using a shield is statistically better. Sure Fencing gives some movement, but damage > movement unless it's a very dramatic increase.
I like this idea a lot, but this needs to be buffed so it's not so overshadowed.
hey man o/ , appreciate your comments and that you have taken the time to actually do the math, that said this mod is geared towards RP not min-maxing, that way i just wanted to make so that fighting one handed does actually provide something in return and is not a COMPLETE waste mechanically, but at the same time i'm trying to not make it overpowered, that's why i came up with this numbers and, to be honest, this game is quite easy as it is so i'll probably won't change the numbers because i'm still finishing my first run :)
It's spelled "Melee" and you need to be more clear when you release stuff. Adds an attack roll in what way? As advantage? As a reroll? As an extra attack?
hello buddy, so yeap, let me try to explain you like you're five old years old :) (by reading your text i feel you need this kind of stuff) : 1 - the extra point you got is a rollbonus, represented in the game like a little advantage on attack rolls that Mr Gamey gives you, just like a proficiency gives you 2 points or a +2 strength also gives you a point, works only for meeeeeeeele weapon atacks simple as that 2 - your friend here is not a native speaker, and also don't care at all about spelling issues (how do correctly spell is it "xove it" ? ) 3 - i don't NEED to do anything buddy, if you want a clearer explanation i'm all up fot it (as i'm doing now) but don't feel entitled, if anything is NEEDED at all is people being educated and reasonable to each other
Wow, could you be more of an asshole? When you grow up you need to be more respectful instead of demeaning to people, especially to those in the service industry. Show some respect especially to those who are volunteering their time and skills. It hardly takes any effort to try something like this out to test your concerns.
Sorry dude, some kids get on here and think they are entitled to treating people like dirt. They're the type of people who will yell as service employees for forgetting their ketchup. Thanks for the mod, it's something I really wanted for so long. A+++
Slightly confused. You say there isn't an advantage to wielding finesse weapons one handed? That's untrue. The Duelist fighting style is built around one-handed weapon use, the defensive duelist feat specifies a one-handed finesse weapon. That's already a +2 to damage and an AC boost.
Additionally, the swashbuckler subclass for rogues is available for download on Nexus, which is built around one-handed finesse weapons.
They are saying that the Dueling Fighting Style doesn't encourage having a free hand. It works with a shield, so if you are holding just a one-handed sword and no shield... you are just losing 2 AC compared to anyone else with any sense using the same style. Likewise, the Feat Defensive Duelist works if you are holding a shield too, so if you choose not to you just feel like you are missing some synergy.
They wanted a fighting style for having specifically a one-handed weapon and an unoccupied hand so that they dont have to see their character using a shield but aren't missing out on all of the protection or utility of the other fighting styles.
I don't think I realized that defensive duelist can be used with a shield.... I knew the fighting style could. I appreciate the clarification, thank you.
Mariner improves your mobility as long as you aren't wearing heavy armor or using a shield. Your movement speed increases by 3 meters, your jump distance increases by 50%, and your AC increases by 1.
thats true! i used to have that one installed, and they don't work in conjunction BTW as we both have to edit the same file (list of fighting styles that are enabled to each class) if you are uncertain you should choose the https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/858, its a better mod, it has many other options available in a single mod, this one is just a niche thing i'm using in my playthrough and decided to share if interests anyone else, but i'll not be expanding on this (like including requests or other fighting styles in this mod)
wait, why would a swashbuckler not use a shield? using a shield is like the defining part of swashbuckling. and isn't dueling already a swashbuckling fighting style, thematically?
cool mod, and more power to you if you have something against shields but want to get some AC bonus, I just thought "swashbuckler" was kind of a funny name for a fighting style that isn't even allowed to use a buckler :P
(PS: I'm glad I read the other comments before asking what "+1 melee attack rolls" meant, sorry the last person who commented on it was rude, but it is very confusing wording <3)

Just one question though. Is this fighting style available for College of Swords bards?Nevermind! Answered my own question by actually reading! Very cool mod!Seems to work with patch 7 and the hotfixes, and with More Fighting Styles - Patch 7 at Baldur's Gate 3 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com). No offense to Additional Fighting Styles at Baldur's Gate 3 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com), but I felt for my current playthrough that I don't need it, but I was fond of Mariner - I'm more fond of this mod, though! I'm still using the optional +1 Fighting Initiate feat from that mod without issues.
Load order didn't seem to matter with these 3 mods.

to quote their mod:
<node id="PassiveList"> Bard
<attribute id="Passives" type="LSString" value="FightingStyle_Swashbuckling,FightingStyle_Dueling,FightingStyle_TwoWeaponFighting"/>
<attribute id="UUID" type="guid" value="11f3b209-eb13-42d2-9fec-46dfc68fe619"/>
</node>
if you want to add support for sword bards (who should totally have access to this), just add to your code. Up to you, i already hacked my version :).
